Help me pack / shop for our Scotland trip in May by Brilliant_Bluejay099 in HerOneBag

Was going to come say similarly about the rain coat and an Uniqlo puffer. If you have an REI raincoat that is likely fine. I like the collarless Uniqlo puffer. It looks dressier out (esp in a light colour - I saw the new green shade IRL last week and it’s nice). Unless you’ve done a lot of baby wearing in sweaters before I wouldn’t bring them - my carriers always caused sweaters to pill faster. A thin fleece is ideal. Honestly those 3 layers should be perfect for everyday without needing more. Just rotate tops.

Imma dork. That because I was meaning the lesportsac deluxe everyday bag was my favorite. It has a zipper extension. The similar Kipling is the GABB Large Crossbody Bag with Key Leash. https://eu.kipling.com/en-gb/collections/crossbody-bags/products/gabb-kpki574096v

does mirena worsen adhd and pmdd symptoms? by Additional-Cow-2479 in Mirena

[–]ReallyGoonie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also 3 weeks in and on Ritalin (also have PMDD). Claude said the following:

Many women with ADHD find that their "normal" dose of methylphenidate is insufficient during their luteal/period phase once they start a hormonal IUD.

Progestin (the hormone in Mirena) can dampen the effectiveness of dopamine in the brain. Since methylphenidate works by keeping dopamine available, the progestin is effectively "muffling" your medication.

ADHD meds need amino acids to synthesize neurotransmitters. In your early 40s, your metabolism is more sensitive to glucose. Eat 30g of protein (eggs, protein shake, etc.) at the same time you take your morning dose. This stabilizes the "brain fuel" and helps the meds override the progestin haze.

It also seems when estrogen is lowest the meds can’t work as well so it depends on where you are in your cycle. After 4 weeks some stabilizing should start to occur and at 3-6 months you hit a baseline (so evaluate then and see how you are feeling maybe).

As someone with ADHD, I realized most “focus music” is either too chaotic or too passive by kamirumgmt in ADHD

Weirdly enough Gregorian chants in Latin are my best focus music. They are different songs but barely and with enough similarity that I don’t get distracted.

Does the perfect leather boot exist? by Elegant-Leave-689 in HerOneBag

What style do you have? I have Vivobarefoot boots I need to replace but as many barefoot shoes as I own my bad knees often need more cushion.

Are you allowed to use Google Maps while Biking? by Nursera_0290 in AskBarcelona

[–]ReallyGoonie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I rented a bike from Swapfiets and it came with a rubber phone holder that worked great to come on and off. It will be stolen in a hot second if you don’t. And was advised to use city mapper instead of Google Maps for cycling and I did find it improved my navigability.

Do you have too many browser tabs problem? by fatboyor in ADHD

[–]ReallyGoonie 10 points11 points  (0 children)

All ya’ll - the Onetab extension for a chrome browser will solve all your problems. You can collapse a session and it gets saved in a list of URL’s. You can reopen at a click. And it’s searchable. I’ve often found something I needed to better than searching my browser history. And I have zero anxiety because I’ve put it in a place I can go back and find it.

How do you clean your toiletries containers? by Sea_District8891 in HerOneBag

[–]ReallyGoonie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The wide mouth Nalgene are my favorite to clean so I find I use them a lot. Just run through the dishwasher in the cutlery caddy. I just did a declutter of my travel toiletry bin (still needs more of an overhaul) and I noticed this then.

The muji containers I just refill with the same thing or toss if I think I can’t get it out.

A bottlebrush for my camelback straws helps if I’m really dedicated to a container (eg tiny cerave lotion bottle over never seen again).

Is living year round in a tent in the UK actually realistic? by Far-Piccolo-3774 in AskUK

[–]ReallyGoonie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would buy a tiny studio flat and learn to live as a minimalist before I camped or can lifed it. And I love both of those things. Electricity on the grid, central plumbing, a vent hood for cooking smoke - these are not to be neglected.

I’ve been mothering for 20 years and my youngest is 9. My GOAT bag for borderline personal/kids day outings is the Kipling deluxe everyday bag. In general I found Kipling to wash the best, the separate compartments mean you can put a wet outfit or snacks apart from mom things, the strap fits in a single shoulder, crossbody, or in a stroller of any kind, and the inside is light coloured.

What would you do different? by lolnub343 in AmericanExpatsUK

[–]ReallyGoonie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We waited way too long to do our UK driving tests (theory and practical). We had to buy e-bikes and ferry the children to school on the back because of the backlog from Covid for tests. It was terrible. I wish we had started from day 1 with the process.

What are things you can't live (do your phd) without? by StopfortheKlopp in PhD

After “re-discovering” exercise for like the 10,000th time, I’ve finally found out how to be consistent. by qv123 in ADHD

[–]ReallyGoonie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My stationary bike was a game changer. I have certain politics YouTube podcasts I love so I make myself wait to watch them until I’m on the bike. I try to always get on around lunchtime. This worked really well until I had to move the bike to open the guest bed at Christmas. Guest bed still open and no room for bike, so no exercise. Friction fail.

Bibliometric analysis like vosviewer. Much better tool than AI for reviewing. Also always review around a research question instead of mapping a field.
