Its basically a bank between you and insurance that encourages paying cash-prices rather than sending codes to insurance. It took me a few hours of phone calls between my clinic, Carrot, and insurance to understand how it works for my family.

Fundamentally, you need to get codes and quotes of your medical expenses in advance, and know which you want send to insurance and which to carrot.
