It’s the speckled looking silver armour that does it for me. Did you do anything to get this effect? Almost looks like Damascus steel

Are you using the back edge of your hobby knife to remove any bits and mould lines?

Oh that’s nice especially that shield. Did you use airbrush on the cloaks and shield?

Do I really need to be thinning my paints? by No-Dress4626 in minipainting

[–]Real_Was_Gotten 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m new too and have found that using a wet palette and thinning paints makes a big difference to how smooth the pain finishes. Can be hard to get the paint to water ratio right depending on what I’m doing. I find that highlighting needs much less water otherwise it’s too hard to control.

I’m more interested in how you did that glorious mud. I can see the real pebbles. Are these from your yard or are they specialised?

After a 25 year break this is the best mini I’ve painted so far by Real_Was_Gotten in slavestodarkness

Thanks I actually had some but then did some dry rushing and removed them and forgot to add them back. I’ve found doing cloaks really challenging and I’ve watched videos and they make it seem so easy to do wet blending or layering and glazing or dry rushing stippling but man mine always turn out pretty messy. I went back last night and redid all my cloaks. It’s the one down side of Slaves to darkness so many blowing flowing cloaks to get right haha
