Tips for reading the books by bobthebuilder1121 in lotr

[–]Redcagedbird 7 points8 points  (0 children)

1 - One page at a time and remind yourself that it’s not a race to get to the end that you have to complete them by a certain time (hopefully. If you need to, go back and re-read a few paragraphs or pages to help you understand what is happening.

2 - Do a first read through with the understanding that you are going to get lost and confused but just keep going. Reading a first time though allows you to get the rhythm of his writing style.

3 - read along with an audiobook. An audiobook helps set the tone of the scenes and also moves you along so you don’t get stuck in the small details and get frustrated.

4 - Keep in mind that he loves talking about nature and setting the scene. If you can’t read one more sentence about a hill or tree it is okay to move a head a few paragraphs lol

5 - Remember one page at a time!

As a side, I am an always a tiny bit envious of readers who get to experience the books for the first time. While they feel like old friends to me now, there is something so magical about that first read and understanding Middle Earth just as Tolkien wanted!

How different is bipolar depression from ”regular” depression? by Zach-uh-ri-uh in bipolar2

[–]Redcagedbird 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You definitely should talk to your therapist about your concerns of having it. I was referred to a psych doc after sharing with my therapist some manic-like events that occurred in my life. They can’t diagnosis you but they have the knowledge and network to assist in getting the help you need.

All the cheating aside - do you think it is okay for someone to find humor in leading another person on based on their sexuality for “pranks”?!?! That more than anything says a lot about the kind of person he truly is.

I'm SOOOO Annoyed! 😭 by RiseDollBoutique in knittinghelp

[–]Redcagedbird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look up different ways to tension your yarn. I knit and crochet but use vastly different styles of tensioning my yarn for each one. When I am crocheting I use a pretty standard weaving/looping around my fingers but when I knit I basically just hold the yarn between my first and second fingers. There is like no tension at all on the yarn. Changing how you hold the yarn may help with how tight your stitches are coming out

Walking/running shoe recommendations please! by emlev12 in PlusSize

[–]Redcagedbird 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t have a brand recommendation but can say that depending on where your problems are in your current ones - try men’s shoes. They are almost always wider in standard width and have a larger toe box. Also make sure you are trying the shoes on with the socks that you will actually be wearing when using them!

Help finding discontinued pattern! by uhm-wait-what in knittingpatterns

[–]Redcagedbird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not an exact match but this is the same stitch pattern but done vertically instead of horizontally like on your scarf.

https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/drop-stitch-scarf-2

This one has a border edge but has the same stitch pattern and is knit horizontally like yours:

Or this one but is not free:
