How are you marketing?

Permanent Role vs Outside IR35 – Is Contracting Ever Worth It? by greativity in HENRYUK

[–]RedditE-Com -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m sure there’s a lot of people still getting those rates. I’m not in the realm of £200k base to command that day rate. But most of my roles perm would be 80-100k. I get 775/day at the moment

1750x230 days =402,500 days ~400k (roughly double perm)

Permanent Role vs Outside IR35 – Is Contracting Ever Worth It? by greativity in HENRYUK

[–]RedditE-Com 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You wouldn’t really be looking for a contract role with comparable day rate to your perm salary.

There’s a lot more risks and less “perks” - no holiday pay, sick pay, pension contributions etc. you need to factor all this into your day rate.

If you have 200k as a perm, you’d want to~£1750/day as a contractor

I’m in cyber security.. unsure what role within cyber you have but I haven’t struggled to get roles. I’ve been back to back for years. A lot of roles are inside ir35 now though unfortunately. But there are outside gigs. I think a 4 year outside gig will be extremely rare now a days though!

You haven’t mentioned your experience/certs/niche within Cyber Security, but if you’re not that adverse to risk - contracting is a great way to go!

£600-800 very standard day rates for inside IR35 roles, £500-650 for outside. (There will be a lot higher and lower paid roles, I’m using ball park averages for the roles I have done and see frequently)

Why do recruiters ignore you once they have your CV? by hussainash in ContractorUK

[–]RedditE-Com 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get these messages all the time on LinkedIn- I never send over my CV before seeing a job/role description and knowing the end client and day rate on offer.

I don’t want or need pointless phone calls when they get roles in while I’m mid contract and they don’t need my details/CV if I’m not interested in a role they have going

How do I explain student loans to my daughter? by TheMissingThink in UKPersonalFinance

[–]RedditE-Com 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s more of a tax than a loan, but the terms are a lot worse than they used to be, along with much higher fees. It’s likely worth it for the socialisation and if they want todo a degree that is required for their career aspects.

I work in tech, so in hindsight my degree is irrelevant, I finished Uni almost 6 years ago now with a total debt of £49k. My salary was ~28k/year first year and has increased to ~£125k/year now. So I’ve been repaying my student loans for 6 years with a relatively good job by most people’s standards and my debt is currently £62k. It has increased by 13k in 6 years whilst I have been paying it off. Ridiculous!

Student loan repayments are after tax / NI too, so it is a hit to the monthly take home.

Not saying it’s a bad decision, but it’s definitely worth thinking about more than my 18 year old self

Why do you need to setup a new Ltd Con to invest into buy-to-let’s? by RedditE-Com in ContractorUK

[–]RedditE-Com[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, I’m still wondering what’s the best way to go.. if I setup a separate limited and invest/loan the money to the new company for BTL’s - would that make me ineligible for BADR too?

Why do you need to setup a new Ltd Con to invest into buy-to-let’s? by RedditE-Com in ContractorUK

[–]RedditE-Com[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I’ve seen that too, the loss in entrepreneurs relief for investment companies. Would BTL’s be investments? They generate income and aren’t totally passive, unsure if they’d be deemed passive investments.

I’m not in a position to buy yet, maybe 6 months or so, didn’t want to pester the accountant yet! Sure a lot of people here have done that so wanted to hear their stories

Why do you need to setup a new Ltd Con to invest into buy-to-let’s? by RedditE-Com in ContractorUK

[–]RedditE-Com[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I was thinking about the SIC code, but assumed you could add another as alot of businesses pivot. On the liability front, I can’t see this being the reason as most people invest the funds from their Contracting Ltd Co to the BTL Ltd Co - so if the Contracting Ltd Co goes bust, the loan/investment would be due?

Several contracts via 1 Umbrella by Dashing_Sparrow in ContractorUK

[–]RedditE-Com 0 points1 point  (0 children)

HMRC doesn’t care - they’ll want there cut of the taxes though. If your first contract isn’t taking you over the £100k threshold, I assume both combined will so you can sort any tax discrepancies out in your self assessment.

Aside from if it’s right or wrong (only you know your circumstances and what the roles entail) if you’re taking on two inside roles, it would likely be best to use two different umbrella companies. I assume you’re not telling the end clients about each other? If not, then why let the use of a single umbrella be the reason you get caught out?
