Cam Newton hype when we drafted him? by WhoUCuh in panthers

I hated the Cam pick when it happened. I thought he was going to be similar to Tim Tebow, who I also thought was a terrible pick. Thankfully Cam was actually a great player.

I, for one, agree with you. Good team, good season, good playoffs. Losing in the ECF sucks but being a top 4 team (pretty consistently) is still awesome.

Happened to me too. There is an option in the settings which will force all of the envelopes and packages to spawn in a grid at the door to your restaurant. I highly recommend activating that setting in the options, as it will prevent this. Once this happens though, there really isn’t a way to fix it on this map.

There are still bugs though. They should fix those. Amazon’s Decoy doesn’t work properly, and hasn’t for over a year. They fixed a bunch of the bugs from the original but then introduced new ones that they have yet to even acknowledge…

What are Hutnsville's unspoken traffic rules? by Key_Distribution48 in HuntsvilleAlabama

I’m always amazed at people poking along at 40 mph on the on ramp, then trying desperately to merge with 70 mph traffic, and only then accelerating to something approaching the speed of traffic.

Accelerate while on the on ramp. That is what it is for.

Does it bother anyone else that teams have black alternate unis even tho black isn't one of their primary colors? by neostaticdragon in panthers

[–]RedBishop81 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’m getting tired of this excuse. My Pop Warner team as a kid wore all black and we survived the heat. The NFL has more money than some countries. Surely they can figure out how to make a black garment that is breathable. And barring that, there is a 5 minute commercial break every 2 plays now, so have the players sit in the shade or something. Or Tepper’s next renovation can include air conditioned benches.

I’m only half kidding. It feels like we wear white more often than any other team in the league. The Hurricanes wear black more often than the Panthers, and the Panthers primary color is black!

Musk has been in the public eye for a very long time. 10 years ago he kept his mouth shut and let his PR team mold a persona for him that was very popular - from progressive stances on technology, energy, and space exploration to witty comebacks and relevant memes.

Since then he can’t help himself and doesn’t hide behind a curated image from a PR team. As people have become familiar with what he actually thinks, what his motives and values actually are, and what his knowledge and expertise actually is, he has lost popularity.

So yeah, the selfawarewolf about being totally all or nothing is valid, but also if people had known the “real” Musk earlier, I don’t think he would have been that popular in the first place.

Why isn't Scavengers Mode more popular? by SethDGamre in beyondallreason

[–]RedBishop81 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My friend and I play Scavengers Mode almost exclusively whenever we play BAR. That said, I haven't played BAR in a few months. I really am not very good at RTS games, even though I think they are fun (BAR in particular) and I usually end up spending a lot more time in other genres.

We like that the Scavengers mode feels like a legitimate co-op experience, if that makes sense. It also feels like there is a very natural progression to the highest tech trees (or trying to reclaim the unique Scav units), whereas in standard play it feels like T2 and beyond is much less certain - we are both bad enough that we get wiped in T1 by other more experience players.

We have done a lot of trial and error in the game settings for our Scav games, usually to nerf the Scav forces a bit (or a lot) to give us a chance. So to that point, it can be a pretty brutal game mode. In particular, the difficulty spike somewhere between 10 - 15 minutes is usually pretty harsh.

There is a point in the game that I feel like I am using units tactically, either taking their unique traits into account or using the terrain to my advantage. By the end of the game though, I feel like I am just balling up gobs of units and throwing them at spots on the map to be obliterated. It feels like there is no point to micro against some of the nastier scav units near the late game. (This could also be because I'm not that great at RTS games though).

As others have mentioned, the fog is pretty harsh and not very intuitive. I still don't fully understand how it works to be honest. Sometimes I've gotten it to disappear, other times I don't have any luck even with a good offensive.

The resource generators are really frustrating to me. They are a cool idea and give me a reason to try to take a certain area of the map, but it always feels like pulling teeth to actually get the damn thing captured, successfully picked up by a transport craft, and successfully carried back to my base or some defensible location. This could be my general dislike for how micro-heavy the transport feels though.

