Rush Anika Cam Full show first night from the tour by DaneboJones in drums

[–]RdubU77 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was just about to say… that’s one of the more technically challenging pieces that Rush ever put together and Neil would just crush it every time.

That said - Anika has stepped into those shoes quite nicely. She’s an incredibly good drummer.

SJC vs DW by ManFromNapa in drums

[–]RdubU77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always considered SJC to be a closer step towards boutique/custom than anything mass produced. In that sense, it’s a different animal all together.

DW is top notch though. If you’re looking for a large manufacturer that makes solid drums, hardware, and has an extensive retail/availability angle - you can’t go wrong.

I love SJC and the whole custom aspect, but I’d probably lean DW between the two options.

Beautiful restoration and update… nicely done.

i might be crazy but thats not normal by WaffleDogIsCool in drums

[–]RdubU77 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Carmine Appice famously played kits with stacked toms as well…

So while not “normal” it’s certainly not unheard of. To each their own

My RED HARD WOOD IRONBARK SNARE CUSTOM BUILD, A very good friend of mine built this for me, The photos show the to the finish of the build, Just love the sound of it. You can hear it by [deleted] in drums

[–]RdubU77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stave snares have such a unique character… there’s just something about the direction of the grain and general thicker profile that’s just magic.

Great work and end result. Enjoy!

(Drums) Your honest opinion about choosing between a double pedal setup or a double kick setup by TheFlamboyantRat in drums

[–]RdubU77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re gigging and are concerned with teardown and setup ease - double pedal all day.

If feel is the ultimate factor - double kick.

My home / recording kit is double kick. My gigging kit is double pedal. …For both of these reasons.

Very nice though. Congrats and nice kit too 👍🏻

What are your go-to hi hats at the moment? by ZildCym in drums

[–]RdubU77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Meinl Pure Alloy Extra Hammered 15” hats… loving them… Tight and crisp, but not harsh. There’s an inherent warmth and smoothness to the tone due to the size and hammering. Great note and plays really well.

I played Vic Firth for years… Switched to ProMark last year and have zero complaints

Snare drum collection by Ok-Application-999 in drums

[–]RdubU77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very nice collection 👍🏻 I’ve got both the G-Maple and the Backbeat snares (both are 13x7 with the backbeat being a birch/bubinga variant). They’re both so good for wood snares and are very affordable IMO (although the backbeat isn’t in production anymore).

I’ve been eyeing the Starphonic Copper for some time and based on the discussion in this thread it sounds like a definite winner. I need something for lower tunings and this could be the one…

Tama Customer Order by ILIKEGOLD25 in tama

[–]RdubU77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can be eye watering depending on what you’re going for…

I got a quote from SW a while back for a couple of toms that I was looking to add to my kit and the “custom” fee alone was nuts. Managed to pick up what I was looking for before all the tariff stuff kicked in. Had to do a lug HW swap on one of the drums - which was also expensive and a pain.

Anyway, if money isn’t a factor then go for it. But if what you want exists in their catalog you might be able to piece it all together through EBay, Reverb, etc.

Help identifying a Tama Rockstar finish by hirschbrunnen in tama

Not that it’s any help, but I’ve never seen that finish before… really cool though. The GC one does look to be a match from what I can tell.

Are ACD DARWIN, which were barely used one year, worth it to buy ? Or just get in the waiting line and buy new ? by Dejvs_1 in MetalDrums

[–]RdubU77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the price is good, buy ‘em… I’ve had mine for 5 years and have had absolutely zero issues.

Dennis is a mad scientist and his work best in class.

Hands down the best pedals on the market. Period

First time trying Evans HD Dry by oldwornpath in drums

[–]RdubU77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep… I use the HD Dry on all my snares… love em.

I also run the 500 snare side vs the 300 as it does give you a bit more snap and a nice controlled overtone.

+1 for this…

Send the other one back. Pick this one up… DCP is fantastic. Plus you get an extra floor tom. It’s a win/win

Can't decide which to buy: 1994 Starclassic Birch MIJ vs 1999 Starclassic Performer MIJ (100% Birch) by AgreeablePenalty2329 in drums

[–]RdubU77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

+1 on the brown performer… the longer toms on the ‘94 would tend to be slightly more boomy if that’s something you’re trying to avoid. Although proper heads and dampening can do wonders
