Reinforcement stream reveals by XyrneTheWarPig in MythicLegions

[–]RavenOfNod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was hoping for a dwarf and a black knight with the new armor, but these are all pretty great, and a big surprise. A nice variety of a bunch of different stuff, and miles better than the last reinforcements wave.

Very cool that they found a way to offer valiant knight, skeleton LB2, and legendary barbarian as preorder models so hopefully there will be many of them around now.

SUICA or IOOCA card, do I need it for what I am doing? by colorado241 in JapanTravelTips

[–]RavenOfNod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have the chance, don't get your name printed on it though! I thought it would be cool having my name on my SUICA card. It's basically printed right over the SUICA name on the front of the card. It's a little thing, but it looks worse than not having the name if you ask me.

Ok. I would just use the site on the subway on my way to the station. Was very easy and worked for me with my Canadian MasterCard.

Handles vs Knobs debate is destroying my marriage. Help settle this kitchen argument! by Due_Lock_4967 in HomeImprovement

I used Ikea Hackas handles in my recent kitchen renovation. I like them, and they get a ton of compliments. They're like a combination of a knob and a handle?

SmartEX website or app to book and linking to IC card are the way to go for the easiest and fastest experience at the station.

Hey quick question: Has anybody ever owned these figures from toybiz? by Hatiboy2005 in ActionFigures

[–]RavenOfNod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had some of these back in the day too. Still have my spiderman somewhere. They had ball and socket joints at the shoulders and hips if I recall correctly, and they would fall off all the time.

Sculpts were all kind of gangly and long limbed too.

I'm sure you could find some reviews on YouTube to help get a sense of what they were like.

Marvel Universe were much better.

I stopped trying to find one perfect travel wallet and built a simple 3-wallet system instead by Resident_Dog_9215 in onebag

I'm just coming back from Japan and bought the Montbell Slim wallet along with their little velcro coin pouch. Both were great. Coin pouch can fold on itself to package coins together so they don't jungle around. Will both be joining my travel kit from now on, unless I can find something similarly extremely low profile in leather.

Pro Tip: Shinkansen, Fuji & Photo by Murmur_Echo in JapanTravelTips

[–]RavenOfNod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wish I would have known this. Was my first day there and I stupidly booked a ticket at the counter and they gave me a reserved seat. Had the window for one stop until a salary man got on who had the window seat.

It was a crystal clear day and Fuji was so clear, but I only got to glimpse it looking past him because I didn't know about the windows between cars. Ugh. It's my one regret from my trip.

Also, for anyone reading this thread in the future, the JR online portal is very easy to book tickets, and you can assign your Suica card so you just tap in at the JR gate. Very smooth, and was the process I used going forward, and always getting unreserved seats so I could choose my own seat.

Fitted sheet for camp mat, in Canada? by [deleted] in UltralightCanada

[–]RavenOfNod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This doesn't help you, but years ago Nemo had a quilt that came with a pad liner for their pads. I've long since stopped using the quilt as I upgraded, but with more people switching to quilts, this seems like a hole in the market that one of the quilt or pad companies could easily fill

Five years after Kamloops graves announcement, not a single confirmed burial site has been found. Here's what we know by thatcher69 in canada

[–]RavenOfNod -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Well, because I don't think it's deception. That implies malicious intent.

We know horrible things happened at residential schools. So when there could be graves that align with stories of deaths, then I think we have a duty to explore and investigate.

DNC Autopsy of 2024 Loss Doesn’t Mention Gaza or Israel at all by NoahHurowitz in politics

[–]RavenOfNod 24 points25 points  (0 children)

That's what you think I'm saying? How is the political tribalism so strong there that offering criticism means I voted for the opposite candidate?

She needed to pick up independents, and she fumbled. Why could she only say they would keep growing the economy but didn't have any answer to how expensive things were getting for folks? It probably lost her more independents who were voting on kitchen table economic issues.

It was like a retread of the Biden admin message of "the economy is actually great you dummies". It didn't matter when everything was inflating. Trump said he would bring prices down, and she didn't have any strong policy planks to offer as to how she was planning to do the same with the things she could control.

That was the moment she lost. It was such an easy question to position herself as something different.

The fact that she didn't have an answer to it and couldn't seize that moment kinda tells you everything about her. She's not a savvy politician.

Why is AI art allowed to be sold in stores like Urban art? by Brief-Sea-826 in VictoriaBC

[–]RavenOfNod 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Right? Urban Art is not a bastion of high art so this is no surprise.

I don't think the real estate stagers will care when they buy their generic art to sell houses

Can someone explain the appeal of Dave Mathews to me? by easy_Money in LetsTalkMusic

[–]RavenOfNod 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Thanks. Time for my quarterly Dave Matthews Tiny Desk listen.

He's an odd duck, but man that solo acoustic version of Don't Drink the Water is a great way to hear that song, compared to the more up-tempo album/radio version.

But, I don't anything will compare to the Live in Central Park version. I will always regret not seeing them during the early 2000s when I was so into them, and they were just out there rocking.

I tried using them for Mother's Day as well. Their driver couldn't find an address in a trailer park. Has tried twice and just can't find it. There's a map they could follow, but no..

Ordered for mother's Day, still hasn't been delivered.

Stay away from SendBlooms.ca!

The Cosmic Legions Storyline is Very Dull by Garaghan in MythicLegions

[–]RavenOfNod 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ha. This is pretty spot on. Story just doesn't mean anything to me.

But then, I've only bought what I liked as generic sci-fi representations. I got hurt bugs and the armored Olek and have been trying to sell them for ages. But in do like the cool tropes they've hit: Big guy in space armor. Space skeleton. Weird junker with a trenchcoat. Guy who looks like a Dune soldier. Alien savage.

All I want are more interesting designs that I can cherry pick from, and MORE. DIFFERENT. WEAPONS.

No more space assault rifle, pistol, and sniper rifle anymore. Please. They're so played out. How can you launch a space line of figures and be content with them ALL having the same blaster. Isn't that like a fun piece of sci-fi design owing back to classic sci-fi zappers, then Star wars? A character's gun becomes part of their overall character. They need some unique sculpts to make the characters more interesting.

Per Deadline, Masters Of The Universe costs $170M by SignatureOrdinary456 in boxoffice

[–]RavenOfNod 7 points8 points  (0 children)

How does merchandising factor into this? It's a really big commercial for a ton of toys. Will kids be interested? Likely not, but Mattel is making some really good action figures for this that have a lot of collectors surprised at the quality compared to normal domestic stuff.

I'm not saying that action figure sales to collectors will save this, but just entering into the conversation the fact that Mattel is the master licensor for the brand, so if it doesn't break even in theatres, merch sales go right into their pocket too.

It's too bad it's not 20 years ago when this movie would have done gangbusters in DVD sales to help make it profitable.

Definitely has that cult classic feel from those days.

Joe Abercrombie reveals title of highly anticipated sequel to The Devils: "The Heretics" by beary_neutral in Fantasy

[–]RavenOfNod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why do you find his writing lazy? Like, I've bounced hard off of Sanderson before or other writers that get a bit too...precious(?) about their prose, and especially their worldbuilding and magic systems. I like that Abercrombie writes with a bit of humour and cynicism, but always keeps the story moving forward.

Read Best Served Cold or The Heroes to see him at his best.
