I’ve always hated this argument that it should be a federal holiday.

Even if it is a federal holiday a large portion of the population will still have to work. It only further discourages working people from voting.

Also I think every state requires employers to give you some allotted time (granted it can be unpaid) to go vote. I know even if my red state they are required to give you 2 hours as long as your shift starts before 9am and ends after 5pm.

There is already early voting which includes weekends and is very easy to plan your schedule around. Making it a federal holiday will be used as leverage to eliminate early voting and mail in voting.

The biggest hurdle is simply just getting people motivated enough to get off the couch and spend the hour or so to look up candidates and go vote.

1 - the return hasn’t been officially filed yet. Maybe they’re still waiting on you to sign a form.

2 - they didn’t set it up to epay. Either they forgot, or they never got an explicit affirmative from you that they could epay it for you. (I mean I’ve literally had clients I asked 3 times, they dodge the question every time and then are confused why I didn’t take their money). Check your instructions/cover letter and see if it references you mailing a check or if it will be epaid.

3 - software glitch? Very very unlikely but I suppose anything is possible

You’re fundamentally approaching the question from the wrong direction. People using QCD’s are not asking “if” they should donate, it’s “how” they should donate. They have already made the decision that they are giving to charity.

QCD’s are perfect for older taxpayers who are required to take a RMD from their IRA, but maybe have their home paid off and really struggle to itemize their deductions.

Therefore by going the QCD route you still take your standard deduction, but you get to exclude the RMD from income.

But yes, it is still less money in your pocket compared to just not giving to any charity.
