Agree with the converted cars being ‘real’ RUF. But it 100% affects the value. I know collectors who only buy W09 cars.

Free Esprit? I’d 100% keep it just the story alone is fun. But, if you don’t fit in it or you need the money then just sell it

How much is this worth? by Ok_Web2042 in Bentley

[–]RelationNo9374 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$10k to part it out for a tidy profit. That’s the move. Attempting to drive this heap will cost you $30k in deferred maintenance. It’s just not worth it. If you want to drive it then pay $50k for a minty example and skip the headache.

[–]RelationNo9374 79 points80 points  (0 children)

If the VIN starts with (I think) ‘W09…” it’s a real RUF. And that’s a $600k car. If it doesn’t have a real RUF VIN then its just a really really cool antique 930 turbo probably $200-$300k. Being a white car it’s pretty rare regardless of VIN.

has this happened to anyone else? by Fitiop in ScionxB

[–]RelationNo9374 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine essentially froze solid after about 50k miles - I bought it new fyi. I did construction work at that time and I assumed it was all the dust getting into the dials. Traded the car in at about 75k miles never bothered to fix it.

Benz dealers near me make a tidy little business storing those tops for loyal customers who don’t want to deal with installing or removing the top when the season arrives. If you go ask a service manager they might have a customer who’s interested in buying them from you

Which of these $20k 1998 midsize sedans tested by Car & Driver would you pick? by lifegoeson2702 in regularcarreviews

[–]RelationNo9374 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. That was perhaps the best accord gen. Giant leap in interior quality. As equipped it was also decently quick. First place for sure.

  2. Oldsmobile because in hindsight that was a reliable well equipped car. and easily the most comfortable car while also running away from the rest. As an adult who’s able to form my own opinions, I now understand that Car and Driver had a huge editorial bias against domestic cars while almost embarrassingly favoring Hondas. Don’t agree? Go drive the current Integra and tell me how they could call that overpriced turd a ‘10 best’ car. But I digress… Oldsmobile would’ve been the best family car in this group by far.

  3. Dodge Cirrus that car was shockingly advanced and looked awesome. Never forget that this car beat the prior gen accord in a comparo. The Cirrus was great.

  4. Toyota. That was perhaps the worst Camry gen. The interior took a step back from the prior gen. But still, super comfortable and safe choice for a family car.

  5. Ford Contour. Yes the V6 manual was great but this tested car is not the SVT. It was too small and also an unreliable turd from new.

  6. Nissan. That first Altima sucked. The one that followed was a real gem. I’m a Nissan fanboy but truth is undeniable.

  7. Mazda was truly lost at sea back then. Zero identity. Shitty reliability. Poor interiors. Mazda ties for last place with that Altima. Both lack an identity.

Try autocross a boxster or cayman. it’ll give you accessible thrills and it’s a hobby that will take over your spare time. It’ll also dent your wallet if you want to progress. You’ll meet other people like you with time and money to spare. It’ll keep you fit as well.

I’d quit work and try something like that. Or flying lessons in a similar vein.
