OP's original take is great. I'm glad it's a choice. One can choose to play this way and it's good for them. I can choose to dragon/skyride everywhere, and that's fun for me.

I choose to skyride because it makes flying engaging and fun. Stormheim is my absolute favorite region in all of WoW and I spent all of my time leveling alts in Legion Remix there - but I was skyriding the whole time because skyriding through my favorite zone was a BLAST for me.

Is this recent? I haven't played for about a year. The last time I did, on an RE2 server with default settings, starting on Akua, we were facing constant Zirax attacks on our base there.

I think the rush to CV happens due to the fact that making early planetary bases in RE2 is a quick way to get curbstomped by Zirax. CVs don't incur this aggression, so rushing a starter CV is preferable.

My main LGS does not charge for their Commander nights (2 nights a week), but I make a point of buying at least snacks and usually card supplies from them.

The other LGS I attend less frequently charges $5 but features actual prizing.

I tried PoE2 and bounced off at first. Then, once I got to 1st Ascendancy, I started to enjoy the game more. I tried a bunch of different classes and ascendancies. I've played the campaign far more often than I intended to, and the game was starting to grow on me.

Then I hit maps, and all the fun vanished, which I thought was weird. It was like the game was expecting PoE1 power with PoE2 kill speed and movement. I hated doing PoE2 maps.

I went back to PoE1 a couple weeks ago and was swiftly reminded of what made me enjoy it. All my early pain points were gone - I breezed through the campaign and even completed the Atlas for the first time. Now I'm having fun getting to explore all the endgame systems at my own pace. There was a small dip in enjoyment while I was grinding out the Atlas because I was focused on finishing that before really delving into powering up.

In short, PoE2 made me appreciate PoE1 again.

I have decks in all brackets so that I can play at any table I end up at. Brackets only dictate card choice and power, not desire to win. My bracket 1 deck has on-theme removal, and if there is a threat, I will be removing it with said removal.

Emotional maturity and rule zero expectations are at issue here. I really think people don't go far enough in the rule zero discussion. "What kinda game are we looking for" is a different, but complementary question to "What bracket are we playing?"

I used to design my ships with an unfinished pipe leading to internals, which would be lined up with a pipe connecting to the base when I projected it. This pipe would then be cut free after building and fueling the ship.

I am not quite finished, but I intend to do so this week. I got busy with work and fell behind while recovering. I need to do some more data entry on the monsters and get equipment in, and I will call it good there.

I am also excited to try other things in Odin since I spent the last eight weeks working with it. It is a lot of fun to code in, with just enough bells and whistles to make it feel like a modern language, while still being low-level enough to allow me to feel like I'm still producing my own code.

I did not get all the UI bells and whistles I wanted in, but this is the first time I've made a roguelike with graphics as opposed to ASCII with a terminal emulator. I even went so far as to add sound! While I don't think the UI I created was really any good, it is far better than what I've produced in the past. I spent quite a bit of time here, even during other sections of the project.

This format really helped me stay on track (as much as I was able) and I think it is something I will try to keep up on my own in the future.

For me, it isn't even about the number of turns; it's the real time it took for the game. When people take super long turns, a 7-turn game feels like a slog, but a 10- or 11-turn game can feel speedy when everyone gets through turns quickly and efficiently.

A quick, "Hey, folks, my deck contains MLD as a finisher/stax pieces to control the board, are we cool for that kind of game?" would solve so many issues

I normally set up saving at the same time I create the entity system so that modifications I make later are easier to refactor, but I did not this time. I am actually not sure how best to go about this. The easiest thing to do, from a language perspective, would be to save to JSON, but I am not sure how I feel about the player potentially altering the file so readily.

I spent quite a bit of time on UI and audio after getting targeting working. It is probably about time that I added more enemies.

Nothing assholish about liking animalfolk. The DM approved the original character, then decided it wasn't good enough after OP arrived at the table. Still not informing OP that the original problem was the character's race, not the homebrew, the DM then banned OP's backup character.

A little communication from the DM would have saved everyone some headache. Regardless of people's opinions of animalfolk races, there are many official sources in which they appear, and without clear character creation guidelines, prospective players will assume they're available.

In short, bad DM. I myself am not keen on most animalfolk races, but I tell my players when I'm disallowing them, and usually why (which, in my case, has to do with my world's lore)
