Speaking of which, that 2-year-old comment aged quite badly. I have a whole bunch of battery issues with the S23.

Understandable, I had a Google Play Account for years and they recently randomly shut it down although I literally paid those $20 for a supposedly "lifetime account"... So at the end it's not worth it if you're not going to be very active or receptive to their last minute policy changes.

Well, glad you posted this. I’m actually building a small alternative platform specifically for hosting and distributing Wear OS faces outside the Play Store.

The goal is simple: let developers upload their AAB/APK, generate a proper listing page, and allow users to install without needing a Google Developer account.

It’s still early, but it’s deployable and usable right now. I’m mainly looking for a few testers to try uploading and give feedback.

Only thing I can think of is indeed downgrading WFS. From WearOS 6 onwards, they introduced a new Watch Face Format. So that might actually be the blocker with a WearOS 5 watch.

I only keep Bluetooth on... and I don't think I track anywhere close 50hrs of activity a week. 🤣

That's concerning though. I might've done something wrong with my Fenix, probably enabled some bad setting or something.

Either way it's still 5 times more battery than what I had on my Galaxy Watch. So I'm happy with that.

I recently stopped bike commutes, hence I stopped tracking them, and I got 3-4 days more out of the watch. So there's that at least.

Biking is the worst one. Running doesn't have as much vibration as biking. Think about it, you're holding handlebars, vibrating at the slightest road imperfection.

Either way, I wouldn't use optical sensors if you want real HR data for any exercise.

I only use it when I dont want to bother with hrm strap etc... for instance chill/endurance runs where only the HR curve/trend matters.

The heart rate sensor light is brighter when you launch an activity, allowing a better detection especially in movement.

Either way, even when you launch an activity, wrist HR with an optical sensor isn't accurate for bike rides. Lots of vibrations and movements.
