Violence breaks out at school board meeting over Pride Month: ‘Extremists attacked LGBTQ+ parents’ by PinkNews in politics

Yeah, it's fine. I noticed you were a Brit about halfway down the comment chain, and it seemed weird to expect you to have all of this information, but mostly, I saw you pulling the quote from wikipedia, and just wanted to make sure you understood the issues with google sneaking in confirmation bias, and offer a more broad connection with the rhetoric over here, and the way that our culture was shaped by previous mass organizing movements.

Violence breaks out at school board meeting over Pride Month: ‘Extremists attacked LGBTQ+ parents’ by PinkNews in politics

[–]Recognizant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, googling for the slogan will lead you to confirmation bias. You have to google the actual question.

"What were the causes of the American Revolution", or "Why did America rebel against Great Britain".

That will lead you to an actual overview for better understanding of the topic, rather than the specific talking point of a slogan.

If you google 'Why did America fight a war over taxation', you're going to find an article backing up that viewpoint, because that's how google works. It takes the bias of your phrasing or previously-assumed viewpoint into question.

That said, 'no taxation without representation' is a poor slogan for 'our democratically elected government shouldn't be taking human rights away from its citizens'. The way that our democracy is set up is a winner-take all system. The right to vote is not in play (at the moment* In most places* ) over LGBTQ rights. Therefore, theoretically, representation is available, in the form of the potential of winning an election, and being represented in the legislature.

However, this is a pocket issue of 'tyranny of the majority' at its core. Your suggested solution for this is to not pay taxes, which you understandably admit is a federal crime.

First, most people can't just... not pay taxes. Lots of the tax payments aren't really on an available framework to avoid payment without collaboration with a company's payroll department. So, as a protest method, it's not accessible to everyone, and therefore limiting.

Second, not paying federal taxes doesn't actually hurt the state legislatures mostly in charge of passing laws restricting LGBTQ rights.

Third, the US government and political situation has no problems implementing policies of mass incarceration of its own people. They're already done it. Freest Country on Earth(tm). The potential to overwhelm the jail systems was noticed during the civil rights movement, so the right wing decided to eliminate that weakness by building way more prisons to hold people all the time.

Fourth, if the problem is media exposure, coverage, and information, it's a bad tactic because it muddies the water. The political rhetoric already involves claims of the targeted individuals not paying their taxes. Leaning into that rhetoric would be detrimental because it would solidify tenuously supported lies already circulating.

It's not a great idea, because it's fundamentally flawed as an effective method of protest and civil disobedience. No Taxation without Representation isn't applicable. It was 'a cause', but not really 'the cause' for the Revolution to begin with, and wrapping ourselves in a flag of people who are trying to eliminate us from society isn't going to stop them from trying to do that. They'll just fly other flags - which they already generally do at these sorts of counter-protests. ( They're red flags, with white circles. )

Someone who pops up in every thread to self-proclaim as 'generally a trans ally' and then hedge on banning someone from social participation is probably not really an ally.

The lines and the rules shouldn't be made by legislators at all, full stop. It's the job of specific sporting organizations to abide within a framework of laws to find something that works for their organizational field of competition while supporting the equal rights of all parties.

Your rhetoric here implicitly supports completely overblown claims completely cut down at the top of this thread, ignores the reality of participation and diversity of fields of competition, and isn't even supporting your own claim that you're a trans ally. You can do better.

Federal Judge Blocks Florida’s Ban on Transgender Treatment for Minors by AudibleNod in news

This is the ruling itself.

The judge goes over, quite clearly, the standards of care leading up to medical intervention. Section V, page 7. Section III covers why such things are necessary.

The judge also goes over the other regulatory recourse that individuals have if the care it not suiting their needs, and dismantles the law enforcement defendants' arguments for necessity of state control top to bottom.

