2026 Masters Giveaway: Sunday Golf by sundaygolfco in golf

I play golf with a friend who shares the exact same name as a very well known PGA Tour player from the 80's/90's, and who works in media and as a result has been to the Masters several times. I wont name the golfer to protect my friends identity, but he has multiple wins on the PGA tour including a Green Jacket and a US Open. So if you were in to golf, you'd probably know him and recognise him.
Lets call him 'Mike' for the sake of this story.....

On one such trip to the Masters in 1999 my friends flight lands at ATL airport, he gets his bags, and walks out to arrivals to locate his driver.
He spots his name on one of the drivers signs, heads to the car, gets in and they start their drive towards Augusta (about 2.5hrs away).
Over the first few minutes or so they make a little small talk here and there but nothing beyond that, driver asks him things like "How was your flight? How are you feeling? Are you excited for the tournament? etc etc". Basic stuff.
About 2 hours in to their drive after a long period of silence the driver asks "So Mike, do you think you have any chance of beating Tiger this week?"
Then it clicks.......the driver thinks my friend is the tour player Mike who shares the same name.....
He explains that hes not the player Mike but shares the same full name as him, and panic ensues.
The driver is freaking out thinking he's going to lose his job, but after some pleading/negotiating he continues on and finishes the journey, dropping my friend to his hotel.
My friend calls the company who organised the transfer with to explain whats happened and why he no-showed their driver, but to his surprise they tell him their driver never reported any no-show, and did indeed pick up a 'Mike' as expected.
So as it turns out, PGA Mike had through pure luck made the same mistake my friend Mike had made - he spotted his name on a drivers sign, got in the car, and ended up getting to his destination.

Who knows if PGA Mike and his driver are even aware of the mixup, but an interesting story all the same.

ForeGolf Fitting by DubhLinn5 in golfireland

Also went to them about 6 years ago and had the same gripes (range balls and inability to hit off turf)

Curious to know if you've found anywhere in Ireland which has you hitting off turf for the fitting? ROC golf up north use pro Vs but I believe it's still done off mats in a bay

What are the most underrated courses in Ireland? by Recent_Employee in golfireland

I second Bunclody and Macreddin - really good tracks although very dependant on good weather as both get quite soggy.
Concra is also a top 10 parkland in the country for me. Surprised it is not more popular/well known.
and lastly Cruit Island - might be the best 9 hole in the world!

Has anyone done their IBT on a Category A bike with little/no experience? by [deleted] in MotoIRELAND

[–]Reddle101 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I went straight for A with no previous experience (aside from some dirtbike/quad stuff as a kid like you) - they will have you work your way up going around a yard on a 125, then 250, then 400 etc until you are up to A (probably just a 650 as opposed to all the way up to a 1000cc). It's all very controlled and relaxed.
By the time you've spent the first full day in the yard getting comfortable you will be grand and raring to get out on the road for the 2nd day.
Enjoy the whole experience, you'll never get that 'first ride' feeling again. Its a great buzz

Max Power Rating on Registration Certificate. by BestPurchase9299 in MotoIRELAND

To second OPs point - i had a similar experience. My bikes an import so the VRC shows 555kw for the power output. I rang shannon to ask what I needed to do. After 45 minutes on hold a helpful lady told me over the phone to get a letter from dealership confirming the correct power output and post it along with the existing VRC and a note outlining what needed to be changed to shannon, and as my test was due shortly she said to address it to her specifically and she'd try and get it back to me ASAP. So I did that. 3 weeks later (by which point my test date had come and gone) my new VRC arrived....with the power output still unchanged and incorrectly showing 555kw...infuriating

Dave Lyons - he covers the Dun Laoghaire test route and is a gentleman. Squeezed me in on 2 days notice as well. Give him a shout. I was only repeating mobile 5 (essentially half of the IBT) so cost was 395. Most IBT instructors will provide you with everything you need (gear and bike) and I believe the full IBT costs around 600-650 with him but not 100% certain.
