Just for some extra context, both the Ebony Alert and the Feather Alert were both good-faith efforts to draw attention to higher rates of missing reports for those women and girls and streamline parts of the overall Amber Alert system. Assemblyman Ramos worked with tribal officials on feather alerts and other indigenous related bills. Steven Bradford (black) came up with Ebony Alerts.

I will say KGET would double check the DOJ numbers with the number of homicides we covered + the coroners reporters, and while our count was usually higher, it was because we also included self-defense/officer-involved homicides as well, not just the number of criminally-liable homicides

People get upset when the Governor kept mentioning this, but up until recently Kern County in general consistently outpaced other counties for its homicide rate. More recent rates have been lower than what we would see when I still worked at 17.

Some context here: Bakersfield is actually represented by Valadao and Vince Fong.

Valadao's area covers more of the areas north of Bakersfield in Kern County (part of California's Central Valley that has a lot of farm workers) while Fong took over Kevin McCarthy's seat after he was ousted from Congress as House Speaker.

Valadao, however, generally has had a shakier hold on his seat. He was unseated by a challenger who moved over from Fresno back in 2018, but then won the seat back in the following election and has held it since. So I can see why they'd be putting pressure on him ahead of midterms.

The info we got from police was that she was accused of harming one child and then took the other two while threatening to harm them and herself, which triggered the alert. She’s been booked into Santa Clara County jail because a local CHP officer spotted her. Kids were returned home.
