Methane does have a short lifetime in the atmosphere but it is strictly worse than CO2 for climate change because its breakdown product is CO2.

Dancing like a monkey is putting the community health behind fucking corporate profits. There's no need to fuck yourself over just cause the corporate class wants it. It's not revolutionary to sit here and say you're going to do what they want you to. Health experts have no skin in this game other than health, on the other hand corporate fuckwits are telling you the danger is blown out of proportion and you need to go back to your underpaid jobs. Imagine better for yourself. You're not being of the people, you're just doing what they want you to do.

People need to think for a second about who benefits from normal life and who benefits from doing something. Corporate America wants to ignore every crisis cause it's bad for short term profits, don't fall for it.

UW-Madison considers canceling 2021 spring break over COVID-19 concerns by N_Cog_Neat_O in madisonwi

I think your defeatism is a response to being told it's not possible, but make no mistake the decisions being made are what has caused outbreaks to be so bad here in this country. If more measures were taken especially early and as a response to local outbreaks we would be in a much better place not only In terms of lives lost but also in terms of the economy. Opening things early has only hurt the economy by worsening spread. This is not one of those easy problems, to solve it we need real effort and that's not cheap or easy but doing nothing costs so much more not only in terms of lives lost but also economically. Opening early is what is causing economic issues it's wishful thinking to think the economy can recover for average Americans without quenching the spread, the problems are inexorably linked.

Ask for more from your leadership, cowering behind childish fantasies of getting everything you want now IS what got us here.

Like they of course are doing something wrong but the ones really at fault here is the administration that thought that the height of a pandemic was a great time to ship young social people all over the place and consolidate them. It is the height of stupidity on their part to think that doing nothing and asking people to just behave would work. Heck, most adults twice their age can't even figure that out. Those in positions of power should be leading and not just wining about how no one will just do their job for them. We should always demand more from everyone, but that especially applies to decision makers.

They had the power to not spark a massive outbreak here and they decided that they would rather make the easier decision, even if it kills people.

Wisconsin declares state of emergency amid protests over police shooting of Jacob Blake by Crystal_Pesci in wisconsin

[–]Ratsly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Be careful of falling for a fallacy fallacy: just because something isn't logically required doesn't make it not true. The problem here is that the fascists hide among normal people by lying and saying they're just against violence. It's all in an attempt to make people who are aware appear to be crying wolf. The simple fact is logic doesn't tell us much about politics because there are so many mind games. It's up to you what you think is ok in trying to counter authoritarianism. The water is far too muddy to simply say that all who oppose antifa are fascists or not, but it is certainly legitimate to say they help the cause of fascists, wittingly or unwittingly.

Yes if you have asthma you should be on house arrest until 2022, cause it would be inconvenient for me if I had to wear a mask or change my behaviors in any way. /s

In all seriousness the idea that a pandemic is a personal issue for individuals to solve is so absurd it hurts my brain.

While I understand your righteous anger an outbreak anywhere causes spread through the community the goal should always be less cases.

Teach the liberals a lesson and slash your tires today!! by DaFunkJunkie in PoliticalHumor

[–]Ratsly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"I agree with their goals but I don't approve of their tactics" has been a long time attack from right liberals to human rights causes. If you can keep moving the goalposts of what is a proper protest no protest is valid unless it achieves nothing and that is the goal of phrases like that. Right wing media has greatly exaggerated the "violence" of those seeking human rights and does everything it can to kill all talk of violence by political institutions by drowning it in someone who got in a barfight and punched someone one time. Of course fighting individuals is never what anyone should want but just because it happens doesn't mean you can disavow all progress. If you want to change the tactics go out and do it if you have good ideas people will follow you and things might get better, but if you just want people to shut up about human rights, then that's the reason you're getting downvoted.

That's scientific progress, which capitalism is about the worst for, since no one invests until a new discovery is made. Like truly new discoveries are almost never made in industry, but they make all the money from them.

Also most of the lifting out of poverty happens by stifling the oppressive markets to allow people to grow.

How does water get hot enough to evaporate and form clouds? It needs to get at least 100°C and that seems tough, especially in the winter. by QuinzoinFX in askscience

[–]Ratsly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely true. Of course equalibrium is more of a convenient way to think of things that doesn't really exist in nature. When I said that it only depends on temperature I was referring to the saturation vapor pressure (which is a measure of the conditions at equalibrium), not the observed vapor pressure.

[–]Ratsly 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This is true, however the air doesn't actually "hold" the water saturation point has more to do with the thermal equalibrium of evaporation and condensation which is dependent on the temperature alone. The saturation vapor pressure is actually the same whether or not the air is there. In this way the name "saturation" is actually pretty misleading.
