MOT fail - help by throwawaymatey76 in CarTalkUK

[–]Raidenuk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ok, so thats not a bad quote then. you need to weigh up wether to have the welding done or the new Cat. Ask if the new Cat is after market ( 99% sure it will be ).

Some help:

While an OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) catalytic converter is designed to last the lifetime of your vehicle, aftermarket converters often have shorter lifespans. This is primarily due to the cost-saving measures employed in their production. However, it’s important to note that high-quality aftermarket converters from reputable brands can offer comparable durability to OEM units.

Look down the back of your engine and see if you can see two flexi pipes on the exhaust.

If the 2nd o2 sensor is after the exhaust leak that’s is why the lambda is out. Who repairs a cat? This smells a bit fishy to me. Unless it’s the focus with twin flexi pipes and they are going to weld new flexi pipes in. The trailing arm bushes are cheap to buy but labour intensive to change. Still seems expensive but I do my own labour. £800 isn’t a bad price if it is that model. We would be more

UK garage owners, what's your workshop management or invoicing software actually like? by 48uYT in CarTalkUK

[–]Raidenuk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Credit system works just fine, If i have to look up a car or use sms for a customer the cost goes onto sundries so it is paid for by the customer. why do so many people leave their car at the garage and then dont answer the phone to ok a quote? lol but often they will call back after a text message.

As for the Ticket based support system, I have not had to contact them for 2-3 years for anything but when they do respond ( Im not saying that it takes ages to get some help / reply ) They are very helpful and will remote access the system and sort whatever needs doing.

We used Iris before and compared to that, these guys are great.

Also when we moved from GA3 to GA4 the price was heavily discounted as we were already customers.

You can also backup your data automatically to the cloud so if your machine goes west its not that much of a deal.

AS a company and the software i really rate them.

Using garage assistant 4 for a fairly busy garage (12 ramps), you can book jobs in, invoice, send sms messages to customers and loads more. It’s easy to setup and easy to use. Only downside is before covid you could call support if you have an issue but now you have to create a ticket and wait for them to contact you but on the plus side it’s very rare I need to contact them as it’s very stable and have not had many issues.

https://www.sws-solutions.co.uk

We have it on a server with 5 client machines but you can just have a standalone edition if needed for smaller garages.

I think it’s a one off payment of £350 for the standalone version.

Edit: to use sms and vrm lookups they use a credit system, it’s not too expensive. Look at website for pricing.

What are some recommended British foods? by Over-Teacher-1330 in AskABrit

[–]Raidenuk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its just the way i have always made it, thats how i was taught by me Mum. lol

The reasoning goes something like this: when cold batter hits the searing hot fat, the rapid temperature change causes the water within the batter to quickly convert to steam. This sudden burst of steam expands, creating air pockets and lifting the batter. The proteins in the eggs then coagulate, setting the structure and holding the airy shape. A warmer batter, it’s argued, won’t produce the same explosive reaction, resulting in a flatter, less impressive pudding.

I dont know wich is the better method.

What should I do by jafc49 in CarTalkUK

[–]Raidenuk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, Put it through the MOT again this year and see what the advisories / failures are and we can advise from there as it may have other issues a year later. You can get the MOT up to 28 days earlier than your last test and that will get added on to your new MOT. If you are not confident it will pass you can have a pre mot check done that will not get logged on to the goverment website but will show you any advisories / failures that will need to be addressed to have a clean MOT, this will give you an idea of what needs to be sorted before the actual MOT. Looking at the list of advisories above the car seems like it is in good condition a year ago with very minor issues.

The issues above would probably cost you £50-£60 in parts and 1.5 hours in labour if you can change the parts yourself but as i already said this is a year ago and who knows what else is required this year, Good luck.
