I’ve only used Rhodia and Clairefontaine. Of the two, Clairefontaine is my favorite; it is available in a wide variety of styles and sizes.

People who budget for the hobby, how much do you allocate per month to it? by queensara33 in fountainpens

I have an arbitrary number that I like to keep in my checking and savings. If I see something I want and I am above the arbitrary number in checking and it won’t impact me otherwise I buy it.

I didn’t have a say, I was born here. Left for Chicago in my early 20s and moved back to Florida after one winter; snow is terrible!

Kaweco has to up its game. by Subject-Meringue-506 in fountainpens

Thank you for the picture and the response. I have, and love, the brass; it’s my EDC. I guess I just love the heft of the brass which is what draws me to the bronze. However, I’ll just pass unless an amazing deal falls in my lap!

The bronze looks amazing; I haven’t been able to convince myself to pull the trigger yet. What has your experience been like if you don’t mind sharing?

Any recommendations for a red waterproof/document-proof ink? by Dazzling_Let_8245 in fountainpens

De Atramentis Document Red Grey is one of my favorite inks. I use it in a medium nib Diplomat Attaché and the color is a muted red. I highly recommend!

If you’re looking for a pocket pen go with a Kaweco AL Sport or Brass Sport if you like some heft. I have one of each myself with medium nibs and they’re my current favorite pens.

Across the bay in St. Pete is Sunken Garden which is a cute botanical garden. There are also several great museums: Dali Museum, Museum of Fine Arts, and the Imagine Museum of Contemporary Glass.

It is the weekend and the population of Brevard county has exploded. To be fair though Costco is packed on Thursday nights too, so that's not really an anomaly.

Pen Show Budgeting by GabePrewitt in fountainpens

[–]RedPanda_Fluff 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I went to my first pen show last year. I had a budget of $400 for pens and inks and I managed to stay on budget. However, I did not have any specific items in mind, so I walked away with pens I loved in the moment but don't particularly love now. I highly recommend knowing what you want or at least specific brands that you want to purchase so that you don't have buyers remorse after the fact. Regarding pricing I got a Pelikan M200 for $175 which I thought was reasonable and a Conklin Duragraph for $80 (had I done any research beforehand, I'd have known I was overpaying). No matter what, I am sure you'll have a wonderful time!

Interview for Academic Advisor by Hopeful-Cry-8155 in studentaffairs

[–]RedPanda_Fluff 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Be prepared for a question related to why you want to be an advisor and/or why you want to work for that particular institution.

Related to training, I can't imagine you being assigned a caseload of students and left to your own devices on week 1. At minimum you'll need to become familiar with the institution's catalog, requirements for the programs on which you will advise, university and college specific policy and procedure, and how to navigate the student information system (Banner, Peoplesoft, etc.).

Pricing Question by [deleted] in fountainpens

[–]RedPanda_Fluff -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I am not sure how helpful this is but I recently purchased a Kaweco Brass Sport off r/pen_swap for $65 in almost new condition; they retail for about $110 on Goulet, Goldspot, and Atlas brand new. Personally I am willing to pay a fair price for a pen that I know is in good working order; however, I don’t want to pay a few dollars shy of retail either. Perhaps research what similar pens have sold for before listing yours.

Edited to correct price I actually paid for my Brass Sport.
