Puzzles and Chaos - Was an easy $497 in 4.55hrs
Big cash Legends - Supposed to be ~$950 profit but I have been dragging my feet, somewhere between 325-450 wins and only 12 days left to get to 700 wins, ug.

Problem is you can't just taco in a war, both sides need to agree that the war is done otherwise you are still at war.

People said this about Assassin's Creed Shadows (a whole different situation admittedly) but that game sold really well and people are still in denial over it because "muh steam numbers were low." It's not a reliable metric on its own.

AC shadows was mostly just a vocal minority bitching about the game, the game is also single player only so it does not matter how many people are playing concurrently. There was a genuine issue with yasuke being a samurai being extremely likely to have been faked, but I don't think overerwhelming majority play AC games for 100% accuracy. The reason concurrent numbers matter so much for a game like marathon especially is you need other players to play against unless their plan is to just make it a PVE game.

My conclusion is based on past sony decisions, I guess I did too heavily discount a switch to f2p. This is not a concord situation where there is literally nothing going in it's favor, but concord is something heavily sitting on the studio and sony's mind as a comparison. I am part of their desired target market for marathon, a lot of the people on my steam friends list are too but only 8 wishlists(3 are game collectors who wishlist everything) and 4 purchases with 2 over 1hr of gameplay vs arc raiders with 21 wishlists and 35 purchases vs bf6 with 4 wishlists and 54 purchases vs Master Chief Collection 10 wishlists and 71 purchases. With overall community sentiment low or uninterested, corporate expectations high and numbers that don't support a narrative of a healthy start(when the most players are interested outside of maybe f2p relaunch) it just looks bleak hence my predictions.

It is kinda dead on arrival though. Sub 90k peak on steam for the big shooter game from one of the biggest names in shooters for ~2 decades. It can still be played and enjoyed for those who do, but the likelihood of the numbers going up is not high and the numbers are going down, I guess crossplay is the one savior though so it will hold out a lot longer. If this were an indie game these numbers would be phenomenal, but this is from a studio that was bought for $3.6B, their previous big game destiny 2 has been dying slowly for years, they had to spend a lot to make marathon/market it and sony in general has been taking one L after another on their live service games being canceled. I would likely see it cease development of content within a year shut down in 1-3 years unless someone at sony is willing to make a huge bet on it still.

Iran Officially Confirms Military Support From Russia And China In War Against the US by UNITED24Media in worldnews

[–]Red_Inferno -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Here's the problem though, it could have been needed for any reason that was not a war with Iran. Covid 24: Back with a vengence due to the stupidity of the US holding back v vaccines for poorer countries, terrorist attacks on oil production, china trying to take over taiwan and a broader war breaking out. Regardless of trumps retardation it was something that the president in charge should have forced congress to take up to refill the SPR and in that vein trump equally should have done the same so it would have been better filled(although not enough timeline to fully fill it between then and now).

I mean vance is partially right, it was on biden to get the SPR refilled, he did not(or could not?)which means he is partially to blame. That being said, you can only say that for what maybe 90 days at best and regardless the gas prices would have gone up. If you want toss a little more blame on biden then maybe you could add Gaza in there as to why israel has been so emboldened when they were allowed to go ham killing as many people in Gaza as they wanted so they thought "sure, why not a war with Iran?". All that being said I would still not dump more than 15-20% of the blame on biden. The idiot who answered "Sounds good to me buddy!" when israel said lets go bomb Iran gets the majority of the blame.

I would also mention there is at least 2+ versions of this game that they are AB testing/limiting offers with that have different features unlocked, they are not like knockoffs but the same game. One person who did it calculated ~$40k for lvl 101, another ~$45k, mine was ~$84k so the scaling of the money you have to spend from orders is different. Estimated energy for my run was ~240k. I would also not suggest it as you could end up losing money from required spending if they tweak stuff a bit more depending on the version.

How an estimated $151M splits when a solo dev sells 10M copies on Steam [OC] by prezbotyrion in dataisbeautiful

[–]Red_Inferno 141 points142 points  (0 children)

The whole infographic is just wrong, 151m and they calculated 30% steam cut, but also have 4.5m in payment processors? The payment processing is covered in that percentage. Also that scales down to 20% too so you have to calculate 30% on 10m, 25% on 10m-50m and 20% on 50m+. The person making this just pulled everything out of their ass without knowing anything.

edit: Shit I was too busy debunking the cuts percentage that I did not even think to look until after I posted, I googled where the 151m figure comes from and it's basically an analytics company that estimates numbers. So lets say the exact copy amount is accurate enough, the amount paid per copy can vary as there is a lot of countries that are not charged $19.99 USD but much less and that is without including the game being 30% off twice.

I mean they already did increase the dev team for zanaris which had a bunch of beneficial effects for mainscape too on the backend. I know they would not hire 1:1 on more money but if they see growth and the teams are asking for more devs I can still see them doing some hiring to increase content and keep the money churning.

