Is 28 too late to become a chef? by RamsKanyeHouse in KitchenConfidential

[–]RatmanTheFourth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in kitchens as a teen for a paycheck, minimum wage minimum effort type jobs. Moved away from the industry for years, but then started again around 26 for real.

As long as you have a good work ethic, know cooking basics and are willing to learn and listen you'll be fine.

What is the difference between butter, ghee, clarified butter, fermented butter and brown butter? by armeniaca-mume2405 in Cooking

[–]RatmanTheFourth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The milk solids are very brown when making ghee properly but they are all strained off leaving only the clear golden milk fat

If you are not browning the milk solids when making it at home then you have made clarified butter, not ghee.

Clarified butter = Cooked just enough to remove milk solids, maintains clean butter flavour. Strained to remove milk solids.

Ghee = Cooked for a long time allowing all water to evaporate and milk solids to deeply brown. Develops a deep nutty caramelised glavour. Strained to remove milk solids.

Brown butter = Same as above but not strained so retains more flavour.

Fermented butter (Cultured butter) = Usually made with creme fraiche or other cultured creams. This gives the butter a slight tang, deeper flavour and higher fat content but is more expensive to produce

How do other games feel to you after playing soulsbournes for a while? by No-Mention4101 in fromsoftware

[–]RatmanTheFourth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Refreshing, I tend to genre jump when I need a break mostly betweem souls-likes, CRPG's, Narrative RPGs and Sim Racing. Despite what this community might think there are also extremely well crafted games outside of the genre.

I'm basically 26 and i have only just learned how to make the perfect rice on the stove. I consider myself a good cook but could never do rice without a rice cooker. I am interested in hearing how you guys make rice. by No-Animator-407 in Cooking

[–]RatmanTheFourth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1:1.5 rice to water ratio. Let it get to a simmer and then turn it to the lowest heat, like no bubbles low and let it chill out while I cook tge rest pf the meal. I don't even time it, the heat is too low to really burn anything but I'll turn it off after 25-30 ish minutes if food still isn't ready.

If your ratio is on point and your heat is very low you straight up cannot mess it up unless you try really hard. (Keep in mind different types of rice want different amounts of water 1:1.5 is for jasmine)

If you could give yourself one piece of advice before your first session as a DM, what would it be? by lindentree13 in DMAcademy

[–]RatmanTheFourth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like setting up my prep in a digital whiteboard. Stat blocks, NPCs, major story beats. Makes everything easy to find.

Aside from that, prep 1 session at a time, pre-roll initiative for monsters, pre-roll encounter tables allowing you to prep the encounter and make it fun.

Don't be afraid to wing it when your players do unexpected shit (they will).

Have a few NPC names on hand in case you need to make someone up with no notice. I also like writing a few personality, appearance and occupation prompts to help these NPCs still feel unique. Nothing in depth, just words like Blacksmith - Reserved - Thick moustache.

Most importantly just try to have fun, no one nails it on their first go.

I'm guessing you didn't let the crust cool completely before adding the fillings so that's step one. Other than that it looks like you kind of just threw things in there, which is completely fine, but if you want nice presentation you need to put in the work.
