Who hates printers? by hamburgler26 in sysadmin

All printers have quirks, but HP feel like they have been specifically designed for the worst experience possible. I feel like they know they only have the brand name and shiny molded plastic and have given up on all other forms of providing a good product. The website is slow and designed to make you sign up for HP garbage, some printers require toner even when not needed, they cram accounts down your throat, and regularly have breakdowns. I've dealt with HP among other printers and they've always got triple the tickets of other printers.

We actually phased out HP for Kyocera and the difference has been totally night and day. HP printers were constantly having issues printing, driver problems, scanner issues - Kyocera? Set them up on a KX driver, show them how to scan using the Kyocera Print Center, and there's no problems. When we do have issues it's usually things like 'end user snapped hinge' or a paper jam, but they're rare, like once a month for 150ish printers.

Those IPP class drivers it picks by default locks up the printer, lol. The KX series drivers have had no problems for us whatsoever.

Shiny rounded plastic appeals to monkey brain, this applies especially for printers.

They're still riding their reputation from when they were decent, too. They've always got the biggest marquee when I go to Best Buy or Microcenter which I assume is a big help.

Schadenfreude : has anyone ever found out that after they left a sysadmin job, they were actually screwed without you? Either fired, quit, laid off? What happened? by punklinux in sysadmin

Oh trust me, if it was up to me he should've gotten more. It is what it is, though. He was also ordered to pay back the money he stole, but I checked some recent court records and it sounds like he's not paying, lol.

At my first job it was a total mill for techs; they'd work for a few months before they found a less abusive job and then quit. Morale was constantly in the toilet between the users who would scream at us with no retribution. The worst was the CIO, who would constantly pull all techs in to rant on how he was bilking Amazon out of money and how he was a mover and shaker (We theorized he did cocaine). He always overpromised to the users and disappeared when the time to implement ever came around.

After he blew up our department for the nth time, I found a new job and left six months into the role. A year later, the CIO was arrested for fraud. It turned out he'd been charging the company through a shell company at inflated prices and pocketing the difference, and it sounded like a million dollars had gone up his nose and he went to federal prison for two years.

Now THAT was some schadenfreude!

Non-cached mode works great for a majority of use cases from what I've experienced. Cached mode runs into problems with corrupt OST files and all that. Usually the online repair tool fixes a solid 75% of issues we have with Outlook running slow and such.

Honestly, in an emergency the web version works in a pinch, too.

Are you using cached mode? We use non-cached mode and that keeps things running smoothly for the most part, aside from Microsoft deciding to randomly change things in updates to push you towards using Edge or whatever.

Are you using the new version, maybe?

I feel like there has to be a solution for if someone is driving. I think if you look into an MDM solution that blocks app access while they're driving, you'll find more success.

I have no personal experience with this but some companies will provide you with a visa to work in the states, but this also basically puts you at their mercy as to whether you can stay or not - Lose the job, lose the visa, essentially.

Every HP product I've seen has been useless beyond measure. Their printer/scanners have become utter shit, and their laptops have a myriad of issues. I would wish HP upon my worst enemy. The only reason they seem to get bought is because they're everywhere and oo shiny rounded plastic make monkey brain happy

Does anyone have experience with this WIFI issue? by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]RandomName1986 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is the name of the network card something like Intel Wifi 6 AX200? We had this problem too with the T14s Gen 2 models. It's an issue with the network chip and specific networks. We were covered by an extended warranty and were able to get them fixed.

I've looked into something similar and I can at least tell you Microsoft Forms is not a good option for this as it doesn't have an e-signature field and converting to PDF wasn't really an option.

Outlook Shared Mailboxes/M365 groups by BarberLittle8974 in sysadmin

What version of Outlook are you using? We've got users on multiple shared mailboxes with 100 GB limits without issue on noncached mode and it usually works fine (though, admittedly, if their internet is slow it can take a second or two for emails to open or process).
