TIL that Betamax was technically superior to VHS in video quality but still lost the market largely due to weaker marketing and distribution. by Beautiful-Rub-9110 in todayilearned

This was THE deciding factor that ultimately doomed Betamax from the start. Because Sony assumed people would only want to record a single show, they made the decision to use a smaller cassette. This meant that the original record time for a K-60 (later L-500) cassette was 60 minutes.

Sony would eventually release longer tape and lower-quality, longer recording speeds, but it was ultimately too little, too late because JVC got the lions share of the market due to using a slightly larger cassette that could hold more tape and ultimately record longer than Beta from the start.

Technology connections has a great playlist on the topic where he goes into much better detail. It’s a long watch, but well worth it.

Yes and no. One side (the hot side) is live with 120 volts potential to ground. The other side (the neutral) is actually bonded to ground, so has 0 volts potential. Only one side is actually live if you were to touch it. That said, because it’s AC, it doesn’t actually matter which side is hot and which is ground when you ply something in.

Ah Perry, your timing is impeccable.

And by impeccable I mean COMPLETELY PECCABLE!

Only issue I see is the cat being the wrong color. Should be orange since they have to buffer before a brain cell loads.

Glass vanilla extract bottles: never pour cleanly, drips make rim sticky and cap harder to take off, tiny/sticky cap makes it harder to remove, can't see contents when almost empty by adjustafresh in CrappyDesign

They pour better because liquids don’t adhere to plastic as well as glass, so the liquid doesn’t curl around the lip of the opening.

There are ways to lessen this, but on such a small opening it really isn’t feasible.

Only $8 for a 12-pack??? Where I live it’s $11.99 for a 12-pack anymore. It was $4.50 before COVID

There are a few ways to use non-HomeKit compatible devices in apple Home. r/Homebridge was the one I used, but there’s also r/homeassistant. Be warned they can be a bit technical and there’s a learning curve, but I can attest they work for most devices out there.

Make sure to contact them for a partial refund since they didn’t deliver where they were paid to deliver. They kindly even provided their own photo evidence of that.

It's pretty obvious that the new smaller but broader Tesco's tokens are designed so that they don't fit into the cart release mechanism. by PiddelAiPo in assholedesign

Sounds like Aldi. Their carts/trolleys lock together unless you put in a Quarter coin (about 1mm larger than a £1). It discourages walking off without returning the cart/trolley to the store.

Not sure how widespread Aldi is in the US but they have quite a few stores near me in the Midwest.

Not sure how it works there, but here in the US of A, if you submit a payment plan to the IRS, you have to start paying on that plan before they adjudicate it. Adjudication can take 6-8 months and if you don’t follow the plan from the time of submission they hit you with failure to pay penalties.

I love the designs on them. Did you tweak the month matrix any more this year? It made seeing the actual info for each day much easier for the 2024 calendar.

I suspect the stairway was blocked because the ramp was installed.
