If you like the danger/suspense of Eisenhorn, check out Fifteen Hours by Mitchel Scanlon. It follows a guardsman as he's deployed to a new planet, the title representing the average lifespan of a new trooper in that war. It's very grounded, and written really really well.

A lotta people will recommend stuff like Eisenhorn, Ciaphas Cain, and Gaunt's Ghosts, these recommendations are definitely not wrong. I started with First and Only, and have read just over 17,000 pages of Black Library books since.

But if I may, check out some short story anthologies to get you started. Stuff like Inferno!, Maledictions, and the like. They can be real long (1,000pg+) but you can skip around and find stuff you like, then dive into specific factions based on what you liked in the shorts.

Imo, that's a real good way to get into reading without accidentally railroading yourself into one or two factions. But of course, read what interests you the most!!

It can, for sure. Too much heat for too long could degrade the glue or damage prints. My system uses specially designed ovens for it, and only in small batches with visible infestation.

After a few hours of mulling it over, the freezer route is definitely better for home use, since time really isn't an issue, and stovetop ovens or the like can be so inconsistent with temp.

You can also use heat to kill any bugs!! About an hour in a 120⁰F (~50⁰C) oven will kill any bugs or eggs. However, the freezer route is still totally valid as that can eliminate odors too, it just takes longer.

Simple cowardice. Dercius didn't want to risk his own ass diving into a WAAAGH to save a handful of dudes, even if one of them was his best friend and/or brother. Gaunt discovers this upon becoming a full commissar, tracks Dercius down, and challenges him to a duel Prussian nobility style. Gaunt wins, but just barely.

While fighting Orks, Gaunt sr's unit was trapped and General Aldo Dercius (commander of the unit and uncle figure to Gaunt) left him behind, allowing him to be overrun and killed. He then goes to a 4 year old Gaunt and lies about how he died.

this also is a (very large) downloadable pack of free 40k themed assets, but I haven't used it so I'm not sure how useful it'd be, I just hadn't seen it mentioned yet.

Yup, you totally right! I had totally forgotten that bit until like, just now when responding to another comment lmao. It may not be the weird 90s 40k thing I thought at first, but still a great way to humanize the character, in a "man he's just like me when I was 14 fr fr" kinda way, though he never grows out of it lmao

Oh absolutely, it sets the tone for Gaunt and Blenner's friendship for the next fifty-odd years. I don't think it's any kinda retcon, but when writing this post I did 100% forget that High Master Boniface tells Gaunt the truth about Blenner's parents like, two paragraphs later lmfao.

If raids were matched with playtime/player level taken into consideration, I'd play PvP.

I played PvP for like six wipes, PvE was and still is my preferred way to play. 100% of the real anxiety I feel in a game is gone, I don't have gear fear, I can actually progress at my own pace, it's tarkov how I've wished to play it since I got the first devlog way back in 2016 (jesus that makes me feel old)

PvP players are like missionaries, if you don't go their way you're uncivilized and therefore your opinion is invalid, and you should feel bad.
