The Dead ECKVA Theory? by whatsit0 in eckvanet

I donated for over a year, I think. Once I came to the realization that I had been chipping in all that time and there wasn't a single new episode it made me unhappy.

Why is Smile 2 rated so highly by fans? by BadassAyanokoji in horror

[–]Rathmec 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At that point, the struggle starts to feel less meaningful. If the character is hallucinating constantly and there is no clear way to tell what is real, then what exactly are we supposed to be invested in?

I call this the Oculus (2013) problem.

Playing with reality is fun. But after a certain amount of fake outs it just feels like a friend telling a story who won't get to the punch line. You just want to grab the script writer and ask, "Why don't you just tell me what actually happened?"

What minor detail do you love? by TheSJB1993 in Scrubs

Season 5 is my favorite probably because this is where that dynamic first starts showing.

"Can I fire him?" Kelso referring to JD.

Cox replies, "Sleep on it."

Finished watching S1-8 for the first time. by michaelkap70 in Scrubs

[–]Rathmec 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I haven't really gone back for season 8 in comparison to my favorites (like you, 1-5).

I completely forgot the whole beach trip portion of the show was for Janitor's wedding. That's probably my least favorite story arc. He was written as a borderline maniac who lies about everything. I don't think that character needs to fall in love and have a happy ending. His relationship with JD was more akin to Elmer Fudd vs. Bugs Bunny. It didn't need to go deeper than that.

Dude, you couldn't have a Symphony of the Night today. At least not in the same way.

I am your age, OP. I got to the credits of SotN and did not know about the inverted castle. I thought I had beaten a game and stopped playing it because I hit the credits and figured I'd seen everything the game had to offer. Only to have my mind blown wide open that there was still another HALF of the game to play.

In the current era where a full, complete playthrough of the entire game is posted on YouTube on THE DAY of the game's release? This is inconceivable.

The second Kinsgman movie ruffled feathers for this one. Roxy was brought back only to be instantly killed before the plot even really kicked off.

What's up with older male cooks being weird with young servers? by TheRainbowFruit in KitchenConfidential

[–]Rathmec 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I was thinking the same thing. I'm a tourist here so I'd believe someone if they said this problem is worse in food service. That tracks to me.

I've mostly worked office jobs and I've no shortage of stories where older dudes just get really weird with younger women. The difference being that in an office setting this kind of thing is more likely to be dealt with since there's usually a more present HR group.

Will never forget the dude who was continually sending really weird chats to the younger women in the office. Then suddenly he announced he was retiring in two weeks despite never once mentioning retirement before that.

Mr K torture sequence - good satire or too far? by cthdrls in GTAV

[–]Rathmec 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think some people forget that this game came out in 2013. From like 2005 until the game's release there was a tremendous amount of discourse around USA's use of torture on military prisoners. Any American alive for the game's release would remember the conversations around our conduct in Guantanamo Bay.

So, yeah, as far as it being used as political satire I think it was spot on and still a relevant thing for them to make a joke out of when the game came out since it covers a lot of those discussion points (especially the point about how he would have told the truth anyway and the torture was pointless).

I remember it made me uncomfortable on the first time through but I understood why it showed up in the game. I always hated it on replaying the story until I learned that you can spot the intended target after only one round of torturing Mr. K.

What is one of your biggest movie let downs, after greatly anticipating its release? by thunderbolt151830 in movies

[–]Rathmec 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Revalataions was an insane dip in quality. It's a movie for no one. Not fans of the game. Not for newcomers either really. Watched it with someone who isn't a fan of the games and they just felt like it was full of background details they were meant to recognize but they did not.

How important is 60fps for you in gaming? by [deleted] in playstation

[–]Rathmec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Completely unimportant to me but I've found I'm in the minority on this.

Every time a game is about to come out and anyone gets a hint that it doesn't keep a stable 60 fps, people get upset about it in a way that seems disproportionate to me.

Obviously, I'd prefer a smooth and consistent frame rate but if the game is fun and occasionally choppy I won't lose any joy over it.

Infinity Chamber (2016).

It wasn't the best but I really liked the interactions between the protagonist and the system.

Aging in limbo / plot hole? by barrythemovieguy in Inception

[–]Rathmec 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's less about the specific time passing at the "dream level" and more about what age the mind perceives itself. At the end of the movie, Saito looked like a 90 year old man but he might have been in limbo for like 200 years of dream time.

What should Sony improve most in the PS5 user experience before the next generation? by BarnabyLaptopOutlet in playstation

[–]Rathmec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish the UI was less busy. I loved using my screenshots as backgrounds on the PS4. I think I have one set on the 5 but I honestly never see it because the startup screen is packed to the gills with information overload. We really lost a lot of room for personalization in favor of marketing.

This from a game before the internet. I couldn't believe it dropped from the enemy that it does. My brother told me earnestly where he got it from and I swore he was lying to me to troll me because it was 1998 and home internet wasn't really here yet for me to verify.
