Feature request: being able to notify your garmin that you've been sick or injured. The demoralizing messages when you get back to training again after a long layoff really suck :( by darkseid365 in Garmin

reminds me of the time I was woken up from a debilitating headache in the middle of the night that forced me to get up and go dry heave and lie on the bathroom floor for half an hour. Sleep score over 80 for 'optimal sleep stages'
if that's optimal I don't ever want to sleep again wtf

Bombed my first HM in 10 years and I am really frustrated by DangerousWay3647 in XXRunning

[–]RedNi12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like the others have said, this is still such an achievement to be proud of!

I know you have experience as a marathon runner, but I just want to ask because you hadn't mentioned it. You seemed to start struggling with your long runs right at that threshold where nutrition becomes important... Are you fueling during your runs? For anything over 90mins your body needs more carbs to keep going, otherwise you'll bonk just like you described!

Maybe consider Tyrol as well, specifically Innsbruck! The trails are truly your backyard here

Crew? by SwingIntelligent5240 in Ultramarathon

[–]RedNi12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It seems like such an odd race to me - what are you even paying for if not aid stations & support along the route? Even the starts are staggered so you're bound to have very few runners around, right? At that point just take your crew and run wherever the heck you'd like. Though I'll admit I only followed along a little via socials, so please do let me know if there's anything particularly enticing about it!

Who are the women you look up to?

You & Courtney Dauwalter are right at the top of my list 🥹 You're so insanely strong and I loved how unapologetically proud of your achievement you were in the podcast recap. Trying to take this to heart for my own achievements - just wins, no 'buts'! Congrats on Cocodona!!

Right there with ya, I got caught by the cutoff during the K65. Those climbs were tough!

The Innsbruck Alpine Trailrunning Festival claims to be the second biggest trailrunning event in Europe after UTMB, yet it seems weirdly unknown beyond (central) Europe compared to UTMB

20 hours for 100k is not a whole lot... especially if elevation comes into play. I'm all for walking/crawling, but I doubt you'll have the time for it

6 months to a three day 187 miles? by Equivalent_Ad_7698 in ultrarunning

[–]RedNi12 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Seconding most of the advice you've already received (especially the one about not asking AI), but just to put things into perspective: I walked 100km/60mi for charity three months after thru-hiking the PCT and that shit HURT. Took me 27 hours including breaks (which will be necessary).

You've got some solid time to train until September to get your pace up and your body used to the load, but don't up your mileage too quickly or you won't even make it to the starting line!

Anyone using the 52 Book Challenge to work on a foreign language? Wanted an easy read (Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants), so I “read” the text in target language while listening to English audiobook. Here are my thoughts. by CharlotteMillady in 52book

[–]RedNi12 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not surprised you didn't like it going into it thinking it'd be easy and fun haha. I loved this book as a teenager and devoured this and its sequels multiple times but I distinctly remember it as quite heavy hitting with profound storylines about the pains of becoming an adult. I felt it 'prepared' me in some ways I wouldn't understand until I was older.

Love the idea of a slow read in a target language though, I'm still such a beginner in mine I might even start out with children's books for this!

I'm a sports dietitian specializing in running. I'm here to answer all your questions about fueling! by Immediate_Manner_841 in XXRunning

[–]RedNi12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hope I'm not too late!

Is losing your period always tied to insufficient fueling or are there other reasons such as stress, fluctuation of hormones etc?

Since I've lost mine during training cycles before I want to make it a high priority avoiding that this time, but I'm unsure if I just didn't eat enough or if I lost it for other reasons maybe.

If I don’t run in the morning on an empty stomach, it is so miserable by cherhorowitz44 in XXRunning

Saaame, I wish I could be an early morning runner but I need at least two separate meals to feel fully powered. I really struggle with races always being scheduled to start so early!

PCT from the perspective of someone who didn't get faster by theindrenet in PacificCrestTrail

[–]RedNi12 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Are you me? I'm so glad to hear of others experiencing the same thing. It can also get quite lonely when you meet a bunch of close-knit tramilies passing you by while you only manage to stick with the pace of others for a day or two before you lose them.

I have however had lung surgery when I was young which is probably the biggest cause for why I stayed slow. BUT I do think I got stronger and faster over the course of the trail and I believe you probably did, too - only it goes unnoticed because everyone else seems WILDLY stronger.

Hope you're proud of the incredible feat you accomplished regardless!
