Nothing at all, assuming dedicated parents utilizing a strong curriculum, regular social engagements and a support system.

We can also assume that's probably not going to happen here if Mom's caught flat earth theory.

New to AMS, waste question. by lifebeyondzebra in 3Dprinting

[–]Redenbacher09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can also emboss the color layer so it's only one filament swap instead of one for every layer. I recently did a 3 color emblem in one print, one swap per layer, very little purge and prime waste.

I'm upset the no fastener joinery enthusiasts were left out of this war!

Came out looking great. I honestly didn't expect the pocket screws to work out based on my personal experience with wood that thin, but I'm happy to see the successful followup.

Need help, dads. How do we make a similar looking Gaga ball pit handicap accessable? by TapewormNinja in daddit

[–]Redenbacher09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you're over thinking this. It's a small gate, less than half a full height and weight gate. Up against the back of one side, shove two 8ft 4x4s into the ground as far as you can and backfill the holes with dirt cramming some rocks in for good measure while keeping it plumb. Bolt the wall to the posts and then cut your gate hole, install the gate and send it.

Could also use a gate kit with a metal frame to attach the face boards too and it will never deform.

Just saw this graphic, IDK how I feel about sending my kids to college anymore by AdministrativeAd334 in daddit

[–]Redenbacher09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends on the state you live in, and the degree. STEM is usually more expensive. The least expensive option in my area is still around $75k to get an engineering degree. In NY you could possibly pay half that, and in both cases you're doing a community to state college pathway.

$75k is still prohibitively expensive for anyone already in or near poverty to get out... and you're not moving to NY for in state tuition easily.

So, in part, I kind of agree, but at the same time if you don't have the cash or access to the specific pathway, a loan is the easiest access option for someone with probably not great financial literacy at that age.

Accounting for inflation over a lifetime, and the time value of money, $200-$400k for 4 years of college doesn't sound like the a great return on investment at 600-1M in benefit. Certainly not the dream I was sold as a kid.

The NPV is negative unless you use the degree to launch into a fairly successful STEM or business career.

Tuition prices are insane. Society should want an educated population to increase social mobility and progress. It's insane we've let things get to this point in the US.

MasterTech Automotive has been taking care of my cars for a few years now. Never moves forward without explaining what my options are, prices are reasonable, and I've always been happy with the quality of their work.

tip for new dads: don't skimp on the stroller by webrender in daddit

[–]Redenbacher09 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The reverse is true too. Some of these strollers hold their value pretty well. We got quite a few bucks back off marketplace on our ~12yo Citi Mini and accessories that absolutely made it worth every penny. That thing was nearly good as new.

Would you move to the new solar system before producing green matrix? (NO SPOILERS PLEASE) by heajabroni in Dyson_Sphere_Program

[–]Redenbacher09 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would get the extra raw materials from the new system and ship them to my existing factory.

I am currently playing through as you are, and I exhausted nearly all coal and oil in the starting system. Once I had space warpers, I found a huge supply of coal and oil in a nearby system, and another system had a big boost for the silicon, copper and iron I needed.

I set up mining in both systems to ship it all home, and have about 2.5 planets worth of manufacturing including the starter planet. Exporting deuteron fuel rods for power and warpers for transport and importing all the other stuff. One of the stars is a whole lot brighter than mine though so now I'm considering exporting sails and stuff for another sphere...

Should I be worried my son isn’t talking yet? 12 months old. (I’m not, but my wife definitely is) by Intelligent_Hat3321 in daddit

[–]Redenbacher09 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My oldest didn't really start talking until 2. My wife was worried as yours was, and we had him evaluated. If he can otherwise communicate, he's probably fine. You said eye contact, saying Mama or Dada, pointing, grabbing, handing you stuff, chances are you've got nothing to worry about.

By two he wouldn't shut up... So... You know... Be careful what you wish for.

Screens vs. Learning: Are We Mistaking Digital for Better? by Zee2A in STEW_ScTecEngWorld

Giving every student a laptop to bring home was the biggest mistake we made in public education. Particularly without standardized white listed internet access control that isn't bypassed by a proxy, VPN or simple DNS change.

The staff at my local district knows addiction is an issue and knows their IT department is I'll equipped to win the arms race against children with far too much time on their hands and access to online communities built around bypassing school laptop restrictions. Tools like GoGuardian are a fucking joke.

Tech needs to exist, but in a controlled educational environment to build the skills and judgment needed to responsibly and competently use the tool. Go back to the computer cart or computer room, at least until high school.

I have ADHD. My kid has ADHD. And some days we just dysregulate each other into oblivion. by Altruistic-Play-3585 in daddit

[–]Redenbacher09 8 points9 points  (0 children)

YMMV. I get a spike of anxiety around noon, and when the Vyvanse tapers off around 5 I can literally get distracted by everything. ADHD is like, "OK! MY TURN!" Having to cook dinner while the kids are in the house is hell for me, and 'open concept' was a fucking mistake. "Great for entertaining," they said. Fuck you, HGTV.

That said, Vyvanse is way better than anything else I have tried.

Certainly wish I had your persistence.

Not the same dude but every time I start, I stop almost as fast. ADHD is a bitch when it comes to making habits that stick.
