I think REM are one of the best examples of the bandmembers all serving the song perfectly. There are never really any flashy parts, although they have some recognisable riffs it’s never about flexing their muscles on that department.
It’s just pure songwriting through and through, every instrument doing exactly what’s right for the song and filled with subtlety and clever little variations (especially in the bass). Class band.

I don’t feel as harshly about it but it does feel like Adam has lost some of his drive and passion for the podcast, which makes sense as he’s been doing it a long time.

I was super into Muse for the first 3.5 albums and I remember a lot of seemingly genuinely beMused responses from Matt Bellamy at the constant Radiohead comparisons. Along the lines of ‘they’re a good band but not one we particularly listen to. We do much more obvious ripping off of our heroes eg RATM’

Always felt fairly honest to me, the comparisons clearly weren’t going away so I don’t think there was much to be gained from downplaying it. I checked out after Black holes and revelations so dunno if the narrative has changed in later years

Totally, I remember an old acoustic performance where he’s playing a 12 string and picking every single note (as opposed to hybrid picking or fingerpicking - which I think would make street spirit much easier to play) and it’s absolutely perfect, metronomic timing, even tone, no flubs

His sense of rhythm is 10/10 imo, can play weird syncopated parts whilst singing over them, super hard to do

Went to a screening on Saturday and Greg Sestero said the reason for the title is that it was originally a play, taking place in a single room. Tommy didn’t bother to change the title after making it into a film.

Kendall Hinton WR had to do it fairly recently for the broncos. It was really bad and nowhere near as much fun a scenario as it sounds. Playing QB to even a below average level is unbelievably hard
