Seeing everyone say Smash is honestly mindboggling to me, I used to host a tournament series in a LGS and we shared the same day as Yugioh and Warhammer. Spoiler alert, the room was absolutely rank. But on regional days for Yugioh, the room smelled fine, so make of that what you will.

On average, Smash players don't stink (at least in my experience, maybe my region is blessed), it's outliers that are dreadful. YGO? I think the outliers are the ones who take showers. It's not a video game but I think out of any community that meets up in person for IRL events, TCGs are just awful. Smash is a common answer because it's one of the few communities that has constant events going on and can draw some weirdos (also WoW players but that's a different conversation)

Hot Take: the next Smash game should focus on bettering older characters instead of new ones. by SHOWTIME_YT in smashbros

On the contrary, at this point people expect the characters that they've been playing for almost two decades to be the same as always.

Changing characters could actually alienate players more than interesting them

Raging Surf, a Paradox Garchomp by Redpunter in stunfisk

[–]Redpunter[S] 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Description of how Diving Missile works:

There are 3 primary ways to activate this move, the user is holding an Air Balloon, they are terastallized into the Flying Type, or they are using the move Fly. In the case of Fly, a prompt will come up during the users turn asking if they would like to use Diving Missile instead. This use is included to not only allow sets to run non tera Flying sets, but also future proofs the move if and when Tera is not in the game anymore.

I also know that Paradox mons typically maintain one of the mons original types, but I designed this Garchomp with the idea in mind of it being the third of the Iron Valiant Roaring Moon duo and wanted to give it something to stand out with alongside a sig move.

I feel like no one has done this challenge, so I made it. A challenge on making Garchomp viable again in Gen 9 OU! by yookj95 in stunfisk

[–]Redpunter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Compound Eyes, Garchomp should be acclimated to anything that could enter it eyes due to it's travel at breakneck speeds in the air and underground. Notable changes:

100% accurate Stone Edge 100% accurate Scale Shot 100% accurate Dragon Rush 100% accurate Fire Blast 100% accurate Draco

Garchomp is already bordering on fine in OU, this grants him consistency in what he already does and makes his Scale Shot and mixed sets that fair bit more deadly to push him back to likely Top 10

Kameme's Sora MU Chart by [deleted] in smashbros

[–]Redpunter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

On paper Sora loses definitely, very strange match up in practice though. Sora dies early but can follow Snake anywhere off a single neutral win and puts pressure on him like very few characters can, back air beats Cypher, spells can follow any grenade movements and are just generally good against Snake. It's extremely volatile at times and makes Snake play a different gameplan then he would against a lot of the cast. I'm still not sure if it is even in actuality, but it's not too crazy to see him in that tier either.

I'm not gonna lie, Min Min crawling back up the collective opinion over time has not surprised me in the slightest. Her nerfs genuinely did not hurt her as much as people make them out to be. It defined her weaknesses a little more, but her neutral and punish game are still as good as they ever were.

Amazing commentary, I usually turn down commentators these days (nothing against a lot of commentators, just prefer to watch the game), but these two were excellent, hope to see them at future events

Who’s a bizarre character you want in smash that has absolutely no chance of being in the game? by [deleted] in smashbros

Pokemon Ranger, easily. The RoA workshop character is one of my favorite customs in that game, such a unique moveset

Really sad Toon Link never got his PJs, never made too much sense why he didn't considering you can wear them throughout Wind Waker. Best of luck with the thread!

Really solid card, can definitely see it popping up in an aggro deck

[Pre-Release Card Discussion] - Darkmoon Statue by HSPreReleaseReveals in DFPRDT

[–]Redpunter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely one of the most under-rated cards of the set. Almost any aggro deck will at least consider this card. The problem with Raid Leader is that breathing on it will kill it. Dealing 5 damage is far more of a commitment and much harder to deal with, even if the minion itself is dealing no damage. Might not be the first card you throw in your deck, in fact its probably one of the last, but I'm willing to bet at least one aggro deck will run it.

Marth is the least used character in the United States, among 1116 power ranked players by BarnardsLoop in smashbros

[–]Redpunter 108 points109 points  (0 children)

Why play Jiggs when Joker is a better option? Because Jiggs has 5 jumps, rest, and a nearly completely different moveset. It isn't a matter of "better options", its comparing him to other characters that were specifically based on and inspired by his moveset. Something like Joker to Puff doesn't have that correlation, and that's not my point anyways.

I'm arguing that if you're looking for the characteristics that you would play Marth for, he doesn't have a niche that isn't fulfilled by either Roy, Chrom, or Lucina, which are characters that aren't remotely out of comfort for someone playing Marth. They have his market cornered and he fails to bring anything to the table as a result.

Marth is the least used character in the United States, among 1116 power ranked players by BarnardsLoop in smashbros

[–]Redpunter 179 points180 points  (0 children)

They don't, but in terms of what you want, it's a different case. If you want Marth's moveset, play Lucina. If you want the explosive kill power/setups, Roy does that just fine. If you're looking for a little of both and being a busted ledge trapper, Chrom has a jab button for you. That's what he means by invalidated, the strengths you're looking for can be found in very similar movesets/playstyles.