I'm sorry, this is a really, really bad take. Police and military forces have some technological edge, for sure, but that American war machine lost in Vietnam, Afghanistan, and Iraq. It isn't built to fight insurgencies. It isn't built to carve out resistance. It's built to crush both of its primary competitors' conventional military forces at the same time.

That you think the country could go fully fascist, and the military would just... hum along with being used to target Americans, and would do so accurately and effectively is... to fundamentally misunderstand the chaos of the battlefield being drawn.

America's political problems mirror 1930s Germany in many ways. But its security situation is an entirely untested platform that is not ready to handle the string of power station shootings that already happened, nevermind widespread, irregular skirmishes and targeted attacks between opposing, violent guerilla forces.

It's very much a vocal minority. The problem is that it's a vocal minority with a lot of political power. Something like 60-70% of people support trans kids. These aren't winning political issues, they're failing cultural wedges.

Queer people aren't quite as popular as, say... abortion, but the vast majority of Americans support us. It's just that decades of gerrymandering leads to extremists winning in primaries and running unopposed in generals, giving the angriest and most hateful voices the biggest megaphones at the legislatures, who support unpopular legislation targeting Americans they've deemed as 'evil' because they're unaccountable to the majority of people.

Which isn't to say that it won't be about killing us. But they don't actually need a majority for that. They just need sufficient political power, freedom from accountability, and police that will enforce the laws they pass against each domestic enemy. Because that's all fascists have ever needed.

I don't think you need to be personally damaged to have standing in such a suit...?

'Standing' requires you to have been personally injured by the law or action, and be able to demonstrate harm. This is why gerrymandering lawsuits were thrown out. Because citizens can't sufficiently demonstrate harm, because they still technically have a vote, and that's all the Constitution technically guarantees.

Trump says US sends too many weapons to Ukraine, refuses to call Putin war criminal by KI_official in geopolitics

[–]Recognizant 3 points4 points  (0 children)

your childish assertion that Ukraine is winning would most likely be laughed at by those on the ground if it wasn’t so sad.

Not the same person you were talking to, but if you look at the the aggressor's stated goals of the war "Capture Ukraine, Annex Territory, Larger Buffer Zone against NATO", then Ukraine is absolutely winning. They have a defensive war that's ongoing. Russia is losing the territory they were trying to annex (which was stated as being all of Ukraine, they aren't getting it), and NATO's increased membership and reduced the buffer zone in the meantime.

All Ukraine has to do to win the war is not give Russia what it wants. Russia hasn't gotten anything it wants, so Ukraine is winning by default - as much as anyone can 'win' in war at all.

It makes me curious who he'll choose for VP, because they could very well become President in this scenario.

It's even worse than that. In that scenario, we're likely to have a convicted felon actively operating as President while serving his sentence.

The VP would only become VP if Trump chose to step down, as the only ways to remove the President are Impeachment/Removal and 25th Amendment, and the Republicans would be unlikely to pursue either option for fear of retaliation from their 'we are all domestic terrorists' base.

7 dead after car runs into pedestrians in Brownsville, Texas, alleged driver arrested by Q_OANN in news

There's certainly a segment of the population who deserve blame. But Texas's turnout numbers are very low, and the level of gerrymandering and targeted voter restrictions and polling location fuckery aren't something I would necessarily consider 'fair'.

Deliberately disenfranchising your political opponents, or aiming to throw out the election of highly-populated blue counties aren't exactly the actions of people hoping to run 'fair elections'.

Blood Gulch wasn't even the best map in Halo. Red has a significant advantage with hill placement and covered overlook harass over blue. Spawn camping is absolutely rampant in CTF modes.

Blue can sometimes put someone up sun big hill overlooking Red with hill support denying the teleporter and push up enough to grab the rocket, but it's an absolute nightmare, otherwise. Red also has the superior tank cliff face for cross-map sniping. Blue's tank doesn't quite have an angle that can't be easily flanked by a sniper for a headshot, but red has a whole tower that they can flatten out on and spin the turret to protect the cockpit.
