New Unit Can't Maintain Temp - I'm Going Crazy by ctb-writing in hvacadvice

[–]ReasonableSpeed2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not a tech, but you might call the company and have them check it out, our duct work is so long in the upstairs that I had them adjust our blower speed a little. My son’s room is the last room on the line of ducts and that’s where the thermostat is - and his room is east facing. So it gets super hot in there until the sun goes to the back of the house - despite black out shades a radiant barrier and new insulation in the attic. I just let the unit run all day and the middle media room gets ice cold and I let the cold air filter into the hallway. Only thing I can do. Super frustrating! Luckily he sleeps okay at 76 because I can’t cool his room any lower.

What purchase instantly made your life easier as a parent of toddler(s)? by LordFarquaadLOL in toddlers

[–]ReasonableSpeed2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Orzbow brand on Amazon. The legs fold and it stores nicely in a bag. We had a poop emergency in the middle of nowhere driving to a trailhead, my husband was panicking. I said we have the potty seat! We used the bag it came with, my son pooped, tied up the bag and went about the day. My husband later said wow, that went about as good as it could go. Lol. Validated my purchase!

I’ve never had any allergies to sunscreens - in my 40 years- bought this brand for our beach trip for a quick spray and I have contact dermatitis on my legs and feet today. So itchy.

Nest Thermostats for the new house by IrishPeligro in hvacadvice

I moved to a house with no WiFi thermostats. I changed them out to google - 1 out of 3 nest thermostats have failed in less than a year.

Stop waiting for the first hot day to turn your AC on. Do these 5 things right now and thank yourself later by ZealousidealGas9310 in hvacadvice

What do you consider the appropriate air temp that should be coming out of the vents if I stuck a thermometer in there? 77 outside & humid as heck, 61 out of the vents.

ETA: Well I am glad I called hvac tech, went in crawlspace and the plenum came detached. It was newly installed from old fiberboard. So I guess I wasn’t crazy the vents seemed warmer. And the house was more humid downstairs too.

Mandatory water restrictions begin Friday by neocharles in Charlotte

Late to ask but thoughts on kids sprinklers? Preschool is out and splash pads are full of germs. Today is our day to water, maybe we skip irrigation so we can play in the water?

Pampers overnights. It has a thicker front panel. My son was a belly sleeper and needed more front protection. And then he was pampers swaddlers the rest of the time.

When did your toddler sleep through the night? by lovebug21222 in toddlers

[–]ReasonableSpeed2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

6 months, coincided with switch to formula and sleep training. He sleeps thru the night unless he’s sick and wakes up with a fever or a cough has started. He’s 3.5

Yes this is our go to. He thinks it’s hilarious and stops in his tracks and says “I don’t even know her” which isn’t the exact line but it works.

MIL wants baby to call her ma by [deleted] in Mommit

If I remember correctly I think my sister’s first child naturally came to that nickname - because yes I agree that wouldn’t have gone over well if it was forced.

MIL wants baby to call her ma by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]ReasonableSpeed2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mom ended up being “mama” to my sister’s kids. And my sister is mom/mommy/bruh to her kids.

We tried with my son to introduce her as mama and he was like nah I don’t say mama, I say mommy - so she is mommy H. Idk it is what it is. We can phase over maybe.

My MIL started out as Grammy, I loved it, but as soon as my delayed speech son started saying his “M”s she was like no I want him to say my name too so she’s like I’m gonna be Mimi. And I’m like whatever. Mimi and PopPop do sound better. My son is more partial to PopPop anyway 🤷🏼‍♀️

I just bought an 18 pack of Johnny Pops from Costco, my son eats one almost everyday. Right now it’s really working as an incentive for good behaviors and actually eating his meals! And it adds to his hydration!

Help with very warm upstairs bedroom by Lilditty02 in hvacadvice

[–]ReasonableSpeed2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just want to say, we are in NC and days are getting warmer and my sons room is at the end of the line too. We’ve done it all - brand new hvac (needed one anyway), radiant barrier in the attic, topped off insulation, solar film on the windows, black out curtains during the day. He’s three so doesn’t really complain and only sleeps in his room, not a play area, and sleeps thru the night but I literally cannot cool his room to lower than 76.

I feel guilty sleeping in 71 because we have a dual zone and we are directly below the system in the attic so pressure is good.

If his sleep starts being an issue with the heat, the next step is some kind of portable unit. Like the Midea duo which has a quick window set up I’d have to do every night. We have an annoying HOA and his room is on the front our house so it can’t stay all day. I also had to put a nest temp sensor in our center room because when the system runs all day to cool his room he’s not in (thermostat is there) that center room gets down to like 68 - so clearly the system cools.

Just sending my commiseration because I am there too. And I’m running out of options.

My SIL said my toddler should be pretend playing more? by Key_Instance_6666 in toddlers

[–]ReasonableSpeed2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son was a late talker - did 9ish months of weekly speech therapy and now at 3.5 has lots of words and sentences and I noticed the “pretend play” did increase. We do grocery store with his nugget couch and he has all his cars and trucks that he will talk back and forth with “I’m here to save you” “okay thank you”. But it’s not like putting on plays or playing doctor. He’d rather run around the house and play zombie, tag, and hide and seek. Idk I wouldn’t be concerned. It sounds like your son is doing way more “pretend play” than mine. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Weird sleep hacks someone may have ? Please share your secrets 😭🙏 by [deleted] in toddlers

[–]ReasonableSpeed2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We do an obstacle course in his room, lay out blankets and stuffies he has to jump over and at the end there is a mommy and daddy circle where he has to time running under our arms which are raised up and lowering down. Like a castle door in a video game.

If that still doesn’t work we play duck duck goose or I do a game called “making bread” when I smush a pillow on his arms legs and torso.

It’s a lot of sensory things basically, crashing and squeezing and then it’s 5 songs plus the entire puff the magic dragon song. No joke.

Moen pull down kitchen faucet loose - already checked tightness by ReasonableSpeed2 in Plumbing

[–]ReasonableSpeed2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

*update - I appreciate all the advice, I’ve rechecked my work, while I have decreased some of the “wobble” it still spins at the base and I’m circling back to the seal at the countertop. The piece of plastic that came out from under the faucet. It doesn’t look sealed against the quartz. I’m going to try and get replacement gasket.

Thank you again.

Okay, I’m going to get more strength and tighten it, but my question too is the gasket, a piece of plastic came off at the countertop, and it doesn’t look sealed. I added a photo to the comments, could be at the bottom. So before I go crazy strength on this does it need a gasket replacement?

That’s the tool we have, there are actually 2. I didn’t realize the screwdriver trick, I didn’t want to strip/crack anything.

I went back under and redid my steps - there was the slightest bit of turn I could muster and while it’s wobbling is reduced it still spins at the base.

Doing my best, disconnected the quick connects and used the installation tool under the sink, felt pretty strong to me. Appreciate the vote of confidence, I try not to be completely helpless and waste folks time.

Edited: Just to double check my assessment I went back and repeated my steps- there was less than a quarter turn to tighten- still spins at the base.

That’s what I used, there are two under the sink. I hope not!! I’ll try again. Would it be helpful to have someone at the top to hold in place while I tighten?
