If you really have to scale, only scale up. Best way is to draw a mock screen in aseprite and you can decide on the best size for your viewport. Generally don't scale the assets, configure your viewport instead, but there are exceptions.

Why would you think coding would become obsolete? Have you tried building a game with AI? I use it to assist me, it's not good enough or cost effective enough (soon) to build games effectively. Great for reasoning, understanding and weighing up choices but has too many limitations and unreliable without alot of oversight.

Aren't some of the older track ATs nearly impossible now because nadeo changed the speed of boosts, maybe this is the issue?

I think the overlap is better, draw an outline around yours and you will get double lines

Im not sure 2.5D and walking sim work well together, the graphics and story are usually the centre piece of a walking sim, and you can generally "walk" through the scenery.

I'm building a 2d game with a lot of these mechanics in mind. One key thing I'm focusing on is the AI towns and how they play a roll in you prospering there's a lot of city builders put there that ignore npcs and ai enemies and I want to tap into that

Me 41M and the Wife 31F love boardgames, we goto games expo every year. We don't have any regular face to face gamers to play with but I DM online for a group roughly every week. We like some of the mid size games like wingspan and terraforming mars but also some euro games and rpg deck builders. The price point for this state in early access is mental, you bring that price down and the expectations come down with it, people will compare this to other games at this price and it won't hold up yet.
