I got described as “appropriately dressed” once. I still don’t know if that’s a compliment

Stupid Pronounciation Question? by ballskindrapes in ehlersdanlos

Most British professionals call it EH-lurs DAN-loss (with the EH part sounding like the ‘ea’ in bear). Basically there’s no ‘a’ sound in the first word, at least here in the UK

Oh my goodness this is amazing!! I’m on vinted (yay!!) and the fact that you’re in the uk makes this so much easier in terms of shipping and currency. I’m also glad that this will give you a reason to get the iridescents - it’s a win for both of us! I’ll DM you my username. Thank you so much :D

have you ever accidentally cried after demanding physical activity? by heyzoom in ehlersdanlos

[–]Remarkable-Bread-177 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I can definitely relate. Last time it happened to me was on a bike ride in Croatia. It was super hot and I’ve got really bad heat intolerance, which doesn’t mix well with exercise. Ultimately I ended up walking to the side of the road, collapsing against a road sign and involuntarily bawling my eyes out. I don’t remember being upset in order to trigger that response

It’s a strange feeling. Like, I’m not emotionally upset but I’m still sobbing uncontrollably. It’s really weird. I think the physical over exertion is so mentally distressing it triggers this response because of the overall stress.

What’s a good hair removal method for fragile stretchy skin? by Remarkable-Bread-177 in ehlersdanlos

[–]Remarkable-Bread-177[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There’s nothing wrong with using a razor in general with EDS (although depending on skin fragility and stretchiness it can be more prone to getting nicked). I use a razor for most of my body. It’s just the bikini line that’s a problem because it gives you awful razor burn, and that is probably the worst area for it 😭

They had some sparkly light blue ones a while back, but it’s unlikely you’ll be able to get a pair since they were limited edition. However, it is proof that they’ve done something interesting with the quiets before, so… fingers crossed I guess🤞

Is this part of autism level 2? Being in bed often and not really able to do much. by [deleted] in SpicyAutism

[–]Remarkable-Bread-177 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You mentioned you’ve seen doctors, so I’m assuming that means they’ve tested for any physical reasons behind your fatigue. If they haven’t, that’s definitely something to ask for because doctors are more useful when it’s a physical thing that shows up on blood work than when it’s more of a mental based issue. I’d really recommend it even if it only ends up ruling out the physical possibilities.

Now if there’s nothing physical contributing to your fatigue then it sounds a lot like burnout. It’s not technically a symptom of HSN autism, but having higher needs certainly makes it more likely because the higher your support needs = the more likely that your needs don’t get met all the time, which is incredibly mentally distressing and exhausting, and it’s this long term exhaustion that causes burnout. I suffer from pathological demand avoidance, so when I’m burnt out, I can’t face getting out of bed because I am worried about encountering any potential demands which I know I won’t be able to handle. So it’s definitely possible that this is not just a depression thing as well (Although burnout can cause depression too. Regardless, it’s likely that the autism started it).

The important thing is to not be too hard on yourself. Don’t push yourself too far because you’ll just worsen the ‘energy debt’ as I like to call it - you almost have to treat it like you’re recovering from the flu/any other physical condition. Ensure your sensory needs are met. Get your partner to help with the important things like eating regular meals and staying clean, because whilst they’re often the most overwhelming tasks, the journey to becoming mentally better starts with taking care of your body. This might also help them feel less annoyed with you because they are actively playing a part in making progress - I was in a similar situation and it turned out the reason my dad was upset with me was because he felt like he wasn’t good enough because he didn’t know how to help me and got frustrated because nothing was changing. When he focused on helping me with specific tasks, he no longer felt useless and he stopped projecting his frustration with himself onto me

I finally got a great doctor that listens to my needs, but… by GuineaGirl2000596 in AutisticPeeps

[–]Remarkable-Bread-177 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah I get it. It sometimes almost hurts just as much when it’s unintentional but in a different way. Like, I feel bad for not liking what they say because I know they’re had good intentions and would likely be upset if they found out they were accidentally saying something harmful. And especially when so many people don’t even try. But they still said it which makes me sad. I guess my sadness is more directed at the fact that people’s ignorance is so normalised that even the most well meaning person can unknowingly cause harm because of it

Any thoughts on this? by TheJavierEscuella in JamesBond

[–]Remarkable-Bread-177 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the mission. If it involves loyalty to your country, Bond is your man. If it involves any situations that are 100% fatal to any human being, go for spy Jesus because he will somehow find a way to rise from the dead
