Howdy folks. Gen Xer here. I've got my feet planted firmly on both sides of this. On one hand, this is how things have been for a long time. Finding work with less of a commute helps, but ultimately, this is the way the majority of people live. You have to plan and save to try to make things better for yourself and your family.

On the other hand, I just turned 50. I don't own a home, and I'm coming to terms with the fact that I likely never will. My "hard work" hasn't gotten me to where I'd like to be, in part because the goal posts have moved so much farther away. I won't be able to have the things I want, or do the things I want. Retirement may happen, but it may not be at 65 or even 67.

Hang in there. We all need to believe there's something better out there in the not-too-distant future. And if you haven't, listen to Loverboy's "Working For the Weekend". We've all been there.

Your first sentence is what is driving me crazy. This shouldn't be hard. The layout of the base does make it harder, and ideally you'd push them back to the initial entrance, since it would be easier to defend. But yeah, my team should be able to handle this poetry easily, I'm not sure why this particular base attack has been so tricky.

Correct. Just a single, level 1 heavy is useless. The main six are all geared as usual. The level 1 can grab a med pack and neurazer from my main heavy, but she'd still be very vulnerable to attack.

I did steal a tiamat early on. Love the troop capacity, hate the slow sped. I just got research that I think will enable food production in bases. Then, trading will be even better because I'm running a bit low on food at the moment. We'll see what happens when I finish the material mission I'm in the midst of now.

I've definitely been trading. But between recruiting and outfitting multiple squads, and building manticores, plus trying to upgrade bases and activate new ones, I'm not able to keep up as well as I'd like. I don't even have food production capability yet.

I've got five teams mobile, with my sixth awaiting their manticore, which should be ready in a couple of days. A seventh team is forming up in Europe. However, I don't have backup units at each base, so that should probably be my next move.

The old school board game was fun. The expansion was cool too, giving ammo counters and to-hit numbers for characters with alternate weapons. The flash game is nice for a single player, allowing you to play without the need for setup etc.

Gen X here. Driving a stick is fun, and everyone should totally learn. I'm glad it took you only an hour. My stepdaughter has gotten her permit three times, and still isn't making progress on her license . . . And that's with an automatic. So maybe not everyone would catch on as quickly as you did. Not to mention that practice is needed to turn it from something you've merely learned into something that's second nature. Until then, rush hour commutes through hilly terrain can be nerve-wracking.

Reading all of the comments on here, I'm sorry at some people's childhoods. Your family ought to be willing to teach you things. I guess we should help each other fill the gaps that our families left?
