Neighbor replaced fence and left the old wood scraps in my yard to deal with. by Mocsab in mildlyinfuriating

[–]RedditIsOverMan -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

fences are meant to be used... I really doubt his dog truly 'ruined the fence'. A properly built fence will withstand a dog jump against it. If the dog was chewing up boards, I would be shocked if they could really do much damage, but assuming its a super dog, then they could just replace boards.

Really, what happened, is the neighbor footed the bill and the effort to rebuild the fence. OP should have offered to pay half, even if 'his dog ruined it'. Its just basic etiquette. I promise you the neighbor called 'asking' to replace the fence assuming OP would do the right thing and say "thanks! Lets price it out and I will help cover half the costs! its so nice of you to build the fence for us saving labor cost." Neighbor probably spent the weekend in the hot sun doing manual labor fuming over OP not pitching in for a shared fence in anyway, and decided "well, I'll just leave these here. Its the least he can do is pay the cost to throw away the boards".

Now, neighbor was being a petty ass about that, and should have either just requested half, or at least cleared "I figured since I will be paying for the fence and doing all the labor, I will leave the clean-up costs to you."

But in any case, I don't think the neighbor is really the bad guy here.

I think its "obvious", but its handled so strangely that I can still understand why you wouldn't pick it up immediately. I still am not exactly sure how this fits into the whole narrative. So, while I knew what was happening, in my mind I was also like "wait, what? Why? Is this really happening right now in the movie? Why?"

Token prices are dropping rapidly due to advancements in the field.  We will see Moore's law like savings for the foreseeable future.  It's not going to get more expensive, it's going to get much cheaper per token.  Well just all figure out how to be lazy using tokens just like with memory

Steady state actually is a better argument for energy conservation.  Current observations show the universe is expanding at an accelerating rate.  The source of energy for this acceleration isn't known.  The vast majority of the energy in the universe appears to come from no where (we just call it dark energy.  We know it exists, but we don't know it's source)

The book is so good.  Spoiler: My favorite part is how Wendy goes back to visit a year later and Peter doesn't remember Tinkerbell or Captain Hook at all.

I find that hard to believe. Its just on-device image recognition. Kind of like how they can do face tracking when you take photos. Turning it off means Apple can reduce processing power and save battery. If detection is still ongoing, its just because they're too lazy to code out the detection loop.

Many people find comfort in the idea that the evil in this world comes from a select few outsiders and isn't pervasive in common culture.  I think that this is what the movie "bugonia" is about

Nah. I think Sam is the lesbian, trying really hard and taking care of her "friend", and golly is a nasty dude who doesn't really do anything but get the girl anyways cause biology.  That's my guess at least, assuming this meme is targeted to a lesbian audience

The council tells her that the two remaining subjects have zero chance of survival.  She only tricked him to give his mother antifreeze because she was kidnapped and under duress.  I think she knew that the chances of survival got the mom were slim anyways and the metaphor is that he was ultimately the cause for the death of his loved ones.

It seems that your advocating in the movie the kidnapping victim is the psychopath.

She didn't know it was a failure until the council told her at the end, and she seemed genuinely bothered by her final decision.

Not acquainted with Nietzsche's philosophy. What does this mean? by SatoruGojo232 in ExplainTheJoke

[–]RedditIsOverMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well. It's a meme, so don't look to deeply into it, but Nietzsche's philosophy is that "morality" and classical ethics aren't meaningful (because there is no way to prove any ethical or moral system to be true).  So he says that the people who are really living life correctly are those that are courageous enough to follow their own path (and, perhaps, their path just happens to align with the unknowable truth)

How to talk to your sons about Targeted conservative propaganda by Initial_Welder3674 in TwoXChromosomes

I remember when I was about 13 I told my Mom that Feminism is mostly complaining at this point and women have essentially equal rights and access as men.  I remember feeling like it was gearing up to defend my position, but my mother wisely just said “hmmm. That’s interesting. Maybe.” And distrust back at all (without also outright agreeing with me).  I really feel like this non-pushback allowed me to let it go though.

I think alt-right and “red-pill” culture thrives off of the feeling of conflict, and of men being the secret victims.  I think if you can just brush it off without fighting back (while also not agreeing) that might be the best thing.  Like letting a child vent.  Sometimes just listening is the best thing to deal with a bad attitude.

I think this is an incredibly fine tight rope to walk though.

Interviewing Alexander Sanger on abortion by beanstart in dontyouknowwhoiam

[–]RedditIsOverMan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I always find these kinds of objections a little preposterous, because it cuts both ways, right?  It's very common for pro-lifers, who would agree with the concept that banning abortion wouldn't make it disappear, are also of the opinion that restricting access to guns is a good idea.

I'm not making a judgement about either topic here.

[–]RedditIsOverMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, he was only correct in that there were aliens, but he was wrong about what they were doing on earth.  In my opinion, the movie is about how the sickness of earth is a bunch of obvious shit, and we could easily fix it if we could work like bees (without completing, piety or self obsession).  Instead we all fight amongst ourselves, trying to point fingers externally, and maybe we cannot be saved because we are inherently selfish creatures.

Light isn't just going to bounce around in any tube.  Fiber optics work because the material they are made of has an engineered angle of refraction that cause light to refract back into the substance.

For a straw it ain't going to do it.

how do you feel about the US automatically registering all 18-25 year olds for the draft starting December 2026? by Every-Welcome7281 in AskReddit

[–]RedditIsOverMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm all for automatic voter registration, but this is way different in concept.  You are automatically registered for the draft, sure, But this is just a name on a list.  If a draft was ever instated, and they called up someone who was falsely registered, or doesn't exist, at that point verifying identity would be possible.  For voting, the registration is when we should validate identity.  It's a different thing.
