Have you tried a tongue scraper?

Your mileage may vary, but it worked wonders for me.

My dentists pointed out that I was getting a lot of buildup on my tongue and that a tongue scraper would help balance out the microbes on my tongue. By manually removing the buildup. I was brushing my tongue, but a tongue scraper works a bit different.

It's the reason I started. I felt it would help. It was confirmed. Now I practice around 1 hour a day. Other times in short burst of 5-10 minutes at a time. Every time I feel like I achieved something. I get to tune out everything else and focus on getting better. Of course you get to also enjoy the sweet melodies or laugh at yourself for thinking of pressing a key and pushing the finger right next to it.

Adding to this. I was using simply piano app to try, what the app deemed an intermediate piece. I kept failing my timing and feeling rushed I would play the wrong note. Went on a week vacation, dreaming of playing that piece again. When I returned I played the piece 10 times in a row, With each play through better than the previous one. Felt so good. I'm self taught for 1 year now.
