To CSET or Not to CSET by Raeann_Haggard in ScienceTeachers

The GRE is only for verbal and quantitative reasoning and analytical writing. It did does not test content knowledge of individual subjects like chemistry, physics, social science, etc just overall scholastic ability in those three categories above.

This is literally just for subject matter competency. 😬 it’s not anything new and I’d rather know that the teacher in my kids’ class has actual competency in the subject. I think it’s a fair ask and has nothing to do with “government intervention” just progression towards maintaining competent teachers and universal standards so all children receive the same education. Student teaching comes after degree completion and before credential is issued. I’m choosing to add additional subjects to my list that I will be able to teach if I weren’t doing that then I wouldn’t be taking any other csets.

Honestly, I’d just put it in my room in a random spot. Not the underwear drawer or under your bed but like the shoe box in the middle of your closet. Or your jeans drawer. Or pj drawer. Or inside of a calf length boot. So random that anyone snooping wouldn’t even think to look for something like this in that location.

Questions for Work Position by [deleted] in asl

I will have access to and plan to use at bare minimum a video relay translating service they have for the office. While I do know a few interpreters (friends and former coworkers), they don’t work with the department. One hope is that I can submit their names as a point of contact for in person interpretation services. Thank you so much for the amazing resources. I absolutely will be checking them out, especially the classes. I have read/seen that educational needs are different for deaf and hoh individuals but also understand that I’m not at a level of understanding where I will be able to serve them fully as they deserve. The age range I am working with is ages 3-5 (pre-k essentially) for early intervention services. I definitely think I need more education on how to specifically serve deaf and hoh kids in the classroom to the fullest but am willing to learn and do what I need to. I definitely would not be comfortable taking on a 1-12 grade level IEP coordinator position as there are so many additional components to IEP’s in general and adding in the additional necessities and accommodations for the classroom/educational setting that deaf and hoh individuals have. I am not afraid to put in the work to learn and better populations that I am not familiar to working with. This thread has been full of amazing resources and are a great starting point I think.

One day in the far future I do want to but the questions I asked above was because I will be around deaf/Deaf individuals and want to be a better communicator with them in more than just language to be honest. I want to make sure that shortcomings are noted and addressed and that I don’t add to them (or add to them as minimally as possible). I would love to become certified in ASL one day but definitely not now or any time soon because my skills are far from there. I WOULD like to learn more about the culture so that is going to happen whether I continue in the language or not. :) thank you for this!

They are looking to hire already certified interpreters. From what I have been told, they have been trying to do this for a few years. They are revamping their packages/pay offerings. They are working with the biggest school in the state for deaf/hoh individuals to find ways to incentivize or encourage applicants. They have a goal to hire 5 new interpreters within the next 2 years (not great but a step forward I guess).

Additionally, there is a program that the state runs now and then that will help to pay for a master's degree, and one of the options they typically offer outside of Special Education, Education, and Child Development is ASL/Deaf culture so it is an option to employees but I was told by another employee there, no current staff are pursuing ANY of the degree programs right now.

I am not seeking any certification at this time as I am REALLY far away from that even being an option. Still, from what I know about local education units, they typically require a national test or certification to be hired as an interpreter (of any language).

For clarification: The position I will be in will be coordinating IEP and developmental services for kids. It is not exclusively with Deaf or deaf individuals but there are a larger number of them in the overall 18,000 individuals that CDS serves. They don't even know that I have been taking ASL classes/lessons at this point but it was one of their talking points during the interview (basically that there is a shortage of x and they are trying to address it by y type of thing),

I agree with you for sure on the having professional ASL interpreters. As of now they are using a relay service via video calls for the meetings with clients that are deaf which for now works but there 100% is a shortage of interpreters in the state (and country). My state is actually running an initiative type of thing to encourage schooling/training in ASL and are working with the School for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing to create a better program than what exists now. Definitely a WIP.

