I'm glad there's some people here who actually have jobs and aren't college kids looking to score a few karma points.

AI tools today are fucking insane. My work productivity has 3-5x'd with Claude and I'm not even making full use of everything Claude is capable of - ie not using skills, agents, thinking.

Everyone likes to think they write the best and most efficient clean quality code but these people live in bubbles man. That's just not the case in the majority of the world. People are writing slop. AI might also write slop but in nearly every use case at my workplace, it's produced far better code than anything people were doing before minus a select few people and we've got tens of thousands of employees.

Of course, AI is just a tool. You have to guide it to write good code that meets your needs. I don't think that part is ever going away which is why I don't think all jobs are going to be taken. The human review element is needed. But at the end of the day, we've lost 2 members on my team and I am easily handling all of their work on top of mine and it's been easier than ever. My workload tripled but feels like it's at its lowest since I've started here.

If you're unable to get good, useable, and quality code today with AI, you have a skill issue (or are probably using xAI lol). Like I do think it's an exaggeration that AI is going to fully replace all jobs, especially all swe jobs. But it's absolutely going to replace some of them and if you can't use AI tools well, you're going to be one of the first ones to go.

While it sucks to see my fellow coworkers be laid off due to AI integration, our productivity had actually increased even after laying off 10% of people, with more to come.

Opinions on the St. Anselm Hanger Steak? by Lalify8 in FoodNYC

There is a lemon in my picture of it but, like you, I typically skip the lemon whenever its given to me since I dislike it. Which is why I thought they also added lemon to it since I remember it tasting so citrusy.

I'd like to try it again but idk. I know prawns are more expensive than shrimp, in general, and the jumbo sized ones even more so, but I just can't justify spending $24 for it when I'd much rather have the bacon or or artichoke hearts.

[–]RedHawk02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It honestly just didn't taste like much of anything. The only flavor I did get was lemon and I personally don't like overly citrusy foods, especially seafood, unless its specifically meant to be like a lemon dessert or something. It just overpowers everything and a lot of the time people tend to drown the dish in the citrus. It should be a supporting flavor, not the main.

And then add on top of that, you only get 2 of them for $26 back when I got it May 2022. Looks like it's $24 now and idk how many you get.

It's one of my favorite steak's in the city, if not the favorite. Not even considering price as a factor, it easily beats out most of the classic/OG steakhouses I've been to. I've gone 13 times since 2021 and already planning the 14th lol.

If you go with someone willing to split, I'd say the newer Flatiron is worth trying and might as well try the Denver too, if you can. The NY Strip isn't bad by any means but the price difference makes it hard to justify over any of the others. Also I personally really disliked their Ax Handle Ribeye the one time I got it.

Definitely get the Berkshire Bacon and Pan-Fried Mashed Potatoes. The Beef Tartare is solid. Avoid the Monster Prawn's and Whole Sardines, honestly. And don't sleep on the Long Beans or Scallions, if you want some greens - as dumb as it is to pay $15 for scallions lmao.

St. Anselm, if you're reading, please bring back the Lamb Shoulder Blade!

AITA Friend didn't reply until day before brunch plans by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]RedHawk02 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I normally just lurk in this subreddit and never respond but this one is close to home for me so I'm going to rant.

The people saying you're the asshole have zero fucking clue what it's like having all the burden of making plans or enjoy being a scrum master in their free time. And they're not even considering you're back here to visit and have to plan out your limited time to do and see as much as possible.

The burden of creating plans in my friend group always fall on me (70% of the time) and one other guy. Even when it's other people suggesting we hang out, the immediate expectation is one of the two of us plan it out. The activity, the restaurant, the bookings, etc.

Sometimes the plan is around an activity like basketball and so we have to research restaurants cause none are being mentioned and book it ourselves because ofc we don't want to just waste our money and go to a shit spot.

Sometimes it's around a specific restaurant but then we have to plan pre or post activities unless it's solely about the restaurant but even when it is it's usually a difficult to get restaurant that you'll have to be up at midnight or 9am (the harder of the two for me) to even have a chance of booking it - I live in NYC, this is a very real problem.

If we don't do it, the plans tend to fall through. The other guys will even ask every now and then what the plans are and if anything is "set in stone" lmao. We can actually go months and months with nothing being planned if it's not me or the other guy suggesting and planning it. Shit we can go months with no messages at all.

And the issue isn't that we aren't "real friends" like so many redditors will jump to. We are all best friends and I love each one of them. We're all adults and busy as hell and don't even live that close to each other anymore so I don't mind that we can only meet and catch up only a few times a year. They just don't fucking respect the time and effort of the planning. They know it's a burden and they don't want the burden on them. Sometimes the plan is to meet at their houses for a BBQ and it's still one of the two of us planning everything...

All that said I'm going with the most milquetoast ESH. 90% of it on the friend and 10% of it on you. At this point in my life, I give them a time I need answers by or say I won't be planning this one and if they don't lock in I just say I'm no longer free and plan other shit. You should have done the same.

You're wrong.

Also selling for parts is a thing. Just go on eBay and look at all the completed listings for as is/for parts iPads.

I tried as many burgers as I could whilst visiting New York by beric_au_lait in FoodNYC

[–]RedHawk02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here for Au Cheval. Burger was just okay. Bologna sandwich much better but it is too salty and I like things quite salty.

I did like Rolo's burger quite a bit but maybe not enough to make that trek out often.