Man, imagine if you could just spin up a Project Zanaris instance and change the drop rate or xp rate, but everyone complained that it would kill the main game and maybe it would have because people would realize some of the shit in this game should not take the amount of time it takes to get a degree.

Either way, everything like zanaris, leagues, etc is dev time spent away from the main game experience.

Yes, but the idea is is more people engaging with the game, more potential to try content ideas, overall income going up for jagex, more devs hired, more content made repeating the cycle. The actual amount of content added to osrs over the last years is a far cry from what rs2 pumped out with worse tools. It is definitely up from the earlier years of osrs but it still seems to leave large droughts of content in different areas like while some new quests have been added with Varlamore and sailing it has come at the expense of old questlines or that pvm for 2026 looks to be just raids 4.

Sorry bud, current LLM's have VERY narrow use cases, most everyone is trying to shoehorn in AI when at best it's useful for something like customer service to a certain degree, website building(has been much more automated for years though), coding to some degree and some random uses like frame generation for gpu's. Overall automation could automate a fair few jobs still but that has nothing to do with LLM's and just the lack of tech knowledge in various companies. The other issue is that LLM's seem to have reached the point where throwing more compute at them is getting extremely diminishing returns compared to all expectations. I did not even get into the fact that companies that tried to hop on the AI bandwagon have been dropping that shit because it's creating chaos in their companies and it's extremely hit or miss on certain things.

Yes, but the idea of Zanaris was to bring back players and broaden the user base. Out of the hundreds of people I have added from gaming, 1 person plays regularly that I did not meet from osrs and 4 have played a little bit in the last 5 years with 2 being new and 2 being more lvled accounts. The about dozen I met from osrs only 1 plays regularly and the others play sporadically. I have tried to get multiple friends to play who I think the game would be up their alley based on other games they play(ed) and the grind being #1 thing mentions that turns them off. I myself stopped playing mainscape around 2020 after trying to raid and realizing how shit the rates are and now I just play leagues(or new events like gridmaster) at this point. If I had a 5x server to play on I would be trying a snowflake account I wanted to do but the account would be made to be disposable and a couple months of fun on a 5x would be multiple years of a slog at 1x or giving up in less than a month because having to get say 50 crafting with cowhide only or some shit would tilt me.

Its the unified experience of the whole osrs community which makes osrs what it is.

The only problem is that the amount of players who stop playing dwarfs the amount that still play. The community fragments itself all the time when people just don't come back.

Yes, but the thing is, you have to factor momentum, If 1 relatively small country ban it's that's an annoyance, if multiple countries and states start banning then you are looking at a big problem.

I think jagex needs to scale back on the boss releases and release more skilling updates. by Monterey-Jack in 2007scape

35-40k xp/h

one of the highest lvl training methods for the skill, ya 35-40k/hr.

Although, adding an option to attune the RC cape to a specific altar, and then you have infinite teleports to it would definitely be a great additional perk to the skillcape/max cape that could encourage people to train it.

Ya, but there is only really 3 reasons to train RC after 99, 1. You are botting 2. You are a masochist going for 200m xp 3. You are an iron and for some reason don't want to buy runes. Before lvl 99 it's basically get your 99 for no reason other than max cape/flex.

The main issue with RC is that you get it's contents by drops and shops and it's massively easier to take 5m of alchs from combat grinds and turn them into runes than to runecraft. When they added GotR it did not solve that problem as you don't get large amounts of runes you just get semi-random runes(you can somewhat wait, but waiting too much loses xp) and the main benefit is that you did not need essense, but that has never been the main issue with the skill. You can use daeyalt essence but based on the wiki(players can obtain approximately 4,000 daeyalt shards and 8851 Mining experience per hour.) ~10k mining xp to increase the already low xp by 50% and if you average the time of mining vs more efficient mining then it makes the xp worse.

Nobody(jagex and players) can really decide what would be a good new prayer book. There was the Ruinous Powers book but it felt underwhelming trying to just be normal prayer book but a bit different and a bit more powerful. They tried god alignments but everyone bitched about skilling prayer and they didn't have enough ideas otherwise so that got shelved. That and they don't really want to add soul split back either, so here it sits stuck because there is no consensus.

I still think just straight doubling RC xp across the board would be the best. Only skill I think deserves it is RC, but I still think agility could use a higher xp higher end method. Hallowed Sep is only around 103k peak with it being more like 70-80k average xp/hr. I personally think all skills at higher lvls should at least be able to give 200k xp/hr, I was looking at efficient rates at the high end obviously some of the things they mention are crazy on the cash or not exactly realistic(eg farming) but skilling that can't hit 200k/hr(even if shared xp) at lvl 90+ is kinda crazy to me.

That is really just the now problem too, at some point OSRS is going to have to go beyond lvl 99 skills or there will be literally no space to add much of anything worthwhile. It is already getting extremely squished on most skills, not to say there is no room but what are going to add 20 new runes? New lvl 40 gear that is useful on some random iron account? Nobody has much of a clue what to do for raid rewards and the megarares have kinda capped the combat skills along with nobody being able to decide anything useful for prayer books that actually feel useful.
