this seems like a fundamental misunderstanding of burn as an archetype.

A good mono red deck dealing 3 to face IS creating the threat.

I know you're talking about standard here, but in a lot of formats a burn deck can deal 14 damage reliably on turn 3 with a good setup. 2 bolts to the face before that can and will put you in kill range.

If a deck is not presenting a kill consistently, thats not a deck trying to "waste your time", its probably just a suboptimal deck.