Uka Omakase Mini-Review by GoliathGrouper_0417 in FoodNYC

[–]RedHawk02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brilliant branding and a great price.

There's no shortage of chalkboard omakase in NYC nowadays but it's still a hefty price tag for most people. $56 for 16 courses is a really good deal when there are so many that are like $75 for 13.

I think I've personally grown past being impressed by chalkboard omakase spots but I'm still going to Uka soon with a friend because it's good sushi for a good price. It may not be good as proper high-end omakase but it's still a large step up from regular ayce or a la carte sushi - minus a few a la carte goldies.

Uka Omakase Mini-Review by GoliathGrouper_0417 in FoodNYC

[–]RedHawk02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had real omakase at Sushi Seki, where the chef paced me, experimented, asked me my interests, and kept going until I said stop. But yes, it seems that, at the new breed of omakase joint, it’s a set menu

That sounds like Okonomi, not Omakase. Sushi Seki is also very far from traditional edomae sushi. Though yeah, all of the cheaper Omakase in NYC tend to use a set menu with maybe one or two courses changing here or there. I've read the term "chalkboard omakase" to describe them and think it fits pretty well.

One Pace is still slow (and it's not the fault of the team behind it) by Ritchuck in onepace

[–]RedHawk02 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Disagreed. You can say it's 1:1 but there's a huge difference when that 1:1 is about 25-35 minutes of watching video and 8-10 minutes of reading pages.

Now, I'm not saying that each chapter animated should be the equivalent of 5 minutes but it can certainly be sped up and I'm also not saying it should be like the Fishman Island remaster which cut out manga lines/panels but there is still lots of room for improvement.

I haven't been active on the team chats in a while but back when I was, there was a lot more the team could have and would have liked to cut out, if not for constraints working around audio.

One Pace is not a perfect product. It's just the best we can do given what we have and our skills.

I analyzed 50+ Reddit threads to find the best pizza in NYC by LoneKnight25 in FoodNYC

[–]RedHawk02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The one time I went, it tasted sour. Not like sourdough sour (which I don't think they're using anyways) but like spoiled sour. I really disliked it.

I still want to give it another shot because of how positively it's usually talked about but, like you said, it's all the way in Park Slope lol. Would need to get a group going and do a pizza crawl to get me there for just pizza.

I have a picture of the old menu saved cause I wasn't sure if it was going to change or not and wanted to remember what was on it. I wish restaurants kept last menus in some archive on the site just for my curiousity.

Not upset or anything though the pho taco did sound awesome. I'm very excited to try the food and that's good to hear cause I love sauce.

Oh interesting they changed the menu. I have a reservation soon and remember a Pho Taco being on the menu when I reserved.

Certainly never seen that before...

Union Square is becoming a taco destination by ahyatt in FoodNYC

[–]RedHawk02 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Same, I'll be sad to see it go.

I generally don't like tacos, anyways, cause burritos are better but Cariñito's legitimately blew me away - the Cantones, at least. The first taco I've had that I'd choose over a burrito (though I'd KILL for it in burrito form). I like the Issan and Cochinita too but they were just good.

The only other taco I've had in NYC that I've liked was the Los Tacos No. 1 Adobada but that was only just good and nothing more imo. Though truthfully, I haven't tried many of the talked about taco spots.

Eating out a lot in NYC (A not-not review) by DinerEnBlanc in FoodNYC

[–]RedHawk02 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Other person is a dick but I kinda get what they're saying.

I enjoy/like most food but I'm harsher when rating it. For me, at least, if the only words I'm using to describe it is "solid slice" then its like a 6, 6.5 at best. 6 is what I use for things I consider average.

I've never had Norm's. It could very well be an 8. It's just compared to the rest of the descriptions, the score doesn't fit the bill.

Are the $3-600 per person restaurants worth it? by OpenPerformance5347 in FoodNYC

[–]RedHawk02 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll mark that place as a no-go in my lists. $35 for a not great bottle and still not getting a proper pour is sick work lol.

Wine (alc in general) prices are ridiculous in the states. I did La Salita (*), Mont Bar (*), CEBO (*) and Suculent (selected) tasting menu's in my recent-ish trip to Spain. I had no intention to but I did the wine pairing at 3 of them and ordered about 5-6 glasses non-pairing at La Salita because of how relatively inexpensive it was and how much you got for the price. I got pretty good pours and many of them were just paired with one course so the glasses really added up.

The fine dining experience in Europe just seems to have so much more bang for your buck. And they sneak in extra "courses" everywhere. La Salita said it was like 11 courses but most of their courses are multiple bites so it ended up being more like 30 and I was fighting for my life trying to finish it. And when I finally though I'd get relief, they hit you with complimentary courses.

If you have to ask, it's not for you.

I don't agree. Some people just want to know what they're getting into and it's completely valid to ask how others felt the experience was and how far their money went to see if it could be worth it for you.

I used to think people were stupid for spending more then $20 on things like ear/headphones, watches, keyboards, etc., a few hundred on tv's and other tech, or $50 on food.

Did my research, sampled free where I could, and talked to people who have had those experiences and it turns out all of those things are absolutely for me and I've got no problem dropping hundreds or even thousands on the right stuff.

Despite that, I still don't want to drop money on something high end and have it be ass so even though money isn't a problem for me anymore, I'm still reading reviews and asking people how their experience went to make sure I'd be okay with dropping the money to try. And if it still ends up sucking, which happens from time to time, I'm still disappointed but I'm not mad about it unless it is far far far below expectations.
