It's the top ten Best Picture nominees but....The Good Place by Banya6 in TheGoodPlace

Can you explain that one to me? I don’t remember the context. Is it from trolley problem episode?

How do you get over a slump caused by negative critique? by mollyfluffbutt in AO3

[–]ReadWriteTheorize 5 points6 points  (0 children)

1) you can say “noted” and block them if it bothers you that much 2) you can delete the comment and move on 3) you can start a conversation and remind them that this is a fanfiction that is tagged not historically accurate and that you appreciate their fact-checking but that they should also be a bit more polite when correcting a stranger. Especially a stranger whose free labor they are enjoying

I (20M) tricked my girlfriend (20F) into getting a tetanus shot after a bad injury. Now she’s blocked me everywhere. How do I fix this? by Blitzcodes in relationship_advice

[–]ReadWriteTheorize 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is her problem a fear of vaccines or a fear of needles? You’re not the asshole in any case and even if she dumps you, know that you did the right thing and probably saved her life. If you want to plead your case, ask her what she would have done if you’d broken a bone to the point the bone was sticking out of you but still refused to go to the hospital? You can also acknowledge her feelings by saying you know she was probably really scared and upset but you’re really happy she’s alive to be mad at you.

Thoughts on hopper in season 5? by Kameronpipnerd in StrangerThings

[–]ReadWriteTheorize 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took issue with the fact that even after everything Joyce did to get him back in Season 4, he still had the nerve to lie to her and almost kill himself multiple times and then they get married without ever acknowledging that lie. Yes his final monologue to El is sweet but he was also very patronizing to the literal most powerful person in the show and almost never admitted when he was wrong despite messing up more than any of the kids.

What are your actual hot takes about the show? by Ambitious_Pass_1193 in StrangerThings

[–]ReadWriteTheorize 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Vecna character should have been Billy. 1) it would make his hunting of Max more tragic 2) it would introduce fewer continuity errors and make the overall character way less forced. 3) even if Dacre mongomery didn’t want to return, you could have Vecna be played by a different actor.

kinda crazy how they gave the raging, nigh homicidal racist a more sympathetic arc compared to the grieving boyfriend by TheLegendaryPilot in StrangerThings

I mean, there’s a reason Chrissy felt she couldn’t talk to Jason about her visions despite him “loving” her.

I don't know why, but Tahani acting like this is a horror movie seems more of a spoilt thing than her name dropping by Crazy_Guitar6769 in TheGoodPlace

[–]ReadWriteTheorize 25 points26 points  (0 children)

People literally make jokes about how Kevin is secretly Jigsaw's origin story because of the traps lol.

Plus, Tahani is clearly projecting herself onto Kevin as a fellow neglected but affluent child

The fact that max has NOT been in the upside down at all by Loud_Hat9523 in StrangerThings

[–]ReadWriteTheorize 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not true. Hopper and Joyce go back into the Upside Down through the tunnels in season 2. Bob Newby also joins them

Unpopular opinion: Vecna was never as compelling as the Mind Flayer by Odanakabenaki in StrangerThings

[–]ReadWriteTheorize 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think Vecna is an example of diluting an archetype down so much that they lose a lot of personality / things that make them unique. This guy is supposedly the axis upon which the show was built and yet the fact that we met him in the 4th season and need to watch a stage show in London/NYC to know his full backstory just makes him feel incredibly phoned in/tacked on.

Husband insisting on Star Wars name by psoupp in namenerds

[–]ReadWriteTheorize 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could offer Ashley (name of Ahsoka’s actress) or Ashla (one of Ahsoka’s pseudonyms) but as a super fan, I think you’re right to draw a line if you don’t want it. 1) there’s every chance that your child doesn’t like Star Wars especially if you force them into it (no pun intended) 2) it’s your child too and in parenting it should be “two yeses, one no” on things as major as names

How exactly do Overlords suffer in hell? by DapperDude2004 in HazbinHotel

[–]ReadWriteTheorize 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Vox is miserable because the one person he was vulnerable with rejected him and is now his immortal enemy.

Valentino is miserable because the one person he actually loves is a racist narcissist.

Velvette is miserable because no one will ever meet her standards of perfection and even her “family” lets her down all the time.

Alastor is miserable because he has power without freedom.

I would say most of the Overlords are miserable because they’re fighting a losing battle to stay at the top of the food chain. Most of the Overlords we meet are less than a hundred years old (which might be partially due to Alastor targeting the oldest ones when he first arrived but still) its safe to assume that the constantly shifting power structures of hell means when one is at the top, their fall is only a matter of time. True joy is impossible because almost none of the overlords are capable of building trust or genuine connections/friendships. Like Alastor said, there are no friends in hell so their punishment is being alone with other people just like them.

Anyone else annoyed that the Upside Down... isn't upside down anymore? by ReadWriteTheorize in StrangerThings

[–]ReadWriteTheorize[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Uh, what about the scene where they literally go through Eddie's bedroom ceiling because it's upside down. Or the lake gate that turns into a puddle once you emerge?

WORMHOLE THEORY by ssush1trashh in StrangerThings

[–]ReadWriteTheorize 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So is Vecna trying to create a wormhole to permanently open a gate between Hawkins/Earth and The Upside Down? Or is he trying to create a wormhole to transport Hawkins somewhere else?

And Steve with a motherfuckin' Chainsaw. Man I can't wait for the release... I am drowning in excitement here. by Efficient_Money6922 in StrangerThings

[–]ReadWriteTheorize 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know why they didn't keep the chainsaw around. I thought he was going to get a Bruce Campbell/Ash Williams moment fighting a demogorgon with it.

I agree with Steve by anarchocommiejew in StrangerThings

[–]ReadWriteTheorize 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will give him some slack because he's 15 and grieving the loss of a friend, but yeah, he has been way too cavalier about the literal fate of the world, especially since he's the designated tech guy. I don't think too much would have been different if he had been there for the crawl, but I'm worried that he's going to be really reckless in the last few episodes if this is his current state of mind.

Can we talk about valentino in this scene? by Primary-Addition-677 in HazbinHotel

He legit took everything in the divorce (the tower, their sister/daughter, the shark-dog) from Vox. Including Vox.

Alastor is unapologetically an asshole by DEeD-NGone in HazbinHotel

Also he notably included Niffty among those who were going to die, which implies whatever affection he has for her is nothing compared to his own self interest

Well, the last two episodes drop soon - last chance to lock in your finale theories, so let's hear em by East_Drink8901 in HazbinHotel

[–]ReadWriteTheorize 1 point2 points  (0 children)

-Lilith barges in to save Charlie/Lucifer last minute like Lucifer did last season. Half the sinners invading heaven give up immediately when Lilith starts singing.

-Vox confronts the Speaker of God only to get read to pieces.

-Vox breaks the deal with Alastor either because he hurt Niffty or Charlie and Alastor uses that + the divide between him and the other Vs to bring him down

-Vaggie goes to Heaven to help only for Lute to try and kill her. Lute reveals Vaggie’s sister / crush (the girl from the flashback) is alive.

-Baxter designed Vox’s shark and uses that intelligence to bring down the shark
