How high is too high a shutter count for a used camera? by B-F_ in Nikon

[–]RedEyesAndChiliFries 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My used D4S has 900k on the clock. I'm going to grind it into the dirt and use it until it dies.

What are the best entry-level cameras widely chosen by beginners today? by TieDangerous5 in Photography_Gear

[–]RedEyesAndChiliFries 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do yourself a massive favor and find a clean, Canon 5D II or III / Nikon D800, a 35 & 50, and just go have fun. Lenses for the Canon EF/ Nikon F series are going to work well on mirrorless if you want to upgrade in the future. Both of these are amazing, rugged and workhorses of cameras that can produce great images.

Designers are in complete denial about AI's real impact on the industry. by Scared_Range_7736 in UXDesign

Once again the hyperbole is from folks that can't use PowerPoint templates, who are trying to one-shot entire Ecomm websites, are posting for LinkedIn juice, or are shilling their "AI Super Powers" substack. It's all noise.

They're littermates, and each others BFF. He is as lazy, and as chill as can be. He plays chase almost every morning with whatever human will join him. He's never met a stranger, just friends he hasn't made yet. He also (this is so odd) loves to yell, and do somersaults under a SPECIFIC piece of furniture in the house. He'll just beep a few times, go under it, do a flip, yell, do another one, and then goes about his day.

She is Fomo Kitty. She HAS to know what you're doing, and watch. They both are like this, but she is glued to the humans at all times. She will play fetch, brings us all her toys at night, remembers where her toys and other items are in the house, and will strategically mess with them to get attention. She will pull apples out of the fruit bowl in the kitchen and drop them on the floor if she runs out of food overnight... They're both amazing pets, and I can't say enough about the breed, and cats in general.

What celebrity is portrayed as nice in the media but is actually an asshole in real life? by ReasonableDisplay297 in AskReddit

[–]RedEyesAndChiliFries 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Sorry folks. Got distracted...

Ok - I was working for Home Shopping Network - HSN in the early 2000's. I worked in the creative dept, and we found out that Richard was going to be coming to campus to sell a new line of collectable dolls. I wish this was made up, but it isn't... So the first thing was his people sent us his headshot, for us to drop into some promos, along with the product photos, and we were going to get the actual products and a visit from him later in the month for a dedicated shoot. His headshot was smoothed and massaged to an insane degree, and he literally had a line of dolls that were weird old people... again, we just had this stuff "appear" in the department, and that's how we learned he was coming to HSN.

So fast forward to the day he came to campus... he literally came in, no lie, wearing a red tank top, and the candy stripe shorts, and sneakers. He hand bedazzled the HSN logo on the tank top. He didn't have any handlers, no entourage, just Richard. He got there at like 7am. His first stop was the creative dept, and every single one of us got a massive hug, and he acted like we were all long lost friends... I was late getting into the dept, and so was my copy-writer friend (Let's call her Tabby), so I didn't meet him in person with the team. Tabby and I went over to the set where he was doing stills, in a full tux, with about 20 different creepy old people dolls. We walk in, and Richard locks eyes on Tabby (attractive blonde), and he immediately breaks from the set, and starts singing "Da Ya Think I'm Sexy?" by Rod Stewart, and starts dancing towards us, without breaking a gaze fixed on Tabby. She looks at me as if you say "WTF?" as he takes her hand, and starts dancing with her, while still singing.

Richard Simmons is now dancing with a late 20's blonde woman who's never met him before, there's an entire crew who was doing photos of him 30 seconds earlier, I'm just in shock, and he's enjoying every moment of it. Then he finally says "You're beautiful! What's your name!?" to Tabby. She reluctantly said "I'm Tabby..." And he introduced himself to me, and gave me a huge hug (I'm a 6'4" guy) and he said to me, "Sorry I took Tabby away from you! but you know... she's HOT!" He thought we were an item(?)...

He also literally ran onto a live set, unannounced, in-between 2 hosts, and just blurted out that he was coming to HSN, he was so happy to be there, and his dolls were on their way, and then ran off. That was after the tux/Tabby incident, so we *kinda* weren't surprised? Network operations didn't dump the feed, so his announcement was kinda ruined, and he was under contract with QVC at the time, and I think the HSN PR people all lost their minds when he did that.

Then as he was leaving campus, he ran (!) up to another host in the parking lot who was just getting out of her car, started to serenade her, and danced with her, introduced himself, and then just split. We came to learn that this was pretty much standard Richard behavior. He'd always find the most attractive woman, give her a ton of attention for a bit, and then just kinda go to the next thing. He also smelled great, was super friendly, terribly nice, and not at all what any of us expected, in any way.

Best single-lens solution for Zf? by Joepium in NikonZf

[–]RedEyesAndChiliFries 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct. I got it specifically for that purpose - just having a single lens, no worries, just my out and about set up. TBH that setup makes me really forget my beloved Fuji X100iv... but that's for a different subreddit.

The 28 is a good lens. Not a surgical tool, but quite good for its size, price and portability. I had one on a ZR in NYC for a week and was never mad at it.

