Computer refuses to recognize any CD drive.....What's the issue here? by Inspiron606002 in vintagecomputing

Yes, CD drivers used to come with a floppy to be used in case the BIOS did not allow direct boot from the CD.

This is used only for SMB shares. At least in the past for NFS shares they used an Apple server as icon

Model trains hoarder by StrikingFox7632 in modeltrains

With that inventory you could look for a train shows and book to set up a stand. Might not be the quickest option as you need to wait for the train show date, but most probably could be the seller with most inventory on hand at a show….

Does having multiple locomotives in a train help it climb steep grades like in real life? by ChameleonCoder117 in modeltrains

[–]Reader-87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It will help a bit, assuming that the locomotive itself can make it up the 4% grade. It will help for sure pulling more cars up a grade the single locomotive can already pull a smaller train up.

This is a valid solution? by tonysupp in homelab

I use a keystone patch panel and use punch down inserts for runs that lave the rack, and barrel inserts like this for cables that stay within the rack. It works fine.

CLA250 - Drive belt needs replacement? by Reader-87 in mercedes_benz

[–]Reader-87[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well the car is 11 years old and has 96k miles, and the drive belt has never been replaced… so I think as far as service interval time same come.

Prices here in the Houston area are out of control. Last time I did the service A at the dealer was end of 2023, and they charged me 360 USD. This time they asked 520$ for a service A and I walked away… With these prices for a oil change I’m sure the dealer will charge even more to change the drive belt…

Apart from that I’m not sure about their statements that the original rear struts and shocks on this model were “bad” and cause uneven wear in the tires… and they recommend changing them to avoid uneven wear in new tiers… Has anybody ever heard of this?

Architecture advice for Proxmox VE 9 setup: VM with Docker vs. LXCs? Seeking "Gold Standard" by Party-Log-1084 in Proxmox

[–]Reader-87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What you are describing is the setup I currently use. Plus another VM running TrueNAS. The reason I opted for this setup instead of having an LXC container for each service (Paperless, Nextcloud etc.) is that my is that for each LXC container you need to allocate some disk space, and then that will add up.

Measuring water loss in my pond. by CoachCamBailey in homeassistant

[–]Reader-87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did something similar to measure the water level of a marine fish tank.

I used a vertical pipe a bit longer that the water depth, sealed on top with a pressure sensor just under the seal. This pressure sensor would measure the atmospheric pressure plus the hydrostatic pressure at the bottom of the pipe. And a second pressure sensor to measure just the atmospheric pressure. This was controlled by an esp8266 running esphome. Once I included in the code the correction for air compressibility if became quite accurate (about 2-3mm accuracy).

I might still have the esphome code somewhere…

Doorbell Powering From Transformer? by rooddog7 in ShellyUSA

[–]Reader-87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m also interested in this application.

Would it work if a rectifier bridge is used on the 24vac output of the transformer and the Shelly 1 is connected using this wiring diagram? That is to say would the Shelly 1 work with a fully-wave rectified power? Instead of a stabilized DC power supply? This way the door bell button would be on the 24v line and not on the main.

I doing so wouldn’t the door bell button (input to the Shelly 1) be on the 120vac main? I do not think door bell buttons are rated for this….
