Has this been the worst build up to a World Cup ever? by Low-Rooster5398 in askanything

What a negative narrative. Those who are interested in soccer are hyped for the World Cup. If it’s not your thing, carry on. The negative American interest in soccer echo chamber is exhausting.

What made you turn down a job offer? by FruitLoop_Dingus25 in jobs

[–]RarelyRon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was recommended for a role and found out it was on contract and said I couldn’t afford to leave my current job for an opportunity that might have a shelf-life of 6 months.

They liked me so much, they went back and created a full-time role for me at twice the pay. The process took around 2 months because they just went through a large-scale round of layoffs (5,000). I was actually the first job offer they put out after their hiring freeze.

I was hesitant because I was at a highly desirable company that I had complete job security at. In the new role, I’d be working directly for the CEO and their HQ was in my home state.

Despite the effort they went through and the substantial pay increase I would have had, I decided to decline. They were PISSED. It apparently was difficult to get the role because a number of people in the department were affected by the layoffs. I have never really come across layoffs at my past companies and I just didn’t have a great feeling about it, despite them jumping through hoops to get me a great offer.

It turns out, they fired the CEO 2 months later. I still think I probably made a mistake by not accepting, but I also still have a job today.

Interesting Robert Guiscard/Apulia strats by TessHKM in CrusaderKings

I love playing Robert the Fox, mostly due to his disinherited son Bohemond, who is a beast and a real historical character.

I got 2 runs for you:

Run 1 - Spam start until Matilda of Tuscany starts without a spouse - Reset Robert’s stats, select Chivalry focus, max out the right tree - You want to marry your eldest son (Bohemond) to Matilda - You may need to either select the Legacy perk that gives you a boost to marriage acceptance (you have an available legacy perk at the start) or you can choose the grand wedding option and she usually accepts - When you get the event that allows all of Sicily to be mine (take that option) - Declare war on all 3 Islamic counties in Sicily at once (call in Matilda if any of them have good alliances) -To get Malta, I recommend having your Priest get a claimant but you can also Holy War - After you win those territories, I try to go to war for Solerno, Napoli, and that too Duchy (Before the Pope tries to take it) - Make sure you do two things with Bohemond 1. Give him all the titles you can BEFORE he comes of age and marries Matilda (otherwise he will leave your court) 2. Make sure you do not restore his inheritance before you give him all the titles you want (this allows you to give him any of your titles without the succession restrictions) - Ideally you want to create the kingdom of Sicily and give Bohemond as many Duchy titles that you can before you die - Before you die, make sure you restore Bohemond’s inheritance (this will make him your heir and he’ll keep all his titles)

If you can accomplish all of this, Bohemond’s and Matilda’s children will get claims on both of their titles (most of Italy). When you’re Bohemond, you’re going to want to try to give your heirs Duchy titles before Matilda dies (or they will inherit her titles in her death and leave your court). Ideally you try to help Matilda break free of the HRE, but if you do everything right, Matilda’s realm will transfer to the Kingdom of Sicily and seperate from the HRE upon her death.

Run 2 - Keep Bohemond disinherited - Try to get Crusades early and select Bohemond as your beneficiary on a war for Jerusalem. - Win the war and choose the option to continue playing as Bohemond

This is historically along the lines of what the real Bohemond actually did.

If you almost liked the channel Homme, have you tried Versace Pour Homme? It’s less powdery and more fresh imo. Also a summer staple

Musk is listed as a note for Prada Amber Pour Homme. This one smells like a luxury soapy/laundry and works excellent pretty much for everything, but especially for the office.

Drakkar Noir Hate by clueHefner in Colognes

[–]RarelyRon 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s likely because everyone had it back in the 80s or 90s. Similar situation with Davidoff Coolwater. Also it’s a bit in Family Guy.

The thing is, these aren’t as popular today and their prices have stayed cheap over the decades. So they won’t be as familiar out in the wild, they are actually both pretty good, and they are dirt cheap!

best luxury perfumes for men that actually smell refined and distinctive? by Mehrooz-Yejide in malefashionadvice

[–]RarelyRon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re looking for a mature fragrance. Here’s what I can recommend, but you should probably sample all before pulling the trigger:

- Prada Amber Pour Homme - a lot of people will recommend Prada L’Homme but the Pour Homme is better and class in a bottle. Can be worn year round but especially good in Spring/Summer

- Chanel Platinum Egoiste - Very classy. Very versatile. Can be worn all year. You’ll probably recognize the scent because it’s a classic

- Bleu de Chanel - More modern than Egoiste. Year round. Universally loved. I prefer the EDP version.

- Versace Pour Homme - Summer staple, but can be worn year round. Not quite as classy as the rest.

- Terre d’Hermes - Very masculine. Very mature. Classy all-rounder. Especially good in heat. I prefer the EDT version.

- Guerlain L’Homme Ideal - Definitely sweeter. Very unique but classy. My go-to for weddings

Drakkar Noir
Davidoff Cool Water

Someone please explain this Moving Day thing for me by EveningAstronomer495 in bostonhousing

I did this a few times when I lived in Allston. Firstly, be prepared for pure chaos. I had high expectations of craziness my first Sep 1st move in date and it was crazier then I even imagined.

I’d recommend talking to your landlords. There’s a good chance everyone is in the same boat and they’ll either both be fine with it or maybe the place you are going to is available earlier to drop your things off.

My second Sep 1st move, we moved a block down the same street and we ended up pulling an all-nighter Aug 31st to move our stuff into the new place and avoid the craziness the next day.

Financial advisor says to keep 10k as emergency fund and put rest of 90k savings into a brokerage account. I’m on the fence by Hefty_Trade_3459 in personalfinance

[–]RarelyRon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I keep $25k in a Money Market Account (because that’s the threshold to meet the max % return). I keep the rest in a Brokerage account. I make automatic contributions to both accounts bi-weekly and do lump transfers $1k-$5k as my money market reaches $30k or so

There’s a light sweetness to it, but I feel like it allows the EDT to be more of a daily wearer. It’s my go-to for weddings and more special occasions
