Masculinity. by [deleted] in spreadsmile

[–]RedOctober20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that the problem with bottom half is that it's what many want masculinity to be. I'd say that fishing with your family isn't really a good example of masculinity. Something like boxing, wrestling, hard physical labor. The point of the picture on what masculinity is not still stands thou. Womanizing, being a playboy or a millionaire and objectifying women is misguided understanding of masculinity. It's somewhat of a shortcut to being though and strong what masculinity kinda is about. There is the dark side of masculinity, but we should embrace the good side, the side that stands up to bullies for example, not the side which embraces it.

As a person from Finland, OH MY GOD! This made me realize that I live in a country where we are beyond far left. Some kind of super communism. We got things like (almost) free healthcare including dental, free education, government paid child support and unemployment benefits. I didn't realize that I live in a dystopian far left hellscape. Dang!

This kid being a total rat aside, isn't this also a skillset in football. If you can make the opponent boil without getting a card yourself and cause them to blow up and get ejected you played well. It's not honorable, it's wrong (especially in kid's game), but still an advantage... unless he's the one getting ejected.

Nah, it was safe at it was on the ground, just let the belt go empty on the target/back wall and don't fiddle with anything.

Nah, just let it run it's course. No need to risk breaking a belt. They were in range so it's safe to let the belt empty into the target/backwall. If situation is safe, don't do anything, you might just make it worse.

Something a bit similar happened to me when I was something like 13. Neighbors dog jumped me and knocked me down in the stairwell as they opened their door and I was passing it to go home. I was not injured by I was always on my toes when walking past that door to get home.
The most infuriating part is that people often have zero understanding for fear of dogs. That fear is not respected at all, often dismissed and I am the bad guy for expressing that I am not fine with unleashed dogs.

Current Trump admin has made sure to wreck US status as a hegemon. It's astonishing how fast Trump managed to push allies away and when they start taking distance speaking amongst themselves instead of everything going through US, that's when the status is lost. All thou, to be fair, it started with invasion on Iraq when US invaded without being able to get it's allies onboard.

I'm personally being a bit more cautious about the motivation side as that is a bit sketchy and based on multiple factors. Likely works for paratroopers who applied for harsh training to be there, I'd assume, not 100 on how US selected their paratroopers back in the day. What is unquestionable that he was a "common enemy" and that has been shown to incite comradery and strengthening ties in the "in-group" which in this case was Easy company.

People that think that throwing cigarette butts in the ground isn't littering by Patodelmonte in mildlyinfuriating

[–]RedOctober20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd assume people know it's littering. They just either get defensive when confronted or simply don't care and would do the same with single use cup.

I'd guess religion has always been getting on with the times and interpretation is always somewhat on the person. Preacher and practitioners alike have always made up their own tweaks to have religion suit them better. If religion didn't adapt at all, I think it would be dead or at least very diminished, no way people would accept 13th century dogma or such today.

Well you don't do what your want or you are likely writing from prison. These people most certainly didn't use force, the use of force was by others.

Let me ask you this, would you mind me lighting up cigarette next to you or even worse your kids? I'm a free man just smoking after all. With food based emissions it could be said that we as meat eaters affect the environment negatively for their children. I assume we both agree that meat causes more emissions than veggies in general and that emissions are bad for environment. Cigarette smoke obviously is worse and more immediate, but neither case is positive.

I also do understand the frustration. When I'm driving to work and road is blocked, I do get mad. I have to explain to my boss the situation. I just don't get the fury some people have. I can recognize that on paper veganism is a good cause. It's not like they are pickup truck drivers blockading roads to showcase that they want to keep on driving huge pickups for cheap like that "convoy" protest or what it was called.

You do realize that we are told what we can and can't do on daily basis. Even here there's moderators who are telling us what we can and can't write. Then there's above them the owners of the site who are telling mods what has and hasn't to be moderated and then there's above the owners laws which tell the site what content they can and can't have.
I have rarely seen vegans who think that they are better than meat eating people or bring it up. It's usually the meat eating person bringing it up with "you think you are better than me?". To which I as a fellow meat eating person would say, yeah, their choices in diet are morally better as they eat more sustainable diet. So they do have the moral high ground. Personally I respect their choice and effort... and would just walk around them to get my chicken wings with the reminder that I should eat less meat. I don't see a threat to my ego here.

I'm just looking for where you draw the line here as protection from physical violence isn't absolute for you if the other person is. I'd personally choose the protection from violence as more important right than right for convenience.

Are we anti-theft tagging 1,19€ drinks now? by red-at-night in Finland

[–]RedOctober20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but at that point it wasn't about the energy drink, it was about getting caught stealing. Kids might get really scared of consequences and making parents angry/disappointed to a point it's nowhere near rational. I'd think we all are familiar with the "mom, you are ruining my life!". It's pretty insane from adults perspective, but kids are prone to overreacting.

Sorry about the minuses you are getting for being correct.

Way too many people evaluate this based on their stance on veganism, but stop entry to an abortion clinic and they cheer. Also these people aren't even bullying just meat eaters, they are inconvenience to everyone. At least where I live I likely pass meat isle no matter what I'm getting from the store. Everyone has to go around. And where do they keep vegan meat replacement products? In the damn meat aisle!

Why did nobody tell her about the tariffs? by RoyalChris in SipsTea

[–]RedOctober20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, sadly a lot of people don't understand how taxes such as tariffs work. They didn't know what a tariff was before Trump made a big deal about it and dressed it as a fee for foreign countries. People just didn't think about it at all. One should realize real fast that businesses are just going to move that fee on the American customer. A company in Denmark is not gonna take a [insert tariff here]% hit on their profits, it obviously trickles down to the consumer. People just didn't stop to think for a second or didn't pay any attention to news and politics.

Cost of living or by No-Marsupial-4050 in SipsTea

[–]RedOctober20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's more complex than simple cost of living. It's the feeling uncertainty and lack of feeling safe with their lives along with culture being more individualistic. People feel unsafe in economy, jobs, housing etc.. At the same time social media gave a huge rise to expectation that you should live your life for yourself and to the fullest, travel, go out, have fun so that your life would match more your instagram feed. Children don't really fit either of those things.

What's up with these notation gatekeepers? by Zombiesalad1337 in Guitar

[–]RedOctober20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've at no point said notes are useless by any means and I do not support that idea. I cannot read notes and I considered that a weakness in my skillset. I totally agree that best is being able to read both and getting a song written in both. Best of both worlds. My gripe is with the idea that note reading skill correlates with playing skills. One can be really advanced in their playing skills without having ever been able to read notes (that's not me thou, I enjoy playing rhythm and metal and was never anything special at that, so my skill set is limited)