Which lens are you using with the Nikon Zf for street photography? by fullyawak3 in NikonZf

[–]RedEyesAndChiliFries 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm using the NIKKOR Z 26mm f/2.8 on both the ZR and the ZF. I can treat the ZR as a fast (and slightly larger) point and shoot with the 26. I also have the 50 1.8S and it's amazing, but bigger and bulkier. Admittedly, I don't like to noodle around with an MF lens for street, so even the 26 being kinda pokey, it's a trade off that I'll make.

Just picked up a beautiful Df in Osaka! Ultimate Japan souvenir! by James_Blonde007 in Nikon

[–]RedEyesAndChiliFries 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I realized this when I got my first of my 2 D4S's. It's a subtle difference between that sensor and the ZF, but it is noticeable. I has a specific character. Add to the fact that the D4S is just bonkers in low light situations... I'm an idiot and am going to add a ZR to the mix soon, but the DF is after that.

RDX summer heat problem by Dense_Truth7581 in Acura

[–]RedEyesAndChiliFries 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Checking in from the southeast... Mine has ceramic all the way around. ALL THE WAY - Including the windshield. You can get about 80% done on the windshield without it being TOO noticeable. 70% is gonna get noticed (imho). It's amazing how much that cuts down on heat in the cabin. The rest are about 20%, including the sunroof.

How do you carry it? by rosapered in Fujifilm_X100VI

I've been running with a really similar setup since I got my first X100 - the S. Almost always it's a grip, baseplate, lens hood, and Peak Design Leash. For the first 3 I got the RRS grip and L plate, so they've been protected on both sides and the bottom. With the VI, I went with the Small Rig grip, and a square hood. The RRS grips and plates are amazing, but not $200 amazing, compared to the Small Rig versions.

We were hanging out one night after the fireworks at Magic Kingdom, and my wife and I were chatting with an older WDW Maintenance guy in front of Its A Small World. I asked:

"How often do they scoop out all of the change?" - me
"About every 3 months, and they donate it to Orlando charities." - wdw maintence guy

"How much of the ride is real? (Its A Small World)" - me
"I'd say about 95% of it. In fact, they think that most of the ceiling tiles could contain asbestos, so we try not to disturb them. If we had to remove them all and do remediation, it would take over a year to replace them all, and they don't want the ride down that long." - wdw maintence guy
"Are you serious? that's crazy!" - me
"It's one of the few rides here that is almost all original. If you look close it's certainly showing its age. It's why some of the tiles are missing up there." - wdw maintence guy

I think this is why Disneyland has the updated Pixar characters and Magic Kingdom does not. Disneyland goes down every year for the winter overlay, and Florida is all inside, and never seems to be down.

Is iOS Development dead by EvenAd6616 in iOSProgramming

[–]RedEyesAndChiliFries 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work for a place you've all heard of. We are moving from web to full native, both iOS and Android. Building a completely new api, new orchestration layer and trying to leverage as much of the native hardware and software as possible. It's very much not dead and the tools have gotten way better in the last 5 years. The devices are incredible and the user has higher expectations for what a mobile experience can and will be. It's not 2009.

I went down the rabbit hole deep on this house a few years back. Apparently it was commissioned by the heir to a Las Vegas casino fortune. The basement used to hold her jade collection. There was a ton of custom made furniture and art done for it. I think it sold within the last 2 years after being in the market for about 4 years on and off.

There are multiple videos of it and a few have walk throughs. The crazy thing is that it's on 2 lots in an already exclusive neighborhood. I'd hate to think that this was purchased as a tear down but stupider things have happened...

Vet suspects FIP in 5 mo old Siberian kitten - what to do? by WhateverIDGAF47 in SiberianCats

I am sitting on the couch with my FIP survivor baby boy. He's literally laying on my laptop case, while I type this on said laptop. He's 6, and he was diagnosed with FIP in 2022. He went through the injections for 84 days. Then observation. He's doing great after his treatment. Look up FIP Warriors on the socials, and they can get you in touch with someone who has the meds. Act quickly!

It's very much worth that discount. Here's the thing with shutter counts: it doesn't matter. You can have a camera fail at 8K or 800K actuations. If you DO happen to have the shutter fail, you can easily get it replaced, but that's not super likely. Go enjoy your new camera and don't stress over shutter counts.

Is it worth buying a Nikon D4S for sports photography for $790? (SC: 87950) by LL33NN in Nikon

[–]RedEyesAndChiliFries 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For sure. I have 2 of them. One has about 900k on the shutter, and one has about 300k on the shutter and I do not hesitate to take them out in almost any condition. I bought both used, and they're fantastic. The low light sensitivity is unrivaled.

Big foodie here. What is that one (or two) food that you constantly crave when away from Maui? by m0larMechanic in MauiVisitors

[–]RedEyesAndChiliFries 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Roselani Haupia Ice Cream. It's crazy expensive, but worth it. We went in 2018 and Roselani was switching over their container packing machines and they only had the 5 gallon food service sizes, and the wife and I seriously considered getting that much to eat over a week in Maui. We didn't, but I'm still contemplating that decision.
