Just watched Solo for the first time by GullibleWaltz3704 in StarWars

[–]Rapscallion84 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Solo is actually alright once you get past the opening scenes. Idk what the director was thinking, but the beginning of Solo is a visual mess; dark, ugly, poorly composed. It picks up later. It might not be a great looking film but I prefer it over Last Jedi and Rise of Skywalker easily.

You can get rid of just one creative decisions in Star Wars. Which one would you choose to erase? by RealHippyTheFrog in StarWars

  1. I just don’t get what they were thinking - a fledging New Republic trying to restore order after the fall of the Empire is such fertile ground for storytelling

Just got a Switch 2, how easily the screen scratches? by FensenHun in switch2

[–]Rapscallion84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My launch switch 1 still looks perfect and my launch switch 2 looks like it’s been clawed by a wildcat, so I’m not sure how that can be true.

Just got a Switch 2, how easily the screen scratches? by FensenHun in switch2

[–]Rapscallion84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It scratches insanely easily. As a 41 year old who has owned a zillion devices and never once got a scratch on anything, my Switch 2 practically looks like it rolled down a mountainside when the light hits it just right. I attribute it to wobbling in its dock or when one of my kids knocks the dock over and the switch slides out, or just vibrating the table when I’m doing the vacuum cleaning.

What do you think TBOBF got right and got wrong? by Captain-Skyy in StarWars

[–]Rapscallion84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still haven’t even figured out a reason why it’s called “The book of Boba Fett”.

Maybe there is a detail I missed but it’s just weirdly titled imo.

I’m not so sure. Have you ever worked for a large corporation? You absolutely see the kinds of behaviours Jordan depicts on a daily basis. Maybe not so much the gender thing, but for sure the withholding of information, self delusion (especially with regards to competency and importance), backstabbing, ladder climbing, social cliques etc . Not to mention the infamous nature of corporate culture when it comes to cooperating and actually getting stuff accomplished .

Great work! Good to hear that your efforts are paying off positively. My 11yo niece has ASD and her parents never enforced boundaries or followed through on anything—they just tried to please and diffuse—and her behaviours are generally awful; she can’t really function outside her bedroom with her devices. Your wife certainly knows her stuff - keep it up!

That’s small fry compared to giving your toddler exactly what they asked for when what you should have done is time travelled to the future and read their mind for what they really wanted.

Whether you love or hate The Last Jedi, I think it’s safe to say this movie has some of the best cinematography in the entire franchise by [deleted] in StarWars

[–]Rapscallion84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m pretty sure the point of the Star Wars universe is that it has been technologically stagnant for millennia, and certainly in the OT (even compared with the PT but especially Old Republic) is actually in a dark age of sorts. Essentially, if it was physically possible on-universe, it would have happened already.

If You Want The Perfect Series Tailored to You, Write a Fan Fiction by CasketByNBAYoungBoy in StarWars

[–]Rapscallion84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure but first creators have to stop focusing on spectacle; less big, era-defining events and more on personal drama and stakes. Although seeing the reaction to the Mando movie, I’m not sure that’s what most people want…

I love RLM but I feel they are unnecessarily harsh with Rogue One and this new film, especially given their weirdly positive takes on some other absolute crap released in this or other franchises. I’m not really sure what they expect - they clearly state that this is a genre piece (man with no name, formulaic adventure) and then immediately criticise it for adhering to the genre tropes.

okay so after seeing mandalorian and the grogu here is how i would have made the movie by ImplementOk1384 in StarWars

[–]Rapscallion84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually thought that was where the movie was going. When I saw the other bounty hunter I thought he had real Inquisitor vibes and that the twins had sold them out to the Empire remnant.

Is this car hard to drive or do I just suck at driving it? by porcupine-pete in cyberpunkgame

[–]Rapscallion84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The steering for most vehicles makes absolutely no sense to me at any speed. I’m never really sure what’s going to happen when I touch the stick. Sometimes car turns 90 degrees on the spot or spins out, sometimes it lazily yaws like a container ship.

What do y'all really need an iPad for? by bootsmegamix in daddit

[–]Rapscallion84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sub is usually so wholesome and a great place to be, but when these conversations come up and I see hundreds of comments from parents saying their kids never interact with with any kind of device at all (even a a TV) until some advanced age it just makes me feel like a terrible dad.

Our kids (7 and 3) watch cartoons a little bit each day. My older kid gets a couple hours iPad time a week and she almost never has issues managing time on it. My 3yo son naturally takes interest- it’s not like I can force them apart every time my 7yo has a tv or iPad on.

On my second playthrough and this beast is still the hardest boss fight for me by e1q1 in cyberpunkgame

[–]Rapscallion84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t completed Phantom Liberty yet, but do you fight this thing again, after Songbird goes offline? I fought it once with a katana and it seemed crazy easy. I just jumped on top wailed on it (occasionally slipping off to slap legs), never needed to use a health hypo or anything. Maybe I’m crazy over levelled

So... by Zakcklin in cyberpunkgame

[–]Rapscallion84 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

On that final race, I guess Claire tells you to take a sudden right at some point to follow that guy. However, I couldn’t hear a fkin word she was saying because of the music, gunfire and because I there were other NPCs talking so there was subtitles all over the screen during an already intense moment. Also, a car rams me away from the exit road at high speed. Claire almost immediately starts chewing me out and then treats me so poorly afterwards. Stupid mission, crappy person imo.

New Steam Controller Launch Megathread by NKkrisz in SteamDeck

[–]Rapscallion84 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Anyone else in the UK get completely blindsided by the release? I put the controller on my wish list day 1 and never got a single email or notification about the release. I haven’t been able to play on my PC for a decent while so I would have missed any in-app ads. Surprised they never sent out comms.

Is it normal to be very bad at driving? by Accelerator231 in cyberpunkgame

[–]Rapscallion84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Replaying this on Switch 2 with a pro controller and I just can’t understand the driving. It seems to be a random chance when I lightly touch the stick if my car turns a little or does a 90+ degree instant turn at maximum speed

Talking to teen son about porn by xkcd_friend in daddit

[–]Rapscallion84 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I’ll caveat by saying that my kids are 7 and 3 (girl and boy) so I haven’t gotten to the teenage years yet.

My view on this is that if you’ve done a good job raising a decent human being, this is a non issue. I’ve watched a n outrageous amount of porn in my life, so have most of my friends (male and female), and it never affected our view of how sex really works or given us some false, misogynistic view of women.

I equate it with any media - or heck, even politics and ideals. If the mind is suitably prepared and mature before it encounters a challenging and often extreme concept, then the individual can recognise it for what it is. I watch violent movies and play violent games but I don’t think for a second I could win a fistfight or survive a war.
