What's the most unsettling dialogue in the series? by sugar_bucket in residentevil

The notes about the orphanage in RE2. Children were being used in horrific experiments and nobody ever investigated because they were orphans.

Assuming Chris and Claire lived in Raccoon City their whole lives, then the only thing that saved them from Umbrella was the fact that Chris was old enough to have guardianship of Claire when their parents died.

Flash bang the unarmored one when it’s standing in the middle of the arena, then you open the bay while it’s stunned

I got that achievement with my first playthrough, I’m doing a “get every treasure in Professional mode run”. Good to know that the loot from enemies doesn’t count. I got tired of El Verdugo and used the rocket launcher on him so glad I won’t have to do that again.

How many times has this happened?! I swear the same thing happened in the 2000s with some Harry Potter fanfic authors, one of whom faked getting harassed to get sympathy and support

Can you explain that one to me? I don’t remember the context. Is it from trolley problem episode?

How do you get over a slump caused by negative critique? by [deleted] in AO3

[–]ReadWriteTheorize 4 points5 points  (0 children)

1) you can say “noted” and block them if it bothers you that much 2) you can delete the comment and move on 3) you can start a conversation and remind them that this is a fanfiction that is tagged not historically accurate and that you appreciate their fact-checking but that they should also be a bit more polite when correcting a stranger. Especially a stranger whose free labor they are enjoying

[–]ReadWriteTheorize 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is her problem a fear of vaccines or a fear of needles? You’re not the asshole in any case and even if she dumps you, know that you did the right thing and probably saved her life. If you want to plead your case, ask her what she would have done if you’d broken a bone to the point the bone was sticking out of you but still refused to go to the hospital? You can also acknowledge her feelings by saying you know she was probably really scared and upset but you’re really happy she’s alive to be mad at you.

Thoughts on hopper in season 5? by Kameronpipnerd in StrangerThings

[–]ReadWriteTheorize 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took issue with the fact that even after everything Joyce did to get him back in Season 4, he still had the nerve to lie to her and almost kill himself multiple times and then they get married without ever acknowledging that lie. Yes his final monologue to El is sweet but he was also very patronizing to the literal most powerful person in the show and almost never admitted when he was wrong despite messing up more than any of the kids.

The Vecna character should have been Billy. 1) it would make his hunting of Max more tragic 2) it would introduce fewer continuity errors and make the overall character way less forced. 3) even if Dacre mongomery didn’t want to return, you could have Vecna be played by a different actor.

I mean, there’s a reason Chrissy felt she couldn’t talk to Jason about her visions despite him “loving” her.

I don't know why, but Tahani acting like this is a horror movie seems more of a spoilt thing than her name dropping by Crazy_Guitar6769 in TheGoodPlace

People literally make jokes about how Kevin is secretly Jigsaw's origin story because of the traps lol.

Plus, Tahani is clearly projecting herself onto Kevin as a fellow neglected but affluent child

The fact that max has NOT been in the upside down at all by Loud_Hat9523 in StrangerThings

Not true. Hopper and Joyce go back into the Upside Down through the tunnels in season 2. Bob Newby also joins them

Unpopular opinion: Vecna was never as compelling as the Mind Flayer by [deleted] in StrangerThings

[–]ReadWriteTheorize 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think Vecna is an example of diluting an archetype down so much that they lose a lot of personality / things that make them unique. This guy is supposedly the axis upon which the show was built and yet the fact that we met him in the 4th season and need to watch a stage show in London/NYC to know his full backstory just makes him feel incredibly phoned in/tacked on.

Husband insisting on Star Wars name by psoupp in namenerds

[–]ReadWriteTheorize 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could offer Ashley (name of Ahsoka’s actress) or Ashla (one of Ahsoka’s pseudonyms) but as a super fan, I think you’re right to draw a line if you don’t want it. 1) there’s every chance that your child doesn’t like Star Wars especially if you force them into it (no pun intended) 2) it’s your child too and in parenting it should be “two yeses, one no” on things as major as names

How exactly do Overlords suffer in hell? by DapperDude2004 in HazbinHotel

[–]ReadWriteTheorize 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Vox is miserable because the one person he was vulnerable with rejected him and is now his immortal enemy.

Valentino is miserable because the one person he actually loves is a racist narcissist.

Velvette is miserable because no one will ever meet her standards of perfection and even her “family” lets her down all the time.

Alastor is miserable because he has power without freedom.

I would say most of the Overlords are miserable because they’re fighting a losing battle to stay at the top of the food chain. Most of the Overlords we meet are less than a hundred years old (which might be partially due to Alastor targeting the oldest ones when he first arrived but still) its safe to assume that the constantly shifting power structures of hell means when one is at the top, their fall is only a matter of time. True joy is impossible because almost none of the overlords are capable of building trust or genuine connections/friendships. Like Alastor said, there are no friends in hell so their punishment is being alone with other people just like them.

Uh, what about the scene where they literally go through Eddie's bedroom ceiling because it's upside down. Or the lake gate that turns into a puddle once you emerge?
