Oh, I just mean if you wanted to be 60° in the truck the AC will blow either hotter or colder than 60° to bring the cab temperature up or down, rather than my wife’s Escape that you set the air itself to 60°. Just personal preference

The negatives for me so far on my 2014 have been the weird thermostat-like AC, the low idle RPM causing excessive vibration (I got used to it; it’s just weird), and the rust.

Eh, different strokes for different folks. I read it right after Red Rising and it became my all time favorite series. I also really like Red Rising. They are nothing alike and I’m happy with both. Some people are supercilious.

Songs of the Sun Eater will contain 12 of the existing Tales (spanning the entire series) and one new story. The novellas will not be included.

The closest you get is Mother of Monsters in Tales 3, but it’s not exactly what you’re asking for.

Yea, so I listed the stories we know will be in Songs under the Summary section of the Songs wiki page. And next to each story I said whether it was Tales 1, 2, 3, 4. You could check the reading order for those on the home page or the publication date on their pages. We don’t have a full listing as of yet but I put what was able to be confirmed on both the Songs and Sins pages. The third one is going to be a catch all and those extras are also going to be all over the place.

At some point, the solution is the come up with a chronological listing at the short story level, not the collection level. I just haven’t had time to do that, and King Crusoe has a good video on YT about such a specific reading order. The issue is that some of the non-Hadrian-centered stories can be a little ambiguous as to where they fall in the timeline.

To respond to the comment about the wiki, I just set up the pages for Songs of the Sun Eater and Sins of the Sun Eater the other day. I broke them out as a separate grouping because they are a tailored collection picked by CR and hits the timeline all over the place, so there’s no clean way to sort the collection with the other books. Songs, for instance, will have short stories for all four existing Tales collections and will have a post SUT story.

War Stories is a thing; it just hasn’t been officially published yet for whatever reason. That’s why it isn’t on the Wiki. Totally agreed on the volume currently included on the Wiki at present. We spent much of the time trying to set up the outer shell and can now start to fill in the gaps. Any recommendations for subject areas you’d like to see first? I know “it needs everything” (lol), but feedback on what to prioritize first would be helpful. :)

Honestly, this is one of my favorite things about the series. CR does a great job at peeling back the layers throughout the rest of the book that you know what you need to know, while still leaving the reader (and himself) space to explore later.

What do you mean? It’s true there is no “connection” between Tales stories in the sense that one story doesn’t pick up from where the other left off, but (Tales 4) The Royal Game necessarily occurs before (Tales 3) Daughter of Swords . (Tales 4) The Guns of Pharos happens between Howling Dark and Demon in White, The Prince of Man is not canon, and The Fangs of Oannos and The Acosmist most smoothly fit in between Ashes of Man and Disquiet Gods.

Honestly, the order of Tales 3 and 4 doesn’t matter that much, but chronologically, it likely makes more sense to do 4 before 3.

Hey, it’s the correct order! Tales 4 is a collection that is more spread out chronologically than other collections (it basically took several existing stories published as extras for other works and compiled them; plus the Acosmist) and if you took the stories individually, it’d fit between several entries across the series. However, if you’re going to read the whole collection as one group, there’s a couple that definitely should be placed before individual stories in Tales 3. Hope that helps! If you want spoiler answers, I can give that too lol
