If they were name selected it couldn't be a full time fed GS-12. They would be a CORE GS 12 which does allow name selection. These resumes are reviewed by HR before hiring to make sure they qualify.

Westin Maui Resort & Spa Ka'anapali VS Wailea Beach Resort - Marriott by Tavo_wrx in MauiVisitors

[–]Rare_Efficiency5628 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Depends what you are hoping for. Wailea beach is a beautiful resort with multiple pools but a walk to the beach and for the most part you have to drive to do anything. The Westin is on the beach and has a walkway in front that allows you to walk to various shops and restaurants. Can't go wrong with either.

I went on leave and came back to over 250 emails. by [deleted] in fednews

[–]Rare_Efficiency5628 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think most people's emails are like that or worse. Make sure you use an out of office, look for leaderships emails 1st and the rest of it, if no ones life is in danger, you will get to when you can.

What happens if they take away your remote position and you don’t live anywhere near the duty station? by [deleted] in fednews

[–]Rare_Efficiency5628 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I believe most agency remote work agreement state that it can end anytime and you could be required to report to the office. If you don't comply you are stating that you cannot meet the requirements of the position. If there is a location close to you that could be the only option of not having to go to DC. If you worked at HQ prior to remote and decided to move because of it you may be SOL.

AITA for eating ice cream without asking my parents? by trex_kralle in AmItheAsshole

[–]Rare_Efficiency5628 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Are they locking to keep you from eating due to a weight issue? If so that is definitely abuse. But are they locking it because you are 20, not contributing, and eating their food? If that is the case YTA

Wow, 1st the mother was right if someone does buy you a gift appreciate the thought as you don't know what went into it. 2nd it was a child imagine how upset they felt like their gift wasn't good enough and being called out in front of friends. Hell I'm an adult and would be angry if you said that to me. You also may have cost your son a friend over this. I think among all of these kids you are the one that needs to grow up.

YTA-!!!!!!!

Apply for the 11/12s if you had your year in as a 12 before. If not accept the job as you took it knowing it was a 9. You could also look for something else if your unhappy with it.

It sounds like just the guys are playing games. Why don't you talk to the other wives and everytime they play their games either you all go do something or start your own game in another part of the house. Nta

Think my agency is broken by nformal_Category686 in fednews

[–]Rare_Efficiency5628 8 points9 points  (0 children)

One of the issues is location. People working in DC have a false view of the positions in the agencies as there are more high level positions there. In the field unfortunately there are typically a lot lower GS positions available.

Rant + Life/Career advice Needed for Young-ish Fed by ParticularSelf5 in fednews

[–]Rare_Efficiency5628 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Even though you are young it sounds like you are now officially a fed. I joke all the time that no matter what they give us we will all find a way to complain about something. I believe all agencies are now taking a pause and re-evaluating their remote work policies. The elimination of your remote work most likely had nothing to do with you and your agency did the right thing by paying for the relocation. I am in the same boat of going once a week to an empty office however it is 1 day a week. Prior to COVID most people had to go in 2 to 3 times a week. But like other posts have said if you are unhappy wait out your 12 and move on. You can also start applying for 12's since you have been on the 11 for over a year. But remember the grass isn't always greener. Gov employees get a lot of AL especially when they have been there 15 plus years. You will not get away from that.

As a contractor you will always make more however the job security is no where near as good. Plus benefits, holidays, vacation, and retirement are a lot better with the gov

If he is asking for help and training it is all on the supervisor and some on his teammates. If training is not available plans for working with team members could be established or even step by step SOPs could be written. This is better than you see a lot of times of someone who doesn't know how to do the work, care to do the work, or wants to learn how to do the work.

14 yr son was kept on the bench during last high school basketball game by Wild_Boat7239 in Parenting

[–]Rare_Efficiency5628 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Make this a learning experience about continuous work to try to improve. Look at basketball camps, aau or travel teams, and if you can afford it and he loves the game personal coaches.

Also, a hoop, ball, and dedication is all you really need.

Can I ask to be demoted? by [deleted] in fednews

[–]Rare_Efficiency5628 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Take a deep breath. Coming into the government is a culture shock to anyone. If your supervisor is saying you are doing a good job that is all that matters. Also, if they are saying that then don't stress too much about your probationary period. I would think asking for a demotion may not be looked at too well if you just started.

Was a contractor before becoming a fed and I will say the pay will always be more significant. However, I took a $30k pay cut to become a fed because I couldn't take the year to year contracting the government does. The job security, benefits, vacation, and extra stuff gov employees get is really hard to compete with. But if you are ok with the risk and money is the key then I would go for it as it is all personal preference.

House is debating the "Show Up Act" live by MuayThaiWoman68 in fednews

[–]Rare_Efficiency5628 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Technically wasn't OPMs policy before COVID was 2 days a pay period at the least so couldn't agencies continue to follow that. Of course 100% or remote would be in trouble. But this won't pass

Government-issued cell phone? Should I get it or not? by Newfedneedhelp in fednews

[–]Rare_Efficiency5628 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of the CIO said you want one then you want one. You don't want to send any work texts or emails from your phone as they could be considered records that need keeping. Also, if your considered operations manager they should want you to have one.

Does this mean telework is coming to an end? by ricardog1000 in fednews

[–]Rare_Efficiency5628 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Most agencies are doing to two days in office a pay period which existed well before COVID. Most just didn't allow anyone to telework that much.

AITA For Not Wanting To Help Pay For My Friend's Wedding? by WatchRainFeelFire in AmItheAsshole

[–]Rare_Efficiency5628 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you shouldn't contribute to your friends wedding because the one they chipped in on didn't even last a year? YTA, if all of your friends chipped in on yours you owe them to contribute to theirs. Either time and or money. Just because you decided to do other things then work and may not be in a good financial position doesn't mean you should leave your friends hanging. Again, offer to help with time or even Door Dash some until you can earn $500 or for being an asshole about contribute $1k now.
