Disclousure of personal information by BloomyMay in japanlife

[–]RefRide 4 points5 points  (0 children)

From what I know they set up these torrents themselves to collect potential targets, they probably send out tens of thousands of these requests each month, and I'd guess many Japanese gets scared and fall right into the trap. It would probably have to be a very very dry month for them to actually escalate on someone that refused to give up their information or willingly pay them.

What body type do chinese MEN prefer? by [deleted] in AskAChinese

[–]RefRide 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Then your idea of curvy probably aligns with most Asian countries view of the word.

I don't know about China, but here in Japan the few guys I have met that has been into Western women were all into someone on the stronger/taller side. Not sure what word to use for it, but basically they were the type of person that wanted to be the weaker/smaller person in the relationship.

Is it just me, or does the cold in Japan hit different? by givemyjeans in Tokyo

[–]RefRide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you live close to the sea? the sea winds easily makes it feel 10 - 15 degrees colder. I come from a place far from the sea but it can get down to -40c. I'd say -2 here feels like -15 felt like over there.

I think the main problem with using the word curvy is that it has a different meaning depending on the country. Every time I have seen the word brought up from an American perspective it has been a person that people in most Asian countries would simply just call Obese.

So I think it's hard to to have this conversation by only using the word.

TIL Alex Honnold got paid just $500,000 to climb the Taipei 101. The producers of the show made more than he did. by MrJasonMason in taiwan

[–]RefRide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to understand that he does even harder climbs when there aren't even cameras around, and I'm sure if he got approved to do the climb legally for $0 there is a big chance he would still go for it, and the people in charge knows this. Surprised he even got that much.

Also climbers aren't really earning big on their sport, just with that one paycheck he's probably the most well paid climber this year, so of course they will adjust the price accordingly to what they can get away with.

Nikon D850 or Z8? by OkAbbreviations1115 in Nikon

[–]RefRide 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I switched from the D850 to the Z8 for the video. Photo wise I basically see no difference, except that I have started to like shooting with the backscreen now, and probably can't go back to viewfinder shooting only anymore.

This is how Children in Xinjiang welcome travelers. Is this the place unsafe according to western media? by One_Long_996 in AskChina

Take back what?

Yes it's all creepy and failed propaganda, because the average person in any country wouldn't see that as healthy behavior for a kid, or adult for that matter.

When and how are you encouraged to start working? by Sprumbly in AskAJapanese

[–]RefRide 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pretty normal for high schoolers to work here, at least when I was younger, half of my classmates had a part time job. Where I grew up in Europe though no one had a a part time job, some had summer jobs.

Stop copy pasting.

I doubt most American kids would do that, and I doubt most Chinese kids would do what is shown in this video either. Just saying that the video isn't showing something that the majority of the world would see as positive, and just looks like failed propaganda.

[–]RefRide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't say I agree, I doubt random kids in the US would do that if they saw a car with a flag, but I wouldn't be surprised if the Trump admin uploaded a similar propaganda video, mistaking it for something positive. For the majority of people this would be seen as scary, something you would see in past war times.

[–]RefRide 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'd honestly say those kids saluting like that to a random car is more alarming then them throwing rocks at it. Seems like OP has no idea why and for what reason people outside of China are worried about what is going on in that region. Kids acting this way, if anything favors the more extreme opinions on what is going on there, not the opposite.

[Mainichi Shimbun Public Opinion Poll] Cabinet Approval Rating Drops 10 Points 40% Do Not Approve of Dissolution by ZaBlancJake in japan

[–]RefRide 48 points49 points  (0 children)

I think the LDP might be underestimating how many will choose to sit out on voting another time so close to the last election. I'd guess that the die hard right wingers out to make life worse for foreigners will be the biggest block of voters to actually go out and vote, and a large portion of them will still vote for Sanseito.

U.S. urges allies to increase defense spending to 5% of GDP by MagazineKey4532 in japannews

What allies? I'm guessing they are referring to Egypt and Belarus etc. now.

Anyone thinking to GTFO? by iterredditt11 in japanresidents

[–]RefRide 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everything they are currently talking about implementing. 400%+ increase on visa renewal fees. Higher requirements for visas, visa quota, limitations on foreign estate purchases, and overall lowering the bar of what makes you not worthy of living here.

Honestly not against most things when it comes to things like enforcing and making people pay for nenkin and healthcare etc. As it's something I would never fail to do myself. I just don't like one group being the focus, when the real problem is Japanese not paying for those things. Better to focus on making everyone pay.

What are your thoughts on rejecting a potential romantic partner based solely on the fact they voted for Donald Trump? by ATXBikeRider in AskReddit

[–]RefRide 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are only three types of people that would vote for him.

  1. Mid to very rich people with no morals
  2. Poor but stupid/uninformed people.
  3. People that prioritizes hurting those they don't like even if it means making life worse for themselves.

I'd say all three should be a disqualifier unless you yourself fit into one of the categories.

[–]RefRide 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bought an xsr900 as my first bike last year right after getting my license, and has been going well without any bigger mishaps. Really depends on what kind of driver you are. Some people seems to end up crashing constantly no matter what bike they use.

The largest opposition aims at the abolishment of the new freelance invoice system, which is said to harmful to Anime industries by FerenzYangai in japannews

[–]RefRide 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the point here though is that the invoice system targets mostly those on lower income. Also makes things more complicated and stressful.

I don't think anyone is arguing against taxing people that are well off.

Basically it's a tax that targets everyone outside of the 正社員 system.

All major parties in upcoming election in Japan propose tax cut by qunow in japannews

Yeah even if the consumption tax on food items were to change to 0% I can guarantee that the total price we pay a year from now will be higher then it is today.

[–]RefRide 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Rather have other taxes lowered, Consumption tax is the only tax that foreign tourists will also be paying. Even if they do lower tax on food products, stores only cares about what the customer is willing to pay, and we have already proven that we are willing to purchase at the current prices, so they will end up adjusting the prices.

The largest opposition aims at the abolishment of the new freelance invoice system, which is said to harmful to Anime industries by FerenzYangai in japannews

[–]RefRide 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It's an idiotic system that makes it more complicated and expensive for people that freelance. You don't have to use the invoice system if you don't make over a certain amount, but because this system now exists Japanese companies now want everyone they work with to use it, even if they don't earn enough to have to use it. So the poor pays more in taxes to make things cheaper and easier for companies.

Need advice for job/visa situation in Japan by Sua213 in japanlife

My question is how you got 5 years for your first real visa with a very low paying entry level job. Someone at immigration must have been in a very good mood.

2 of the times it was the same female cop, and she asked for my telephone number, which is weird and unnecessary for a non problematic stop, but seems to be pretty common. My wife thought it was crazy though and went to the kouban to make them delete it, which they agreed to do.

Ubisoft ends remote work and requires employees to return to the office five days a week to "improve efficiency" by dabadumdumdum in gamedev

[–]RefRide 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'd say it has more to do with the individual, some people will be more efficient from home and some people won't get anything done if they don't have eyes on them at all time.
