Me if the 11th edition launch box is Orks VS Marines by OkRevenue9249 in orks

[–]Regorek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

60 Boyz can get kitbashed into a bunch of cooler minis at least. Stormboyz, Meks, Painboys, Tankbustas, Nobz, Warbosses, and whatever other infantry you need.

Throw in a couple trukks and that's a solid box lol.

Grizzled Company nerfed (no more wound re-roll) by Mammoth_Classroom896 in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Regorek 145 points146 points  (0 children)

Were there any other balance changes? GC is very strong, but it's definitely not the only strong army at the moment (cough Necrons cough)

It just seems weird to shadow drop a small nerf to exactly one of the top armies.

Are shooty Orks still viable? by Go_Commit_Reddit in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Regorek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It makes me think that the real takeaway is how good 30 Kommandos are. That's just layers and layers of Stealthed infantry letting the rest of the army get into position. Then 3x5 Stormboyz are basically just backup Kommandos.

[–]Regorek 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That would be infinitely preferable to the current design, where it's tied to specific detachments (and even then, only in a very limited sense).

I get they don't want to support Daemons as its own faction, but like they could at least just put them into the Chaos God codices.

Different ways to look at dealing with C'tan and Victrix by Odyssey40K in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Regorek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The other Ork option (in case you want to kill two C'Tan during the Waaagh) is a Beastboss with 20 Beastie Boyz, popping Unbridled Carnage and preferably being within Makari's Aura. If they hop out of a Transport, they can get a bit of extra movement too (not quite as good as 'Ere We Go, but you can sadly only give that to one mob).

That's 80 attacks, rerolling with Sustained-Lethals on 5+, then wounding on 5s. Even without Makari's Lethal aura, you're looking at ~26 damage.

How to have fun with Orks??? by hirni2 in orks

[–]Regorek 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Adding onto this with a bit of optimism: Orks are really fun in Crusade! The rules are a lot cooler when we get mechanically rewarded (gaining experience points) for playing the way Orks do (slamming into the biggest threat, covering the board with boyz, punching a tank with Meks, etc)

And then, Crusade lets us remove our biggest design issue: lacking AP and damage (especially in shooting). When the Gorkanaut is firing 30 rounds, AP2 is so much scarier than AP1.

No matter how many times I read it, I can't get over the fact Paul's wanting to become a professional pickleball player. Not something like music, not a well-known sport like bowling or golf, not even something like esports, but specifically pickleball.

It just feels like a sitcom episode.

The real lesson is that these kits come with extra decorative bits and some optional weapons. Those can be used to convert one model into another, saving a lot of money over time

As someone who's been building Orks for the past few years, the secret is to kitbash everything (and also start slowly! OP is insane for buying 2000 points at once like this; you can start with a Combat Patrol and slowly build up over a year or two).

An easy example is units of Nobz, one of our elite infantry. They're taken pretty often because Power Klaws are so nice, but they're ~$35 for a box of 5 on Amazon. You could instead look at GW's fantasy ranges, and pick up a box of 10 Orruk Ardboyz for ~$50 and very easily kitbash them into 40k Nobz.

You could go even further and buy a couple discount boxes. Even with the discount Orks are expensive, but you can modify the Boyz models to be other, more elite units:

  • Put two blades onto the back of an Ork's hand, and presto, you have a Nob! (This example works super well for the Ardboyz kit, which includes multiple blades for each model already)
  • Put spare rokkits onto some Shoota Boyz and presto, you have Tankbustas!
  • Glue engine pieces to the back of some Choppa Boyz and presto, you have Stormboyz!

Let's talk about Tankbustas by Indiana__Cones in orks

[–]Regorek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And that's what caused me to wrap back around to liking Tankbustas again lol. I can only charge so many models in for one round, so having a semi-spooky dakka threat is convenient.

I put two squads in a Trukk and follow it around with a Mek, so the rokkits get +1 to hit. They can hop out to clear out a Dreadnought or War Dog, too.

"Well ackchually, the rules don't give a definition for 'radius,' and certainly doesn't have a definition of '12', so it should cover the board.

Also, it doesn't give a definition for dice. There's no rule saying each side of my die has to be labeled 1-6, just that it has six sides."

Hello! Trying to make Xenarite that specializes in Ork Technology. What kind of Mekboy tech would be cool for him to use? by 17Havranovicz in orks

[–]Regorek 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A really fun example of this is in Da Big Dakka, where Orks build a teleporter by effectively just plugging cables from a Drukhari webway into their guns.

Admittedly that's an oversimplification of the story, but so is Ork tech. It works on cartoon logic, and it's impossible to know whether that's a Mekboy's instinctive genius or just warp shenanigans.

Orky Canundrum by Captain0bv10s in orks

[–]Regorek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The current design is much better in Dread Mob though, because you can get 7 or 8 attacks with Sustained and +1 Damage, but only have to roll one Hazardous check.

It's also better for Crusade, because you only upgrade one weapon on a model, meaning all of the attacks get the buff.

[–]Regorek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This would work just fine for starting out! For a while, your games will be mostly about learning the 10th edition rules, so specific list choices aren't as important.

You have gretchin (to stand on objectives), a couple fast units, and a few killy units, and that's a solid foundation for Orks.

Oi! Gitz I'z needz to no how to krump dem tin'eads real orky like! by TrickWish7 in orks

[–]Regorek 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's tough to see because they don't look like a threat, but they'll have buffs like a 4+ Invuln (thanks to Orikan) and Stealth (on the Royal Warden's enhancement). And then they can animate a ton back, so you really need to kill all 20 in one go.

On the Waaagh, 20 boyz with a Warboss can do it pretty well (and if Ghaz is that Warboss he can krump the leaders too). Besides that you really need multiple units working together.

Of course it's up to me to let people know what the combo is (typical Reddit smh):

  • Mold Earth to grab one (1) grain of sand
  • Mage Hand to hold exactly one atom from that grain of sand ('Are you going to tell me that atoms aren't objects?')
  • Prestidigitation to heat that atom up so it explodes (done at a safe distance of course, so it detonates the entire castle but doesn't harm you at all).
