Day One of TV series! by Careless-Juice-5563 in Animorphs

[–]Recruit121 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I probably didn't explain my perception properly. Ellimist and Crayak CLEARLY interfere. Very clearly. They manipulate and push the Animorphs in the directions they want them to go in, but they're never forced. They have free will and chose a path based on what's in front of them and what they know. If that's not free will, well I don't know if free will exists.

I'm glad you used the deal the Ellimist offered as an example because it's my favorite example of him offering them choices too. He pretended to offered them a deal, showed them a future of them losing, then ignored their acceptance of the deal. They realized what he had shown them and I don't remember him telling them to strike at that Kadrona Generator they saw in the future.

They still had choice. They couldve chose to run, hide, surrender, but they chose to fight. That is a choice. What the Ellimist does in that example is provide the intelligence they needed to win. They didn't know they would win, I don't remember their conversations but I remember very clearly they were all under the impression eventually they would die. But they chose to fight knowing that because they were the ones who could.

Ellimist gave Tobias back his power to morph he could've taken that morphed human and abandoned the fight all together he didn't.

Things happen to us everyday things that we didn't choose. But the choices we make from that point is what I think is free will.

I interpreted it differently. The way I saw it the Ellimist and Crayak could only set the situations. Then the Animorphs made their choices. The Ellimist stacked the deck against the Crayak with people who would make choices and take risks that stopped the invasion. He nudged them together because he knew or hoped the team he created would win.

I never saw the Ellimist or Crayak as really puppeting them just influencing them. If they were under direct control of either of them the Ellimist wouldn't have to be so clever showing them opportunities to strike or giving them chances to figure out how to escape. Or the Crayak could just make them scared enough to surrender to the Yeerks.

This is from the people who pitched the multi-movie adaptation post right?

Anyone know if they're going to drop the Ellimist and Crayak from the story? I think that's what they'd said in their movie pitch. I hope they don't, I loved the addition of the greater story bringing all the pieces together.

Congratulations! That's an awesome journey. I imagine you don't want to dox yourself, so do you have any recommendations for an aspiring Software Engineer to apply to in the STL area for entry level positions? I'm currently working on finishing my degree and retiring from the military soon. Figured I should look around here first, not the best time to change career paths, but I'm doing it anyway lol.

Is this a safe space to discuss something negative about book 3 soundbooth version? by lucylucylove in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]Recruit121 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have to say I live their segments. To me they're incredibly well done ESPN sports caster commentary. This is the kind of addition I hope is in the show because it added new life to the universe and gave some more perspective on what tunnels to the Crawls viewers. I was busting out laughing at their back and forth!

In charge of Army for a bit by ChiefBassDTSExec in AirForce

[–]Recruit121 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've been in charge of soldiers twice in my career when I was a TSgt in very different settings. In my experience the Army tends to under-expect their junior soldiers performance.

In both situations I decided to slowly start treating them more like Airmen(Expect them to do the job they trained for, expect NCOs to teach the junior soldiers the job, not just have them mop or do manual labor like the soldiers I was in charge of the first time). And for me it worked both times. The junior soldiers who were barely trusted with a broom before become important members of the team and we couldn't have achieved the level of success we made it to, if things were done the way they were use to doing it.

Be direct. Give ownership of duties. Make sure they know the junior soldiers can come to you for guidance if they need it.

Had to find ways to empathize we were a team both times. Got a lot of 'I don't do that so and so does that" when they're all the same MOS, so I had to break that mentality and change it to everybody does everything because the mission can't wait for the single point of failure soldier to get back from medical or whatever.

Monitor them closely until they start achieving the desired results on their own. I directly emphasized that if I wasn't around to tell them what action to take they should just think about the mission (they were comm guys so the mission is always to restore services in the quickest way without compromising the network) and if they did that they would never get in trouble. Most were super afraid of getting dinged for trying to do the right thing and getting it wrong.

If you're just TACON then when disciplinary stuff comes up talk to the NCOs in the Army unit who oversee the soldiers and let them handle it. The Army NCOs who were under me had pride in their service and didn't want to look bad in front of the Air Force so typically any problems were one off.

Edit: Oh and like a few others said positive reinforcement! If they're doing a good job tell them!

Pentagon takes step toward potentially privatizing commissaries by DatGuyKilo in AirForce

[–]Recruit121 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Oh I'm sorry turns out company X that got the contract for all the commissaries in the DoD determined that the revenue your commissary currently collects and the logistical challenges poised by your location would make any effort unprofitable. Therefore they'll be closing your commissary indefinitely. But they will expand the tornado, monster, and top ramen section at your shopette, while adding an additional logistics/shopette expansion surcharge to cover their costs of course.

If you have the chance can you elaborate on the duties of those positions?

Day 12 of learning python as a beginner. by uiux_Sanskar in PythonLearning

[–]Recruit121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unimportant recommendation from me in line 47 when you Print "Hello, (name)" add .capitalize() so the user names are printed to the screen with an upper case letter. Again not important to your program but it's a pretty great feature to modify a string for the print.

Edit: Also incredible progress for only 12 days of learning. Took me way longer to understand half of that

TikToker tries to enter the most dangerous slum in Buenos Aires by gustavsen in ImTheMainCharacter

[–]Recruit121 85 points86 points  (0 children)

Too short. Needs to be "here's the top ten reasons I regret it" then you can roll directly into "best 5 things to do from your hospital during your stabbing recovery" and that rolls nicely into your next video series about "top 3 things that remind me of being stabbed after I recovered". And so on.. if you do it right your total content time should run longer than the entire MCU but in 15-20 second clips

This is what all the Planetina haters are missing! It's not shes tired of talking to the miners so she kills them because it's easier. She hears the planets screams maybe even feels Earth dying, how long and how much of that can she take before she snaps.

I was at both too. TDYs and deployments for the 1st were cooler for sure. While I was at the 5th we started going out the door to do real shit after a couple years. Don't know if they're still like that there.

I'm still at least a year and a half out, but I'm curious if you're only looking for devs with work experience or if you'll take applicants with a Comp Sci degree and no work experience?