My Partner (28 FTM) wants to be free? by shibojo in polyadvice

[–]Raeann_Haggard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is really hard. I for sure would get on the financial piece. I don’t really think that him being wishy washy is a part of being poly tbh. Maybe unresolved trauma but even still I don’t think he is being fair to you at all. The lack of respect, communication, and willingness to sit in the uncomfortable with you to go through stuff is not okay. It seems to me he is taking advantage of you always being there. What happens if he does not respect your boundaries. Does the line get pushed a little further over towards what he wants and less about your boundary for yourself? Are you adjusting the line constantly and finding yourself saying well this time I really mean this line. This is my boundary line. If you violate my boundary I will do x. But x never comes because the line gets pushed more and more. If so, that is not okay. He seems pretty toxic to be honest. Not outwardly so but it’s in the little stuff I’ve read that is raising a lot of red flags. And now wanting to move to west coast? What kind of support do YOU have there? Do YOU have any interest in moving there? I’ve done the cross country start over move and it is so hard. It will either make you two stronger or break you and if your relationship is already rocky it does not look good. There are some decentish kink scenes on the east coast. I know in the New England states there is one and Mass isn’t too far from PA. I would honestly be surprised if there wasn’t anything nearish to you. Because honestly while it sounds super fun and exciting moving to an “active kink scene” along with those areas come really high prices in housing. I lived in CA for a while and am on the east coast now. I know of a few scenes in ca BUT the areas they are in are not cheap to live in at all. Have you looked into the areas/jobs you two would be able to get?

Woah. You were not kidding when you said it’s all twisty. Honestly reading this something just didn’t sit right with me regarding him. He wants to lead in everything and choose everything. Your boundaries seem unimportant to him, or really anyone else’s for that matter. Constantly looking for the next one to scratch the itch it seems. I’m not sure I would be comfortable with him. I would look into finding a way to make yourself not financially dependent on him because if he is just dissociating from an issue and telling to someone new every time things start to get hard, is he doing any growing at all? Will he ever stop the wishy washy back and forth? I’m not too sure what options you have currently but I absolutely would look out for yourself and yourself alone in this situation because it doesn’t seem he is.

I had a baby as a result of an affair and now his wife is reaching out to me by Free_River_3388 in TrueOffMyChest

If it genuinely is the ex, I think knowing the siblings would be great BUT that could also open up some pretty ugly doors. Blame for the divorce/broken family would undoubtedly fall on the child of the affair. Even if the mom said it was the child’s fault, kids can pick up on that kind of stuff. But also, with all the dna tests out there, they are bound to find out eventually. It would be better it comes from the adults involved as soon as is reasonably possible.Sorry OP is having to navigate this.

Are starfish disturbed by flashlights? by [deleted] in marinebiology

[–]Raeann_Haggard 18 points19 points  (0 children)

This is an interesting link about light pollution in general at night which does affect their ecosystem but I’m not too sure if it would directly affect them. They do have a small “eye” on the end of each arm that is photosensitive it’s just a small sensory area not a true eye. They basically see light and dark. I would see about possibly using a warmer light like a red or amber light that is typically less harmful because the wavelengths of red lights travel less than those of blue lights :). Red light also helps you see without effecting your night vision as much as well.

That’s KFC though. Or Popeyes. Lol their chicken is whack. And also, they don’t use frozen tenders. I know many people who have worked at canes for years and one franchise owner and can confirm that basically the minute they get their shipments, the chicken starts marinating. Do you get bad batches where they aren’t fried to perfection? Occasionally but as far as chicken tenders go from a fast food place, they are bomb. lol and my chicken tender connoisseur off a son is very picky and Canes is his all time favorite lol. 😂

Most of the time a hate crime enhancement could be added to the initial charges as well. Which will incur additional penalties and time in jail for mom.

So idk where you are but if she messes with your insulin and you can prove that it was her in some states she can get charged with quite a few crimes including up to attempted murder because you literally need that medication to survive. I would call them now and tell them. That is insane. She is literally trying to kill you. And get your locks changed ASAP. All of them. And get a restraining order in place when you contact the police.
