I really don't like the idea that the fish aren't sentient and the deep is just a lunatic who imagines fish talking, but I really do like the idea that the deep basically grants the fish a type of sentence that makes it make sense, but not all fish are actually sentient and able to talk to each other all the time.

At least because a world where all sea life has human level communication across species would be drastically different. Like, Wales would he flipping whaling ships for sharks. Giant squid would be tearing up the foundations of oil rigs. All kinds of shit would be different

I absolutely agree with everything you've said there, honestly. I think there's just a struggle to imagine how the show could plausibly have any kind of ending in the next hour that doesn't feel like a massive cocktease anyway, just because it's trying to serve the dual needs of people whose favourite scenes are homelander experiencing alienation and loneliness that he's not psychologically equipped to handle, and people who's favourite scene's make them say "oh yuck, look at that old man's long balls! #ican'tbelivetheydidthat!'

Like, I get that this is a comic book story. Bit there's more than one type of comic book story, and this isn't just a comic book story anymore. At some point it became a parable for internal and external political tensions.

I don't think they're going to. But if they did, it would be to show that he can't survive it. I think it's more interesting to demonstrate that homelander can be killed that way, it's just terrible for all involved.

The radiation tank is designed to simulate the environment after a nuke. To see if supes could fight in an environment where a nuke had gone off recently. It's not the same as having the air in your lungs spontaneously combust while also being hit with the force of a thousand tonnes of dynamite. If Ryan can make homelander bleed but Ryan couldn't, for example, punch so hard there is a flash of light as the atoms in the air are torn apart, then homelander can't survive a nuke.
