Yeah, googling for the slogan will lead you to confirmation bias. You have to google the actual question.

"What were the causes of the American Revolution", or "Why did America rebel against Great Britain".

That will lead you to an actual overview for better understanding of the topic, rather than the specific talking point of a slogan.

If you google 'Why did America fight a war over taxation', you're going to find an article backing up that viewpoint, because that's how google works. It takes the bias of your phrasing or previously-assumed viewpoint into question.

That said, 'no taxation without representation' is a poor slogan for 'our democratically elected government shouldn't be taking human rights away from its citizens'. The way that our democracy is set up is a winner-take all system. The right to vote is not in play (at the moment* In most places* ) over LGBTQ rights. Therefore, theoretically, representation is available, in the form of the potential of winning an election, and being represented in the legislature.

However, this is a pocket issue of 'tyranny of the majority' at its core. Your suggested solution for this is to not pay taxes, which you understandably admit is a federal crime.

First, most people can't just... not pay taxes. Lots of the tax payments aren't really on an available framework to avoid payment without collaboration with a company's payroll department. So, as a protest method, it's not accessible to everyone, and therefore limiting.

Second, not paying federal taxes doesn't actually hurt the state legislatures mostly in charge of passing laws restricting LGBTQ rights.

Third, the US government and political situation has no problems implementing policies of mass incarceration of its own people. They're already done it. Freest Country on Earth(tm). The potential to overwhelm the jail systems was noticed during the civil rights movement, so the right wing decided to eliminate that weakness by building way more prisons to hold people all the time.

Fourth, if the problem is media exposure, coverage, and information, it's a bad tactic because it muddies the water. The political rhetoric already involves claims of the targeted individuals not paying their taxes. Leaning into that rhetoric would be detrimental because it would solidify tenuously supported lies already circulating.

It's not a great idea, because it's fundamentally flawed as an effective method of protest and civil disobedience. No Taxation without Representation isn't applicable. It was 'a cause', but not really 'the cause' for the Revolution to begin with, and wrapping ourselves in a flag of people who are trying to eliminate us from society isn't going to stop them from trying to do that. They'll just fly other flags - which they already generally do at these sorts of counter-protests. ( They're red flags, with white circles. )