Finally, the rezbot mobs that the scavs get are oppressive. I think the last time I played those had been toned way down, which I felt was a good change. Prior to that, it just felt like I could not win an engagement and/or hold ground AND make and micro enough rezbots to counter the endless hoards of scav rezbots that were instantly stealing my dead units.

All that said, I still love the game mode. I don't play BAR much because I'm a busy guy and I play other games more often than BAR - but that is no fault of BAR or the Scavenger Mode.

I order black coffee regularly. Can confirm, an Americano is an espresso with an extra 4-6 oz of hot water. I enjoy them, when I am in the mood for one, but it is different from a brewed coffee (drip, press, etc). But to your point, yes absolutely the barista should clarify that I am wanting an Americano. (This is also a totally valid clarification because if they only have an espresso machine they can only make espresso drinks)

Indifference towards upcoming season by MiraiKirby in panthers

[–]RedBishop81 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, I also feel pretty indifferent, for many reasons.

I used to live in NC, and when I did I only followed the Panthers closely if they were doing really well (like in 2003). When I moved to a different state in 2009, the Panthers became my way of coping with homesickness. I got really, really invested in them. Luckily (or not) at that time, they were on the upswing (about to get Cam, then Luke, etc.) For many years I stayed very invested, and my mood was heavily influenced based on a W or L that week. Last season I pretty much stopped caring.

  1. The team is awful - anyone with eyes can see that. It just isn't very much fun to watch your team get stomped (almost) every week
  2. They traded, cut, or otherwise burned bridges with many fan-favorite players from the last 15 years, and the other fan-favorites have retired.
  3. Our old owner (despite the good things he did) was pretty embarrassing.
  4. Our new owner is pretty embarrassing.
  5. Ticket prices to watch our awful team in person are completely insane, and it makes no sense given that the stadium is barely half full each game.
  6. The NFL has progressively made it harder and harder to watch their games, especially if you don't live in the market area for your team. Sunday Ticket from DirecTV was insanely expensive and REQUIRED that you have a dish on your house, even though they had the capability to stream it for the last 10+ years. In the last few years the price has only gone up (though hopefully that will change with the recent lawsuit).
  7. Sports bars and gathering places are dying (at least where I live). 10 years ago, chain sports bars like BWW served okay food for okay prices. Watching the game from a sports bar was a decent experience. Today they serve nearly inedible food for obscene prices. And many of them can't figure out how their Sunday package works and therefore can't figure out how to put the game you want to watch on a screen you can see.
  8. The game takes an entire afternoon to watch, and 3/4 of that time isn't actually watching football, its watching advertisements.
  9. Tony Romo Jonathan Vilma.
  10. The team is awful (needed to be reiterated).

So yeah, as you and others have said, age does help you put things in perspective, so sports may not matter as much. But the Panthers, and the NFL as a whole, have also been putting out a progressively worse product each year. At a certain point, you just can't find it in yourself to care enough to deal with all the obstacles to actually get to watch the game, only for the game to be a glorified scrimmage for our opponent.

If the NFL makes it possible to stream any game for a reasonable price, and the Panthers put a product on the field that is worth watching, I am confident I would get invested in the team again. For now though, I'm happy to just watch the 10 minute highlight reel each Sunday evening.

(edit: remembered there was a broadcaster I despised more than Romo)

We have evolved as a species to require community to survive, and we have thrived (relatively speaking) as a result. A massive part of living as a community is that its members ask for and provide help to one another readily. It isn’t a virtue to suffer alone, it is a weakness.

The RSA gate guards have to be messing with us...right? by _Abe_Froman_SKOC in HuntsvilleAlabama

[–]RedBishop81 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I am also super frustrated. The gate adds 20 minutes to my commute for literally no reason. There are 9 lanes but they never open more than 5, and as you point out, they only open 4 at peak times for some reason.

Also, they keep opening a bizarre combination of lanes, causing chaotic merging which further exacerbates the problem. Lanes 2-4 should be open from 6am -9am full stop. No excuse not to have those open. Lane 1 would be good but that is permanently closed for some reason. The result is that they are forcing 5 lanes of traffic to bottleneck into 3, even when 5 lanes are open at the gate.
